  1. i havent got a uk company any more, but if i had and i wanted to know what you want to know, i would go and ask the uk tax man, your still paying his wages use him and dont be fobbed off,ask him what the uk would be happy with and get it in writing with someones name and signiture on it
  2. no sorry, but ive never heard of anyone having problems with ford headlights, ive done two transits,a susuki, and a bm ,never had trouble why do you think your going to,
  3. maybe the local farmer would lend you his shot gun
  4. come on ty put me out of my missery ,what you gona charge per metre sq after all this banter, you tell me and i ll tell you
  5. hi james, ty and all,i think possiably james is right when he says people dont know where they want to live,i think my self that i didnt do enough research ,me and the better half rented for three months twice in different places went to exhibitions, read mags ,surffed the net, holidays in different parts of france and we are still not really happy about our location and are planning another move, this time hopefully for the last time.what we were both agreed on though was that we wanted out of the uk,and if thats what people really want they have to take chances but people dont have to make the same mistakes that we and others have done.we are now making a list of what we really want out of the place we are going to live next, top of the list weather  .it as to be at least as good as it is here dept 16  and still in france dont fancy spain yuk, next it as to have a airport within an hours drive that does cheapish flights to our part of the uk wich is manchester or liverpool, stella likes swimming so a indoor swimming pool is a must in the locality,a choice of good resturants that are local not half an hours drive away, things like this really matter and even though every one elses list may differ a bit or a lot you really should have a clear idea of what you need to get out of the place your going to,but in my oppinion to do it and make mistakes is better than never trying
  6. hi ty,its quite common to use a compressor with a hopper to squirt whatever product you use to point,it as to go in the machine quite sloppy and is messy but it gets the job done a lot quicker, trouble comes when you try to get the effect you want theres so much done it goes off on you unless they have a few men brushing it out,you can end up with a job looking half right and the stone looking all clean from a distance when its just covered in new crap.thats why i say have a look at some of there work and make sure your happy with it,and by the way  the person who replied is right its not rocket science if your able bodied you could do it your self,if your any were near me im doing my own all next week you or any body that wants to learn is wellcome to call for a brew and a look .ps i am assuming that this is pierre apperont if its like english pointing forget every thing ive said it would have to go in by hand
  7. thats top doller,im doing my own now and im doing it properly so the place stays up for a while as well as looking good, have a look at some of there finished work,i think its a bit dear that,if they use a machine you dont get quite the same results and id expect that cheaper, you get what you pay for but only if you look first
  8. hi  paul, you should narrow it down a bit,but if you get anywere near chalais dept 16 drop in for a brew,im converting a barn your wellcome to have a toot round and i ll show you were a staggering amount of time and money as gone.ive also got a friend close by who lives in a new build and whoes sisters house is part built both by the same local company and no complaints so far
  9. just for those interested,my lad is 23 got a wife two kids, works for his self floor screeding and finds work for two labourers ,he pays the tax man and nat insurance pays work insurance runs a van pays the accountant ect,one person says he could borrow145 grand, wouldnt buy him a great deal really and if the old government mucks up completly and intrest rates double weres that leave him,hes already working and travelling 12 hours a day probably just get a part time job as well eh
  10. hi ernie, unfortunatly i know quite a few people in your position and wouldnt know what to advise, there is a english chap near us with a big fancy office in town who,es letting client after client down,he knows absulutly nothing about building but how do you stop it happening, english people seem loth to use the french courts but its prity simple to do and investing in a solicitors letter may just do the job in your case, wouldnt break the bank to try
  11. what you really want logan is to find a country not run by gangsters and bullys,im 52 and can remember when the unions had a shout in the uk,and yes for 20 years the people in the uk had a voice, you all may disagree with me its yur right    for the time being   but i remember it as a time when working class folk could buy there own houses my son in the uk is having to buy a crap council house beacouse his wages about 800 pounds a week wont buy him any thing else, people in the uk need to stand up to the government again. the people here in france do to some extent and in my opinion are the better for it
