1. Hi, you can incorporate anything into your K-Bis as long as it comes under the chambre de commerce jurisdiction, unless you have done the appropriate and recognised diplomas for the chambre de metiers (as well as their 5 day course) But do check about the agent commercial, because although a commercial post would seem obvious to come under the chambre de commerce you in fact have to register with the greffe to be an agent commercial and when I did I then had to de-register from the chambre de commerce! This may not be the case now or indeed in all departments. Also the route of de-rigistering is a long and painfull one, take my word for it. Another point, I don't know what you are planning to sell as an agent commercial but as with contractors in the uk if it seems that you are infact working for one organisation as a commercial agent the rules have been changing and you may end up being seen as an employee and have to take your 'employer' task for the appropriate money, rights etc. This is particularly the case when it comes to selling houses and different departments view it differently and change their minds with the weather! Good luck and try to maintain a good relationship with the local chambre de commerce or employ an advocat de societe to check that all is right.
2. I would recommend you try this but we were told that they were not qualified to recognise a UK passport, but like most things here it depends which official you come across! Good luck.
3. Of course you can email me personally but I am not familliar with how to do this, do i need to give you my email address on here or can you find it anyway? I will help all I can and look forward to hearing from you again Sarah
4. We are in the north Lot et Garonne, so not too far from South Dordogne, our children have been here for a number of years and are bilingual, our oldest daughter started at college last september and she was top in her class in french. A couple of months after starting she said that all the foreign children had been gathered together and told that they had to do extra french lessons once a week in their lunch times. I was shocked and asked her french teacher about it who said she was not aware of this but could think of other children who could do with the extra help other than our daughter! However in hindsight, the sentiment was good, the college was really trying to get the english, belgian, dutch and american children at the school to be successful and our daughter has made the most of it and used it to help with any issues she had. The College is very proactive and I would recommend it to anyone coming to the area. We fought quite hard to get her there and I am glad we did. If you want to know more, just let me know.
5. I have been an agent for the last few years in the area, and although I have recently taken a break I will give you a ball park figure. This is very dependent on the position and you can pay a bit less or alot more, it must be special to pay alot more! Say 6 to 8 euros a square metre with CU but negotiate on the services being put into place. Do not buy without CU or a suspensive clause for CU if you want to build, and if possible use a recommended local architect to get full planning permission.Ask EDF and the water board (SAUR) for an official devi so you know what the services are going to cost. Also keep in with the maire as although he does not make final decisions his support will be invaluable.
6.
Carry a battery powered angle grinder :?
Where can we get some of these from? I can think of a few other battery powered tools we would like too.....
7. Please  be careful, particularly if you have just been back to the uk, it is so easy to drive on the wrong side of the road which can end with tragic consequences. Also remember that you could be approaching a brit on the wrong side. After a very sad accident here we spoke with our friends and we were surprised how many have either driven on the wrong side or who have seen cars on the wrong side. Just remember to drive on the right, if you are in a uk car just say I am in the ditch!
8. Do try to get your carte de sejour if you feel it is necessary, we tried and tried and eventually succeeded and we use it regularly, but not to go abroad with, we still need our uk passports for that. We were trying to start a business 5 years ago and the chambre de commerce said that the last thing on the long list we needed was the carte de sejour, the mairie would not give the carte de sejour as we had no proof of income (impossible without being able to start the business) so we were in catch 22 position. Eventually we went to the prefecture, to a department for foreigners (we were the only europeans waiting in the queue) when we explained our situation the woman made a very impatient phone call to our mairie and the usually butch man there was subserviant when we got back! Our experiences here over the last 5 years have been that it all depends which fonctionnaire it is you speak to and how they have interpreted the laws and which day of the week it is. Smile alot and try to fit in while also trying to get your way, DO NOT just walk away, ever. Also the information about the passport is correct, turnaround is very quick at the consulate and very helpfull.
9. We had to get a document witnessed here a few years ago and were told that nobody in france could recoginse a British passport therefore could not sign that we were who we said we were. However we went to the mairie who after looking in the biggest book we have ever seen confirmed that they couldn't do it, stamped and signed the document as we didn't just walk away and it was a private matter. Sometimes just persistence and empathy with fonctionnaires sees us through here.
