1. If you have been told by experts that it is not rising damp then it could be penetrating damp which could be caused by a number of factors.  For example it could be rain hitting the external walls soaking through the bricks which may need repointing.  To remedy this, your cheaper option would be to repoint, plaster or clad the exterior of your house. What are the ground levels outside your house?  If the levels are higher, then this will be the cause of moisture transmission and you will need to apply a form of tanking.
2. I would rather not clarify thank you.  I would either get banned or you would think I was a weirdo for peeping [:D]
3. I think, like UK they can offer smoking rooms to guests. I see people in the hotel room opposite me smoking all the time ........amongst other things.[+o(] [:(] [Www] [:$] [blink]
4. The french ones dont work in France.   Well mine doesnt and the after services a crap.
5. Keeping entering the kitchen unannounced with a dirty mug and say to Mrs Dave, "Oooh is that a nice cup of tea I can smell luv?"  And don't forget the 'luv'..... that bit is really important.
6. Yes, I will have Twinks to arrange it next time I am down. [B][8-|]
7. I stayed at a gite once and left it how I considered clean, I stripped the beds and left the linen on top of each bed, I cleaned all the dishes and put them away and I wiped around the surfaces.  The only thing I did not do, because I did not have time was to vacuum and mop.  You should have heard the complaints I had from that. I know this gite owner employs cleaners and includes this service in the price.  It would have literally taken half an hour to put clean linen on beds, mop through and do all that fancy stuff they insist on doing with loo roll. So what did I end up paying for?  When I go to a hotel room, I leave my room clean but I am not expected to vacuum through. Needless to say, I never went back.  [:@]
8. I am very sorry Ian, thank God she came out of it.  I thought of her just last week as I drove past Le Mans.  Give her my love.  Just to let you know, Debs is a wonderful asset to the forum and is a wealth of information to people like myself who have recently arrived in France.  Tell her to hurry up and get better as we need her. [:)]
9. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nUaQCvRyn78 This really made me laugh [:D]
10. I take it you are now all bored of comparing your pipes. [:D] Oh the wit [:$]
11. And then there was the guy from Merthyr Tydfil who stuck his head in the oven and changed his mind to have a ciggie.  [:D] The Council put him on an advanced thinking course.
12. What about the marketing wizard at Birmingham Council who pasted a picture of Birmingham on their glossy brochure and, after they had all been printed off to the cost of thousands, a resident pointed out that the picture was of Birmingham USA.  Ooops[:$]
13. The building sites here are great. They wear just shorts and trainers, no sunscreen.  They work on untied ladders ALONE and are happy to use untied access to scaffolding. I have never seen anyone use eyeprotection when needed and waste material is slung anywhere and everywhere.  Health and safety certainly exists, they make surprise visits and will close them down, but who cares?  This is France [:D]
14. I've been sussed. [:$] People never take me seriously for some reason. [:(][:D]
15. Hi Iceni, No I am not influenced by the most beautiful city in the world.  The issues I have with E and horse are from my heart.  I always avoid E's as best I can and am surprised and disappointed that they are in so many foods here. However, I will just have to adjust to this and cook en masse from fresh ingredients.  I am a working girl you see and do not really have the time to visit the markets to buy fresh each day.  I wish I did have the time because the fresh produce there is superb. As far as the horsemeat is concerned, I had really thought that this was now illegal and driven underground.  As I said, I have a wierd facination about it.  I suppose the same as kangaroo and crocodile where (and I will be candid here), if I were offered a piece, I would try.  But on the other hand it sickens me (as I am sure it sickens many) because of our relationship with the horse. However, what confuses me is  that at the end of the day, those who choose to eat this meat will argue that this creature is not that different to a cow or a deer and I would not be able to argue against these points even though I feel in my heart that eating a horse is wrong.
16. Sorry for being selfish but I am gutted.  I would really have loved to see this dogs development;
17. TCN [:D]  I am so envious of you.  I would definitely have taken this dog if I did not live in an apartment.  WJT will be thrilled when she sees this. Please promise you will post his progress with you on the forum I am genuinely interested in him. What is your little girl going to name him?
18. Yes John Halal meat is cruel.  Why however is it cheaper than ordinary meat? OK I have an apology to make, I have come to the realisation that getting good products is more difficult in France than the UK but that does not mean it is not there.  The UK is more convenient but in France it is more of a chore to find the right ingredients.  And good for them, why should they work 24/7?  God I hate that phrase.
19. [:D] The forum is really good for that..................for those who want it that is.
20.
Oh drat!! I knew there was something we were going to do! [;-)] Sid
Never mind, so long as you showed appreciation for the pop n crisps you scoffed down.  It is wonderful news the man himself is making a recovery.[:)] So, being my nosey self, what is the set up with you biker boys?  Did you know each other beforehand or have you mainly met via the forum?
21. I don't think I could eat it either, but I must admit, I do have a bit of a sick fascination with it and I don't know why.  I have asked a few people at work what it tastes like and most of them don't like it.  One guy has told me that if it is not cooked properly it will give you worms.  My mum told me that was the case with all meat.[:-))]  Another guy went Parisian on me and started blowing raspberries and ranting and raving in French [blink], I think he was telling me to eat fish but I wouldnt put my mortage on it. I quite liked Shergar and that alone would put be off, but I can understand hard nosed carnivores eating it.  At the end of the day how would this person see a horse differently to a cow?
22. Are you enjoying yourselves boys?  Shame on the lot of you for not runner the strimmer of SD,s back yard for him.  I hope he remembers that when you have a spot of trouble in the future. [:@] What flavour pop and crisps are you enjoying? [:D]
23.
Horse meat is sold in the supermarkets I visit in Aurillac and Brive.
Is it as popular as the other meats?
