  1. I've gone with the consensus and bought a Pace 2600CI, I paid £43 for an "as new" one from a dealer on Ebay.  I go back to UK this week so will report back. Just worth mentioning, my Panasonic took a turn for the worse last night so I took the cover off and it was fairly dusty inside.  I suspected it was overheating so took a soft paintbrush to it helped along with a lot of blowing and cleaned it all off.  Hey presto - it works like new.[:D] Oh well, a spare one is always worth having I suppose!
  2. Thanks everyone, great response.  I'll target a Pace on Ebay, I go back next week so can bring it back with me.  Good point about the gred of companies over here, half the price and get 4 times the trade, there's a concept!! Cheers Andy
  3. Has anyone any idea what is now considered to be the best digibox to buy to use in France?  I have been using a Panasonic TU-DSB30 up to now which in it's day was considered the best. This is now on its way out and unless anyone knows better I'll probably buy the same again.  Any advice much appreciated. Thanks - Andy
  4. Thanks Sunday Driver, I missed that mainly I have to admit, because my French isn't too hot.  I've re-followed the link and as you show in line 2 it would appear that if a car isn't fitted with rear seats than carrying a child is allowed.  That's a relief [:)] I'll have to make a note of the clause and carry it with me in case I get stopped!
  5. I have established that children must travel in the rear until aged 10 and presume that if you don't have a rear (eg two seat sports car) then children are precluded from travelling in it at all until aged 10.  Does anyone know any different or is that the end of my plan to enjoy a two seater!? [8-)]
  6. Merci Clair - c'etait tres vite!!!!
  7. Hello all, I am about to move over to France and was wondering if there are any laws regarding children having to use a booster seat similar to those introduced recently in the UK? Also are there any rules regarding young children travelling in the front passenger seat - I have a two seat sports car? Thanks in advance [:)]   Andy Pom
  8. Thanks all for your help, initially I was concerned about RHD but I'm now more worried about my other car which is a 2003 LHD Landcruiser that I imported to the UK from Kuwait.  It was mine from new and I did have it converted to pass the DVLA conformity test but will no doubt have to do something similar in France.  I think it'll be worth the hassle though as we love the car. 9. Ta for the quick response, I guess "easy" was a poor choice of word, I really just wanted to make sure it could be done as someone was trying to tell me that you could only have a RHD if it was still registered in the UK!!!!???
  10. Hi all, I think this question must have been answered before and I'm sure the answer is yes but I can't find it so here goes: Is it easy enough to register a RHD car for use on the roads in France? Cheers Andy Pom
  11. Does anyone have or know of anyone who has a 4 bedroomed property available in the Aix area (preferably within 15-20 mins of Luynes) to rent for 6 - 12 months starting in March/April 2007?  Any help greatly appreciated. Andy
  12. I am in a little bit of an unusual situation and would appreciate any advice if anyone knows the answer. I am planning to move to Provence in the New Year and bring my vehicle with me.  Initially I was going to drive it under my UK insurance for up to 90 days until I sort the paperwork out.  From reading what is posted here, it sounds that if I intend to reside in France I have two weeks only - is that right? The next thing is the fact that I imported the vehicle with me from the Middle East when I returned last year.  I do have a "certificate of comformity" which had to be issued after minor adjustments so it would be accepted by DVLA, will this suffice for French registration? And finally (sorry!!) as I'd owned the car for more than a year I didn't have to pay import duty into the UK.  I have now owned the car for over 3 years and it has 60,000km on the clock - will I be liable to VAT/import duty in France. Thanks in anticipation Andy
  13. I have looked at the above link (thanks) but was wondering if maybe someone could help me more specifically.  I have a house which I bought to let out in the UK 3 years ago.  I used it for 6 months last year as my primary residence in UK whilst looking to buy a family home.  I subsequently bought another house and am now selling it to move to France next year.  I don't know whether to keep my rental property or sell it to avoid later French tax.  Any ideas/advice would be greatly appreciated.
  14. Hello again, Thanks to everyone who has replied, we are still at the planning stage, the job is organised, the house on the market so we just have to wait.  We visited Aix last month, it is a great area and we still hope to be there by the end of the year but until we sell the house we have to be patient. Once it all comes together we'll 1. Panic 2. Probably post for more help!!! Cheers The Poms
  15. Thanks for the replies.  Thomas 16 - some interesting points, it sounds like it's worked well for you.  My daughter has had private education whilst I worked abroad in the Middle East and so is in almost exactly the same situation as your daughter was.  I think I tend to agree with the point you make about sending her to an English school, how would I go about finding out about a French Language School?  The idea of sending her for a while to get her French up to speed before "re-integrating" into a local school makes a lot of sense.
