  2. hey guys thanks for all your advice lol. yea, i've had alcohol before, but never been drunk. which goes to show i am mature about alcohol, but that argument wouldn't go down well with my parents anyhow. anyways, next year i'll be able 2 do watever i want.. lying's so much easier on the phone.. hehe thanks again
  3. merci! thank you all so much for your suggestions! and yes, of course! how could i forget! the rugby world cup in france next year!!! im so there. thanks again
  4. Bonjour! I'm going on an exchange to Lorraine, France next year and I'm wondering how big drinking alcohol is? I'm turning 18 , but my parents (who are rather conservative/old fashioned/over protective) doesn't want me to drink there.  is drinking there such a big deal that my host family will be offended if i decline alcohol? i will probably ending up drinking some anyway (little do my parents know, but i've drank before ) but im just wondering how much drinking is a part of french culture.. merci
  5. bonjour! I'm going to France next year as an exchange student and I'm wondering what to give to my host family when I first arrive. I'm planning on giving them something New Zealand (such as a sheep rug, or a Maori carving?) They have 5 kids, so I'm planning to give a little present to each, based on their interest. (im corresponding with them now) I want to give a nice present to the parents as well..  What would the French appreciate? Any help would be appreciated! Merci
  6. Thanks for your replies I think I will take SES, it's probably fits me the best. My main goal is to be fluent in French and also to have fun and make friends. I can do that in either anyway, so might as well go for the SES. Merci!
  7. Bonjour! I'm going on an exchange next year to France. I've been asked to choose which filliere I will do. I'm going to be in the last half of premiere. Currently I take french, history, classical studies, english and economics. I've heard that litteraire is easier than SES and so the L students have more of a social life than the SES students. But there are too many students taking L at the school, and so my host mother has said that it's going to be harder for me. I don't really understand why it would be harder- does the education system work like that? Which do you think is the best for an exchange student? I pick up things quickly  and I want to challenge myself- but I also want to have fun.
  8. Bonjour! My future host family has invited me to go skiing with them in the Alpes in February next year. They told me it costs 550euros per person. They're going for 5 days, and the cost includes skiing passes, beds, meals, insurance, ski hires etc... This is probably a very stupid question, but I know nothing about skiing... Do you think they mean 550euros per day or for the whole 5 days? It seems so expensive if its per day, yet too cheap if its for the 5 days. I feel too embarrassed to ask my host family. they'll probably think i'm weird! Any answers would be appreciated!
