If you have a UK Makro card you can use it in Metro in France, but it does have to be one that lets you into the food section or otherwise its just the office stuff.

Indeed there is ! and the plumber has been told!

No but if you find them let me know!! the bits I really would like to get sorted is where the water comes out of the wall into the cistern , not a flexible but as you say rigid chrome.

We're on Blue but all I can vaguely remember is that the larger the supply the more you pay per unit, as you place is enormous it doesn't bode well :-)but not sure if they do some kind of commercial rates but as a larger domestic consumer you will pay the highest rate.
-
Thanks for that as I was wondering

With our domestic mortgage you can run a rent it out when your not there or Chambre D'hote but not another kind of business without having a commercial mortgage

The other thing to bare in mind if your only over here for a limited time I'm sure you don't want to spend hunting round brico sheds so if you've brought it with you yo can just get on with it, your French neighbours might not be so keen on seeing bringing everything with you so be a bit discreet and support your local french businesses if you can in other ways.

I'm about 4/5th through it, best to date as far as I'm concerned but agree its confusing to get into, I thought it was just me and bit over tired when I was reading it.

@Q a very delayed reply I vaguely remember you mentioning your booking system but I have a feeling its not compatible with Mac which is a shame

good to hear, so it doesn't matter how many TV's you have?

We've had 2 incidents with white goods, a lieberre freezer which was repaired under warranty but charged for labour cost a fortune and took forever normally fantastic products but after care in France appalling. Secondly a bosche washing machine which was bought at our local independent shop he came out immediately fixed it quickly and didn't charge labour (which I don't think is normally covered in France under the warranty) So I agree Darty is a lovely store but if it is a long way from where you live , think about the aftercare you get and the cost.We have various split clims that I've bought second hand while we wait for planning for the real thing to come through and have to say that the Brandt one is probably the best even though its the cheapest make.

The letter we have just got you do have to send back even if you haven't a TV, ticking the appropriate box, so the want of a stamp I'd send it back. The bit I'm confused about is our is a maison secondaire, run as a Chambre D'Hote , we have a TV and 3 for guests so how much we pay? as I believe it is how many TV'S not per household.

look for a commercial laundry, they don't charge much but you do often have to leave it there for a while, the one I've used in Pezenas can take a week in peak season. They're no good if you have anything fancy with frills or embroidery as they don't get the finish which is the reason I stopped using them. By the time you've costed washing and ironing in terms of electricity and time it's certainly the better option to get the pros to do it!!

We put 2 large electric hot water tanks for the guest part of our accommodation, Ist due to price of oil as our boiler is out of the ark and secondly when its really hot in summer when we are at our busiest I don't want the boiler heating up the back stairs and our accommodation when its running for just water. In the near future we are going to change the boiler but I'm not sure wether to change it over to town gas,

I've always booked via Parcels2go and found them to be very reliable, you pick which service such as DHL, Fed ex or Parcelforce. As a rule i'll use DHL as its normally quicker with less damages and its full trackable. I think the services sometimes break down in terms of delays when they hit France as they sometimes use a 3rd party courier to deliver, In the Gers the guy was fantastic as we were frequent users I could normally time it to within an hour as I knew his route or he'd leave it hidden for us. Its not quite so good here in the Herault as they sometimes just leave a card even though you are in and have to phone for it to be re delivered which is a bit of a pain but then again we don't use it as much now.

Great article! well done you can't beat getting press to increase hits to your website, I know you believe in Google ad words, I found them an expensive way of getting hits. I just wish I could get more written about us in quality magazines and papers!

Stylistically I'd agree that its a but fussy, and I'm not over keen on the sold black border on the inserted photos, It could be worth trying a postage stamp style edge and have the back bit that is rolled down just plain. As a concept its good just needs a bit of refining

I got one of these to reduce charges with Ryanair and started to book 10 flights for OH all was going tickity boo for 6 of the flights but then I kept getting error messages about the card, checked the account and there was still credit on it and re entered the details on Ryanair website a number of times. It was the first time I used it so I don't know if that was the problem but the cynic in me thinks it could be Ryanair as it worked perfectly when I used a card that charged. I'm not a Ryanair basher in fact I think they're rather good but I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experience this when trying to use a prepaid card.

http://www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/157009000.htm?ca=13_sthank you everyone this is almost identical but with higher mileage, but gives me a good starting point but I prefer the price of the one tandem pilot found :-)

That's a good idea. I was wondering though if there is some kind of guide book or website, I believe that there is something like that in the UK but second hand cars in france seem a lot more expensive in France.I forgot to say it was an elegance model as well

We're thinking of changing our car this year. We might buy one i Germany and import it as I've been told its a good way of getting a newish Merc. So here's my issue how do I find out what my car is worth in France if I want to sell it privately ? apart from not much!!! Its a Long wheelbase (family) Mercedes A Class CDI 2002 with 150,000 Km on the clock, body work has a few scratches and a tiny ding but a good runner.

We used them at the old house after we had eradicated the ones that were there already and they didn't return so , yes they probably do!

We have quite a few vintage chandeliers where the bulb is visible and you can now get LED that look like the original twisted tip bulb. I was panicking that our supply of incandescent ones had run out and I'd have to use ugly bulbs, not sure how long they'll last but at least they are more energy efficient and we can keep our vintage lighting, I found Leroy Merlin to be the cheapest (surprisingly!)

Glad to hear it's almost sorted, stress full times
