  5. right the meter is in the "attached" barn and i was intending to put the manifold just after the main stop valve each outlet on the manifold will then have a seperate stop valve and hopefully each lie will be resonably unique to an appliance. so am i allowed to use plastic pipe for the ballon  de chaud can i get fittings and reducers depending on he sizes i want i presume that is a yes. in the bathroom and kitchen if i have for instance a section of plastic pipe with brass fittings  then a section of plastic followed by a brass manifold then more plastic pipe ending in a stainless steel flexible does each section of metal fittings nedded to be bonded together i have run an earth to these rooms from the earth on the tableau electrique this is just an earth line and is individual of any current lines is this ok? and why would you use 18mm for the ballonde chaud and the shower/bath and not 12mm? with the water presure will these appliance be starved of water? hope you can answer this aswell merci beacoup pour le temp que vous m'avez accorde
  6. ive just read with interest the plumbing section a wealth of information thanks, so ive leant that hot water pipes can expand ive also learnt that the standard pipe from the counter is 18mm i was discussing plumbing today so ive got a couple of questions.  from water meter here ive got what looks like 12mm copper feeding the barn which goes into a larger bore plastic pipe probably 20-25mm wellit all needs redoing so i want to put a manifold in near the meer and then run lines where they are need from this. i see often rolls of plastic water pipe in the bricos which i would think is either 10 or 12mm but not often the 18mm pipe, so is this 10-12mm pipe ok to be used on long runs, aslong as i take into account flexing for the hot water. i noticed someone on the section above was having some problems using 12mm as taps were running dry when other taps were turned on, if i try and keep each room/appliance on a seperate line from the manifold will this eliminate this. bearing in mind as this is a private house i am not likely to have all the taps and appliances running at the same time. lastly using plastic pipes how does this work with bonding to earth on the fittings? does each fitting need to bonded seperately? how does it work? anyway if anyone can offer any advise it is much appreciated take care yall amuse toi bien
  7. A few years ago i had a car insured by a french insurance company, at this time the insurance company asked me for the address of my english insurance so that my no claims bonus could be transferred. This was provided by my english insurance company and no more was said i paid my third party insurance and thought no more about it. I recently got an estimate for fully comp insurance on a newer car, i found the quote quite high and questioned my french insurance company i was told that they had not transferred my no claims bonus. i had seen the letter from my english insurance with my last english insurance policy on the desk a few days before so why hadnt they transferred the bonus? aah my english insurance had sent my paperwork through with 5 years no claimshowever my french insurance wanted this represented as a percentage value, they had never informed me that the transfer had not gone ahead at the initial time. so anyway my english insurance has now sent a letter with the percentage value indicated and i shall see the french insurance company next week to make surethey transfer the bonus. So a word of warning if transferring your no claims: write the letter to your english insurance company yourself make surethey give you a percentage value for your no claims bonus and then make sure your french insurance does indeed put your existing no claims on your new insurance. this took three discussions at the french insurance company for me to drag the reason why my insurance estimate was so high out of the insurance company. this was not a language problem issue but more a situation of not giving me enough information in order to for me to continue to pay over the odds insurance. some people in france do insist in trying to take the piss out of the english you can normally spot them in a suit and an office
  8. RMI question ive just finished working and become unemployed i was travailleur independant all my bills are paid and ive registered with assedic i am noteligible for chomage and as my girlfriend works earning 1000 per month on salaire i have been told iam not eligeable for RMI. iown my house outright and am reasonably financially stable for the time beeing although i have no form of income. all the running bills for the house are in my name. i am eligeable for training with afpa but not RMI has anyone got any thoughts yes as my girlfriend says there are many worse off than us but with the desire to eradicate RMI i feel that as i have paid ursaff and been taxed to the hilt for the last three years this is somewhat unjust were i not financially stable our situation would be very differnet my girlfriends salarie would not be enough to live on luckily i have a little money put aside so what is the RMI platform and how much savings are you allowed to have i have been told that the refusal is because my girlfriend works by anpe and the caf whereas my french friends tell me RMI should be calculated individually and should have nothing to do with the caf ormy girlfriends salarie
  9. branston pickle and mango chutney...... sorry couldnt resist got a friend that swears by english wheelbarrows (apparantly the balance is better) and drain covers dont get back that often so i get french but it pays to shop about

  12. havent done a  wet room but i was in "point p" recently and they had an orange coloured waterproof material that can be used on the floor and walls in showers or bahrooms to seal the walls and floors away from risk of water not sure how much it costs or what its called but as it is a newish product ive a feeling it is reasonably expensive if im there in the next couple of weeks ill check it out
  13. probably best to check that the towel rail is nf marked did here a rumour that its ok to have ce marked stuff now but would likethis verified your electricbook in france probably has the diagram of various zones in it that tell youwhat youcan and cant do your plug above the sink may not be within the regs so spend some time with your books and working out what is permissable dont forget to bring your books back with you next time. it may be easierto get yourtowel rail in france as then you can be sure it will conform.
