  1. Hi Dimples Would your builder hubby be interested in supplying a quote for us ? We have permission for a new exit door from our kitchen and we would also like a new internal door, I think you may need to pm me with a reply to comply with rules, abbo (Precy - 16km from la charite)
  2. nice to see the numbers rising - or not - depending on your view. I agree that a lot of the attraction to the area is that it is not like the dordogne a
  3. sorry maude, missed your reply with my timing - even so natural sounds are better than  any man made mowing machine - dogs and chickens anyday ps they have an even worse dog!!!
  4. I'll never be sorry I started this, its nearly as good as a 'towel'thread, seriously though, lawn mowing by an individual who sits on his xxx all week, gets shouted at by wify on saturday night and then does all his 'chores' on sunday cannot be compared to a farmer - french or english - making a living.
  5. thank you all for your trouble to reply, as you guessed I was very annoyed yesterday afternoon by my neighbour.  I should addd that this occured in england and he mowed between 4 and 7 continuously, and he is at home all week !! and it was nice here all week !! We are moving full time to france shortly and the thought of sundays spent in the same mood was not amusing, however our neighbours in france are quite far away, a
  6. please tell me it is illegal to mow your lawn with your large sit on noisy mower on a sunday afternoon in france
  7. so that makes 5 - i do seem to remember someone else assisting with transport issues earlier in the year. I am not trying to get an expat community going but it is nice to know who is around, especially as i am nosy and female !!!!!

  11. when I enter the Paris nord (where the eurostar lands) to paris gare de lyon (for the route to cosne - which would be near to us) I get the message about the journey being more than 3 changes, as our friends would have suitcases would ou advise a taxi to paris gare de lyon ? abbo

  13. Please can some one help.  We have bought a house near Sancerre and are looking at the various ways of getting there for some friends that would not like to do the 6 hour drive from Calais, but they do love train travel.   I have looked on the internet and think that they could do a fast train from Waterloo (they live in Linconshire so anywhere in London is fine to leave from), this train then goes to Epernay via Paris and I dont think they need to change - then my problem starts as my french is not upto searching the french sites for times and stations to take them from there to Bourges or Nevers. Could anyone suggest a good route ? Abbo

  16. When we travel to france as a couple we always stay in B&Bs if we can.  On the whole we find the rooms larger and more comfortable (they often have chairs as well as beds to sit on) than small or large hotels and are much better priced.  We also like the personal touch that you often find.  We always try to be inobtrusive and quiet, appreciating that we are in someones home and we would only ever ask about places to visit nearby and local restaurants.  If the owners expanded the conversation we always appreciate that . We often revisit our favourite places, always try stay at least 2 nights, never tread on bedspeads, never pinch towels and have never asked to use the washing machines. When we visit with friends we usually book Gites as they give us a communial sitting area, they are generally usually disappointing Just another view, a
