  1. Nick, I'm American and my samples would only show high blood pressure medication. Maybe a bit of alcohol. Davi
  2. Loiseau, It seems to switch from La to Le to La to Le. No Do Re Mi Fa though. David
  3. Nick P, Had the urine been tested for drugs? David
  4. Norman, Alastair Fotheringham covers the Tour quite well in the Independent and i David
  5. Pierre, Unfortunaately, so far ITV4 hasn't covered the other Tours and I'm not paying Sky to watch anything. Fortunately, we have freeview. David
  6. Russet, Are you saying that cheating is only cheating if nobody sees you do it? When I was young, I used to steal Snickers bars, but nobody saw me do it. Therefore, it wasn't really stealing. David
  7. 5, The French liked Lemond because his name sounded French. David
  8. Brian, I wonder if Armstrong enjoyed that ride across Iowa yesterday with several thousand others? Somebody had to. (See Bill Bryson) David
  9. Chris, I wasn't talking about the drugs rumor. I was talking about the gel eating incident. David
  10. PaulT, On a stage a couple back the rules were that you cannot get anything to eat from the team car within 10k of the finish. (Some stages it is 10k, some 20k.) Froom's teammate went back and got some gel for Froom because his sugar level was getting low. He ate it within the 10k limit. I know this sounds petty, but rules is rules and he broke it. He was penalised 20 seconds, which was a slap on the wrist as he was five minutes ahead of everybody. His team was also fined. Supposing he had followed the rules and not eaten the gel, would he have lost a lot of time or possibly crashed and abandoned the Tour? We will never know, because he cheated.  David
  11. Chris, I have some photos I took of the build-up....somewhere. David
  12. NH, 'It is simply a question of repetition and habit' Wee. David
  13. nana, Froome cheated, and will win. A bit like some others have done. We will probably get to see Cavendish win the last stage today, crossing the line with the usual grin on his face like he has won the Tour, even though he is 3 1/2 hours behind Froome. And he won't even win the green jersey. As it finishes later than usual, maybe we won't see his stupid grin in the darkness. Good enough for you? I've watched most of it on ITV4 and could have seen the stage near Saumur if we hadn't had to cancel our holiday due to my wife getting booked for a hip replacement operation. We did, however, see two stages in previous years. Whooooooosh, there it was, gone. I think Armstrong went past, but couldn't swear to it. That Gary Imlach called me from Atlanta years ago when he was doing American football. David
  14. Wobbly, I'm alive, 73, and have worn glasses since the age of 13. David
  15. DD, If you know where to put them, can't you just use the ones for British cars? David
  16. wobblynana, My homemade apple wine is about 15%. If I freeze it, the part that doesn't freeze, mostly alcohol, tastes a bit like Calvados. David
  17. Russet, Yes, I read/heard that as well. They used to have mobile distilleries and would drive around making Calvados for apple farmers. I might have 'read' it in local papers and I suppose it might have died out by now. We did a tour of one of the better known distillers years ago and the guide referred to 'the angel's share' without explaining it. We had to explain to some Polish tourists what it meant because they thought it referred to workers stealing a bit of Calvados. David
  18. I have a label from a bottle of Beaujolais called Pisse-Dru. David
  19. Russet, A half bottle of Calvados at Waitrose is more expensive than a bottle of Calvados we buy at Auchan in Calais. Yes, apple brandy is good, but I'll bet a twenty year old is quite expensive. David
  20. Russet, As I said, a lot of boxed wine is AOC. We also buy wine in (?sp) pompes funebres/flower shops from huge plastic containers. They will fill any container you bring as long as they know how much it holds. (?sp) Vin en vrac shops will do the same. We ain't proud. David
  21. Angela, I believe the Stevenage shop sells Calvados. I guess the Montreuil shop is too far from Calvados country. David