  14. Just a question concerning wills. i own a property in france, and have no debts or mortgage, my parents are in their eighties and should i die tomorrow would find dealing with my property a great strain. i have no children. i am not married although i have a long term french girlfriend however we are not paxed either. am i able to write a will that will share my assets between my parents if they are still alive my sister my girlfriend and possibly one or two very close personal friends. in the event of my death i would ideally like my property to be used and shared by those named in the will. which leads onto inheritance tax as i would not wish to leave those around me with a large bill can someone expalin how inheritance works and how this would be affected in this situation. hopefully i will behere for many yars to come and i will have time to sort this situation to the benefit of all concerned, many thanks
  15. yes squashed cats is a problem here too. the last time i went away for two days, i returned to find a stiff cat on the drive, although a quiet country road cars often pass at over 100kmh, and friday and saturday, well, wine and calvados stocked drivers are not rare. to combat this ive considered installing a revolving blue light putting rocks in the road and maybe discussing with the marie putting a speed camera in the garden. we shall see, as i need to see the marie soon. good job we have no children
  16. well we' have lost another cat basil ourprobably 6 to 8 month old cat has not come home for three or four days. we inherited a wild cat that gives birth each year and each year none of the cats survive. some are run over some are naturally weak and die and we presume some are shot or poisoned by the farm near us our neighbour tells us the farmer is a gros con and lays poison and happily shoots cats. when we lost our last cat who was a house pet we had for two years we confronted the farmer and asked if hehad seen our cat. he responded to my girlfriend who is french that he knew nothing but his attitude was one of contempt as she was with langlais le bar maybe i am placing blame where it is not deservered but after loosing four cats in six months i am starting to loose my temper i have no proof and only a maybe misplaced suspicion i have considered seeing the maire and gendarmaerie but cannot see that it will be taken seriously i have consideredfronting the farmer again and considered a nighttime trip with a can of petrol all these thoughts will probably cause me more trouble. any ideas where do i go from here i dearly love my adopted pets and each time we become friends they are taken from me. i also lost a dog that was old but the vet did pose the question of whether he had been poisoned at the time i was too upset to consider this as my dog was my 14 yearold best friend now i start to wonder can i approach anyone to find out if the farmer is laying poison on his land i dont particularly want a war with the farmer but if he isdoing this i am willing to go up against him this will put me in a precarious position against a farmerwho ishappy to walk round with his gun and shoot anything that moves in an area where hunting is considered a normal occupation. i would appreciate some advise before i get myself into trouble
  17. it is well worth checking out www.afpa.fr this organsation deals with training there is an english section and from what i can gather they can help with recognising english levels of qualification so that equivalent french qualifications can be acheived
  18. learnt today that at worst the authoritiescould cut your water supply if they decided that you were unable or unwilling to comply with regulations
  19. you will have to pay your coitisations once you are registererd regardless of whether you are working and earning or not so if you do not work for two or three months you will still have to find the money to paye your urssaf maladie and retrait as if you had been working
  20. listen to the vet there cant be that many people capable of doing this speak to both the people preferbly face to face and go with your instincts the vet wouldnt recommend someone who is going to harm your horses maybe go and speak to someone else with horses in your area it may gain you a friend and improve on your french. when in rome and all that
  21. in general you will pay about 35 euros per month some providers will pay your france telecom rental and give you free phone calls both to france and the uk www.quechoisir.org will give you an idea of consumer reactions to the various providers
  22. i will probably be in a similar situation when my fosse is inspected i have just found this site i think through this forum and will be contacting this orginaisation to see if they can be of help www.anah.fr it will obviously depend if you a permant resident in france and your statue whether you are working or retired. we have some elderly french friends who were exempt because of their age and situation if you cant pay for the work and cant get a loan because you are out of work then the authorities will have to be flexible of your situation as you say they cant stop you pooing
  23. ive just stopped a business i was on statue travailler independant on tva real simplifier. aslong as all your bills are up to date: urssaf malady and retrait you deregister with the chambre de commerce  who will inform urssaf maladie and retrait  you will need to inform the impots of your position and pay all your taxes. if not tva then this will be on your declaration of revenue due in may if you are paid up for your final trimestre you may be eligible for remboursement and will need to contact ursaff and give them details of your accounts and social charges you will need to submit your final bilan dated from the end of your last tax year upto the date of closure this withthis bilan you will also need to submit a stockcheck i did this without an accountant and dealt with chambre de commerce urssaf and maladie myself, i found all parties helpfull and although it has taken sometime for all parties to acknowledge my change in circumstance and send me the various paperwork that needed to be filed out and returned it has been less stressful than having the business. luckily my girlfriend is french and was able to deal with some of the phone calls. however i used the excuse of beeing english and not understanding very well in order to get the impot urssaf and maladie to help with filling in their required forms and info requests. aaaah i notice you haveonly been registered for 9 months so you will be liable for taxes on your earnings you may find also that you will be liable to pay your social charges that you should have so far been exempt from paying if this is what you want to do go and see the various bodies and explain dont be intimidated by it and you should find them willing to help
  24. ive got an unused netgear dg834 GT router this is the turbo model and was bought to combat the same problem ive not used it as we ended up with a router provided by the service provider it is boxed with all paper work (french) and surplus to requirements if this is of interest to you pm me
