    The Queen

There was a programme about this many years ago whereby the governing party had difficulty in choosing a new PM so opted for an outsider who they thought would not cause any problems. I am, of course, referring to Jim Hacker :) Perhaps time for the Tories to give Ken Clarke a go.
  4. Just looked up the actual question asked in 2016: Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union? Remain a member of the European Union Leave the European Union Now there was no mention of any negotiations just LEAVE THE EU. So surely, Mrs May is not respecting the vote as she has stated. The decision was to leave and not to negotiate. So if she wants to be true to the referendum she should not have carried out any negotiating just triggered Article 50 and said 'we are off'. The question about what type of future relationship with the EU should be. Naturally, as can be seen, there are all sorts of options for a relationship with the EU that keeps the UK ties to the EU perhaps especially the backstop effectively, cutting NI adrift.
  5. Nomoss wrote: 'The petition has validity in that if enough people sign it, Parliament will consider it for debate.' Only needs 100,000 - currently has 3,238,126. Probably have to wait until after MV752
  6. Idun, on the basis that minds do not change, why are there General Elections in the UK every 5 years. On your basis once you have voted that is it. Gained knowledge cannot change your mind you just stick with it. There is now a great deal of information on leave or remain that was not available 3 years ago and the lies have been proven. If Leavers are so sure that the majority in the UK want to leave then I tohught they would welcome the opportunity to have their view reinforced...or are they worried leaving will not be a bed of roses?
  7. Interestingly, I looked at Leroy Merlin on Trustpilot and they have a similar score yet I have always found them OK. Interesting contrast - Castorama and B&Q which are both owned by Kingfisher. Ordered some tiles from B&Q online on 09/02/2019. On ordering it stated delivery would be 23/02/2019 and sure enough that was when they were delivered. Went to fit them yesterday and just too big for where they need to go. Phoned customer service. No problem we can collect them free of charge but cannot do that until 02/04/2019 and we will refund you now and it could take up to 5 days to be in your account. Did not really want them hanging about until April so said I would take them back to a B&Q branch. Loaded them in to the car took them to my local store (B&Q allow you to take items to any store even if they do not stock the item(s)) and the refund made. Now that is what I call good customer service and have never had a problem with B&Q. However, if you look at the Trustpilot rating: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.diy.com It is basically the same as Castorama. Perhaps it is only those unhappy who post. Perhaps I should post with my positive experience.
  8. Wow, they are some bad reviews. Clearly, Castorama must be rotten from top to bottom - you would think that the Board would be jumping up and down.
  9. The UK Chancellor has said that NI may get another chunk of money if the DUP votes in favour of Mays agreement. I find this totally immoral. But if that is the way that politicians think it is done then I think I will put my vote at elections on eBay and then vote for the highest bidder
  10. Quote 'If we leave the EU, maybe they will tear up the agreement allowing the access to our vehicle database.' Er, no - the DVLA charge for the information so a nice little earner for them.
  11. Just wondering if Mays favourite film is Groundhog Day? Perhaps she thinks that by day 197 she will get a result on her deal. At least one MP commented that if there was another referendum then it must contain truths and not the lies given out be both sides in the first. The media seems to fail to ask those who say 'just get out' what the future will hold and how it will be achieved? Will the population of the 27 countries of the EU be happy to pay the tariff on cars imported from the UK or will they choose a Renault / Fiat / VW etc as it will be relatively cheaper? Perhaps that nice Mr Trump will say 'the US will take all you can produce'. Take a look at where at least one of those hell bent on leaving have opened offices for their business so they can carry on trading internally within the EU.
  12. Yes, but doing that would merely give Nicola free rein. Now getting rid of N.I. AND Scotland is perhaps an even better idea :)
  13. The talk is now that if ShoeGirls latest non change is voted down there will be a General Election. Now on the basis that a second referendum is not permissible on the basis that to leave is the way people voted and they cannot change their minds one way or another now they have more facts. Will this concept apply if their is a GE - I have to vote the way I voted last time? If not, what is the difference?

    Moles

Dig small holes and put pepper down them then listen for where the sneezing is coming from and go get them :)
  15. Presumably Corbyn will tackle May over putting off a vote for 3 months so that she can get a better deal but no better deal has been got. Is she totally useless or, as she voted REMAIN, an attempt to......well, Remain?
  16. Perhaps it is like UK TV News - if it is not football then forget it. They will report on several football matched but no mention of, say, the England cricket team match. Seems football, tennis and F1 are the only sports deemed worthwhile reporting.
  17. Judith, normal function of a upvc door. The OP could look at screwfix.com - they deliver to France.
  18. At least some care homes try: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-leeds-47333271/bradford-care-home-turns-room-into-train-carriage
  19. ET my understanding was the 90 days as per the link with no mention of 30 days. Mmmm, wonder how much UK retirees who have a maison secondaire in France put in to the French economy each year? We certainly spend a large amount when we are in France.
  20. Sorry, absolutely no sympathy with this person or anyone 'helping him out'. He chose to drink and drive so he has brought any consequences on his own head. Sometimes watch the various fly on the wall police programmes in the UK. They can be quite disapproving of the drunk driver telling them about how they have to go and tell the relatives of the person that the drunk has just killed. Let's hope this irresponsible person is taken off of the roads to save others. Sorry if this sounds harsh but if you do not want to take the consequences don't drink and drive.
  21. Politicians probably have a competition to see who can be the most unpopular
  22. From what the EU is saying, and have for a number of months that 'there will be no renegotiating' presumably Theresa May will be publishing her recipe for Humble Pie
  23. So Britain is only 61% self-sufficient. But how much does the UK not use. From animals such things as tripe (ok may have a point here having been reacquainted with it recently in a restaurant in France), brains (apparently, I loved these when a kid), how many people will eat liver or kidneys etc. Funny shaped vegetables are rejected by most supermarkets so what happens to those - landfill? So perhaps by eating most if not all of the animal and not rejecting odd shaped vegetables how sufficient would Britain be if it eat what is devoured in, say, France?
  24. My understanding is that most of the phone lines are owned by Openreach, a BT company that the regulator has been pushing to be operated at arms-length from BT (possible conflicts of interest). If this is the case then line rental will be paid to the supplier you have contracted with. As to the number think most numbers are transferable (know that Virgin sometimes change the number). Some of the companies, such as Sky are starting to install their own equipment in exchanges and the equipment then becomes the sole responsibility of the installer. Think this depends on area. There is competition between companies so do go on the comparison sites to get the best deal.
  25. and there was me thinking it was a device giving access to Afield :)