  12. hi cris,im a bit further down than you dept 16,i will take it that you are after a response wether good or bad,its the later from me im affraid, which ever way you cut it you want to be a middle man and sit on your arse while someone else makes money for you,im not against it really you may be able to do some people a brillient sevice and theres allways the odd posibility i could be completly wrong in my attitude, but im entitled to my opinion and that is that middle men cost money i wish you all the best of luck  though from my comments i couldnt blame you for thinking otherwise hardhat
  13. tony im not at all a missrable sod.i get enough work for me,more than enough and im really happy go lucky i have no great need to earn lots of cash, but i have frends here with wives and kiids to support, there is a large renovation project going on now near us and its all being over seen by a french man who advertises his services in british publications and over the internet the people having the job done are a nice couple and i hope things work out for them,i my self woudnt want any of the work invollved its to big a job for me to be interested but there are firms and trades people that are local that would do a good job and on time and on budget why shouldnt they get some of the work, they will after all be neighbours to the people having the work done ,i think its odd that any one would just employ some one they have never met from a advert in a brit paper rather than look at the local labour situation, you take a gamble any way you go buta least if the work men are on your doorstep you have some one to complain to if things arnt right,
  14. hi chris  how u doing, i hope things are well,i have a question for you .why would you not employ me? or other brit firms or micros.we arnt all jack the lads running round scooping money up from un suspecting clients, got nothing against anyone making a living but your trying it seems to give my share of the work about to french firms, personly i hope its a no gower but wish you well with any other ventures
  15. hi,i do the same thing as dave and olive and im amazed that they would contemplate taking a digger out for 150 euros,if you have any digging work get them now,a machine full of fuel will cost you that without a driver, you should up your rate dave thats to cheap
  16. hi every one,im a builder, ive all ready got 15000 invested in a transit tipper 9 grand in a mini digger  another 15 grand in assorted tools ,if ive got this thread right the starter of this thead thinks i should go and look at a job ,spend three or four days pricing it find find the right people to work with me and not take a payment from a client to pay for on going costs wages ect, theres a job creation scheme going on here and the client can only end up worse off paying a extra man ,if a client wants me to do work i want paying as the job progresses or i dont want the job
  17. if your not going to plaster the walls why buy the wrong boards?anyway my suggestgen is leave a gap then fill it with plaster and sand it off

  21. We are in the process of trying to sign a PACS  just going to have our birth +divorce papers translated tommorrow .Ive a feeling it could be a long job!!!!!
  22. ive done quite a lot and this allways works, bog standard chaux from builders, the sand gives it the colour so shop about different sand different finish, when you have the sand you want get enough for the whole job you might not match it again later.i use a trowel to put it on,a wire brush to take it off and a softer brush to take out the lines left by the wire brush, let the mix go very nearly dry before wire brushing thisfirst brush work is what gives you the finish you want, mix a full mixer full 3 sand 1 chaux exact do it in level bucket fulls and allways the same mix so the colour stays constant,by the time you get a full mix on the wall the first bit should be about ready to come off.
  23. hi  im doing a barn conversion ,sorted the roof out first not much point doing anything else till thats done, bought a mini digger and dumper and did the outside new fosse and filter bed and loads of drains.had a french achitect for the plans six beds six baths three lounges two kitchens ect, been doing it 18 months now ,15 living in small caravan, now have2 beds complete 1 ensuite1 with bath next door, got the main lounge done kitchen done.ive split the barn into 3 sections with 2 internal gable walls ,in the middle section we have a mezinine floor that makes a split level lounge afurther bedroom ensuite nither of wich are finished and i havent started on the third section, cant help you much with the cost becouse every one as different requirments, but dont expect labour costs to be any cheaper than the uk,they arnt, and remember if you pay peanuts you get monkeys.building materiels are not much different in price to the uk ,what else can i tell you ,expect to run over your budget as you probably will im in the building trade myself and done a lot of this work my self and im way over budget.dont think im all doom and gloom though ive enjoyed it and id do it all over again and probably will, good luck and if there is any thing specific i can help you with let me know
  24. i get the fact that all this topic is based on the fact some one wants to pay as little tax on there income as possiable, great thats what we all want isnt it.but does that mean if i break my leg i have to ring a british ambalance,if my kid as appendicites i have to get in the car and drive 14 hours to dover,if the house gets robbed i doubt very much if you will get any satisfaction ringing 999,i think its laughable your prepared to pay tax for someting you cant have and cant use but wont pay tax for what your getting here.
