  1. Thanks - I'll have a look at LD lines - but I thought the drive was longer than 1 hr - more like 2 hrs which isn't so great if I want to go as a foot passenger and get collected ... I'll check!   (Poole isn't great for me being in London - but thanks for the thought!)   Normandie
  2. Now that there's no BF - Portsmouth to Cherbourg crossing during the winter (except one xmas trip), and the Southampton to Cherbourg flights have stopped am I missing any tricks to get to Cherbourg? I know I can get to Caen but the times aren't that great. I've even checked out trains to St Lo from London but it's not quick - morevover it's £175 each way!   I guess this just a seasonal nuisance - but just thought I'd check - no cheap flights to Cherbourg for example?   Enjoy the weekend!     Normandie
  3. Thanks for those replies - just what I needed   Have a great weekend!       Normandie
  4. [I]Just thought I'd ask whether anyone has found a really good colour for their doors on old farm buildings converted to houses?  They have to be painted as a couple are beyond repair and have therefore been replaced but will need a paint finish. I imagine a grey green would look good against the stone walls and lime mortar but just thought I'd ask before I start the search !!! Is there a 'traditional' colour for external paint in La Manche/Normandy apart from white, or are estate/heritage colours more of a National Trust/English thing? Thanks in advance for any advice/photos?! Bonne journee Normandie

    Smoking

I wish you lots of luck - you can definitely do it ... I had hypnosis (once) and it worked for me - all it does is help you with your desire to be healthy and free from addiction - like you were before you ever took it up. It is also good to focus on the benefits; £, health, fitness, freedom from addiction, younger looking! etc etc. Put the money in a separate jar each week and you'll soon wonder what to do with all the extra cash - spend it on pampering or luxuries instead! It may help to take extra B vitamins, C vitamins, and drink lots of water, and keep cleaning your teeth to remind you that fresh breath (and whiter teeth) is one of the benefits! In fact there isn't one good reason to smoke - as you can see I am a reformed smoker! I found it helpful to avoid triggers that I associated with smoking such as having a cup of coffee/bars but that will soon pass once you are settled into your new habits.  In fact I didn't sit down very much at first as I felt I needed to keep busy doing stuff  - even if it was cleaning the kitchen cupboards!  Not something I feel the need to do anymore ... I had a relapse when I thought that it would be ok to smoke on holiday - and then I read the Alan Carr book and that set me straight again.  Reading that book is a very good place to start - not sure if doctors in France offer smoking cessation classes?  Many of my friends and family no longer smoke - in fact smoking seems very archaic! Most of all - don't think of it as giving anything up - you have just decided to stop! Bonne chance! [:)]
  6. That's a very comprehensive site and online catalogue - just what I needed. Have ordered the catalogue and Caen is not too far to travel when next in France. It is strange that the exact tap is 245,18 euros!!!  Sounds too good to be true! This isn't a trade only site is it?! Many thanks once again for everyone's help.   N
  7. Thanks for all your help ... It's easy to find what I need on English websites but not so easy on French ... Finally, I've found an example of what I need but at 944.84 e it's not my kind of price range! http://www.espace-aubade.fr/R-39-59-3-robinet-pour-douche-mitigeur-thermostatique.html (Sorry - not sure how to import the pretty picture). I tried BAO when I was in France but couldn't see any taps 'encastre' at all. If anyone knows/comes across the same thing but a cheaper brand please let me know ... Many thanks   Normandie
  8. Just spent 10 days in France ... Imagine my surprise to find that my Dad (living in France) bought me a present at a recent brocante - un chariot! Just need a horse now! It may well be a fun hobby for the future, if I get to live in France one day. I believe there may be a club near us as we've seen them en masse at a nearby restaurant - Coutances/St Lo. Has anyone already got any experience of driving horses?  I can ride but have never thought of 'driving'. Also 15 or so horses rode past our place on Saturday so I imagine some stables do hack out - pls let me know if you know of any stables that accommodate novices who'd like to hack out in my area - Coutances/St Lo - so I can get back in the saddle, as well as friends who'd like to try. Would be interested to hear from anyone  ... Many thanks [:D]   Normandie
  9. That's exactly it! Thanks for the prompt reply!
  10. Hello all Quick question: Has anyone found the necessary shower rose and taps (with temperature setting) for a wet room so that the plumbing and connecting pipes are completely hidden? If so, where?!  Over the internet? Had a look in a few places but in each case the piping would show which is not the look I need! Many thanks in advance ...   Normandie (50)
  11. Le soir ou les loups brulerent de diable  [6] August 2006 will see the next open-air theatrical production to be staged by the association 'Spectacles du Canton de Cerisy-la-Salle'. This is to be a dramatised history of the canton in a series of 21 tableaux.  It will be written, and performed entirely be local people with original music from local choirs and musicians.  The lighting, sound recording and fireworks are organised by professionals. There should be an audience of 6,000, and over 400 volunteers to stage it. So if you want to help them stage it: backstage, admin, programme sellers, car park attendants, etc etc then you can email:  [email protected] British and French spectators and volunteers required for cultural exchange and integration! If you want to see it - it's at La Fauveliere, Savigny (50) on 11/12/13/14 August See you there!
  12. I've looked over the old posts but can't see an answer to my query ... Does a person over 65 need to pay habitation tax, and is this affected if the property is an SCI? Also, I've been told that the TV licence cost is included in the habitation tax - if you didn't need to pay the tax how much would the licence be separately? Thanks for any replies in advance ... [:)]
  13.   I've just had a reply from NHS 2006 and the show is on from 10 - 15 August 2006. Coincides with my trip! [:P]
  14. [:D] Just booked my ferry! so now I can see what's happening in August! Does anyone know what dates the NHS is this year?  Can't see details for this year yet?!  Is it worth seeing?  Anyone know what the event in Savigny is like Friday 11 August, or the Montpinchon fair/cycle race early August? Is there a compehensive list of these events on the West France newspaper perhaps? There's so much to see!!! Thanks in advance for any info straight from the horse's mouth!
