1. Gluestick, in English a place to buy alcohol is an off-licence.
2. Sadly the world has changed since then.  You used to be able to pop down to the Post Office in the morning get a British Visitors Passport and cross to France in the afternoon. I don't expect that to return either.

5. Advice please. I have a 50,000 litre, liner, swimming pool, installed in 2008.  To check the water balance I have progressed from the Acucheck trutest to the Scuba + and now the LaMotte Colour Q 7 plus.  Throughout Chlorine and Ph have been within normal parameters and the water has been clear with no signs of other problems.  Despite this I have, recently, become obsessed with Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness.  In May the Alkalinity reading was 77ppm I now have it up to 87ppm.  The Calcium Hardness readings are as follows date and ppm.: 16/05/2016 56 06/06/2016 21 09/06/2016 56 11/06/2016 53 12/06/2016 54 12/06/2016 74 13/06/2016 117 15/06/2016 92 18/06/2016 87 18/06/2016 107 20/06/2016 113 21/06/2016 81   Throughout this period I have added 12 Kg of TH+ obtained from three different local pool shops so I estimate that Calcium Hardness should have increased by up to 160 ppm.  I have checked our tap water 99 ppm and rainwater from the water but 30 ppm.   Any suggestions very gratefully received.
6. Having stalked this discussion from afar, it simply serves to reinforce my opinion that the manifold, issues involved are to complex for the average man in the street to make an informed decision.    Beyond that the long term implications are so significant and far reaching that a binding referendum is a totally unsuitable mechanism.
7. Our Fosse has now been inspected three times.  The first time the report said it complied.  The second report said it didn't and the third time (last May) it didn't.  The inspector told us that next time the Mayor might want us to do something about it.  Our next door neighbor claims that one neighbor has been fined if I remember correctly the fine was €130.  We are not rushing to remedy our non compliance!  Incidentally our Commune pay for the inspection!
8. I appreciate that you are enjoying this BaF.  But have pity, this really does, now, constitute a cruel sport!
9. Social benefits could be obtained, potentially, from your Country of Birth, your Country of Nationality, your Country of residence, or the Country to which you pay taxes.  In your opinion Idun, and others, you should look to your Country of residence and I might have some sympathy with that view but, in my case I was born in England, I remain English/British I pay my direct taxes in England, but, I live in France.  I would not feel comfortable taking benefits from France without paying direct taxes.  In my case it is the British Government who, as you quaintly put it, will not sever the umbilical cord.
10.
I am against any non residents getting it.
Just to satisfy my curiosity why are you against non residents getting it?
11. Sara, may I ask two questions?  Is the registration with the DVLA to your French address, and do you pay the road fund?
12. We have recently cancelled our Sky subscription and opted for a Humax HD Freesat box.  In addition we have a a Canal + subscription with the Cube (a Sky+ equivalent).  This gives us all the televised premiership games including a Saturday 15:00 kick off, commentry is in French.  We also get a lot of films with the option of original soundtracks and some British TV re-runs Spooks for eg.
13. I have the Cube on Canal +.  I pay a total of €51 per month, direct to Canal +, including €6 for the Cube rental.  It has twin feed as Sky plus although I only use one feed.  The hard drive is internal.  Theoretically it offers "Series Link" although I've only known this work once.  It also offers remote Internet recording via your "Espace Client" and this is slightly more reliable.  I have just used it to Set up MI5 (Spooks) for tonight.  You can set the default language for programs so that, for example, you can record VM films in American with sub-titles in French which can be fun.  It offers High Definition where available so has HDMI or Scart connectors.  I find the Electronic Program Guide straightforward.  Overall I am more pleased with it than I originally anticipated, but it does make Sky seem cheap!
14. This may not help either but I collected my parents of the Stanstead Bergerac flight that evening which was 90 minutes late.  So I know it got here, but I cannot confirm that it returned.
15. in Dunes there is a plaque to about 20 people with ages ranging from 17 to their 50s who were strung up with piano wire Whereabouts in Dunes?  My father is coming over next week and he is fascinated by the all things resistance.
16. I have an Abriblue, open classic, powered pool security cover.  It is broken.  The installers are attempting to establish why it will not work apparently it's either the transformer or the motor.  The point being, however, that they have left it open, which is fine for swimming but means I daren't leave the house unattended for fear of a passing toddler falling in.  I believe that it is possible to open and close the cover manually but I have no instruction manual.  I e-mailed the supplier who reffered  me to the installer.  The installer's staff are helpful but utterly clueless.  Does anyone out there have such a cover and know the secret of manual operation, please? Any advice gratefully received.
17. I don't know where "rustic" is based but I believe that in Switzerland the Driver and all passangers must have a yellow "vest".
18. I am on my third Sky box plus since arriving in France.  The two that relatives sent out here for me I "matched" the card and box by ringing Sky on my English PAYG mobile without any problem, apart from the cost of the call whilst hanging on.  A local French installer put in the dish for me and I have a much stronger signal than I did in England.  I had already satisfied the 12 months requirement prior to leaving England.
19. Poolguy, Could you PM me with details of the Scuba + inc delivery and necessary supplies? Ta
20. Maggie, I think that, if you examine the LeClerc details, you will find there is no minimum contract period.
21. Difficult to comment without being subjective. I think its a pleasant enough small town on the confluence of the rivers Garonne and Lot. Its handy for the A 62 so Bordeaux, Toulouse and Bergerac airports are all within 1.5 hours. It has a railway station on the Bordeaux Toulouse main line and a smallish supermarket. Agen has good shops and Tonniens has a largish LeClerc. Buzet-sur-Baise is on the Canal du Midi and is a good boating base as well as being the centre of the Buzet wine area. Nicole has a good view point and there are several tourist towns such as Clairac with its Abbey. All main administrative functions are available at Agen with back up at Marmande and Hotel des Impots at Tonniens. Any specific questions?
22. I have a "One for all" URC-7556 which was I think around 30 Euros from LeClerc. It operates my Sky + box, television sound system, LG hard drive recorder and Blue-ray DVD. Mostly you input 4 digit codes but it will also learn functions by mating it with an original remote. It also accepts macros so one button will, for example, turn on the sky box, tele and sound system. I do sometimes have to dig out the original remotes for some things and I occasionally forget which function I've coded to which key but on the whole the coffee table is much clearer!
