hi brian,im doing a fair sized barn conversion thats classed as a new build,if you have drawings made up in the uk and its over 170 m2 you need a french arcihitect to put his stamp on them,same with electric you can do it but you have to pay to have it checked and stamped up .apart from that its.prity easy going here compared to the uk. there is stuff you need to know for your drawings like windows,in most cases you wont get plans passed if they are wider than tall,and off the shelf ones are all made like that

french cant do points on a uk licence so dont bother about that,dont know about plates but i wouldnt change them unless told to by some one like the police.if you get stoped

hi pat and thanks for the encouragment.i think ive got the booze beaten,most of the time.but wont really be sure till they put me in the ground,i dont think i will ever touch a drink again but look at goerge bests very moving funneral the other day,some people say he wasnt worth the new liver he got but i know the demons he fought most his life and its not an easy fight.

sturrdave,if you would inform on any one who flaunts the law you would be very busy here in my village,you could get half the population and 100 percent of brits for drink driving coming out of the local bar,every brit that lives near me who does holiday rentals cheats there taxes by banking in england,while they are having work done a large percentage pay cash and sod the law,put your dog in kennels pay cash its cheaper,get your fosse empted by the local farmer illeagal but who cares you need the bog and theres no one else,i could go on and on its a way things are done here,and its interesting to see you havent even the b,,ss to fill in your members profile,still like other informers the norm is to stay anonymous

le bouffon,why do you need to open a thread like this ? we know there are people on your side who think its a good idea to inform or grass on other people,do you feel a great need to have people tell you its right before you do the dirty deed,why dont you just do it and tell all your village you have done it,go and tell the old lady what you intend doing,or is it more your style to post letters in the dead of night and then tell the neighbours you dont know who said what,hitler had is little grasses they used to inform on there own parents for being bad germans and personaly i would consider any one with your attitude to be of the same ilk,if you want to be a informer stand up and be counted and see then who gets looked at and left out of conversations in the village,if you were in my house having dinner and this subject came up you woudnt reach the dessert you would be shown the door long before it was served

dont waste your cash if you dont need to,you can do a house170 sq m without a archetect, and a lot of french building companys have ready made plans for larger houses that you can buy direct from them even if they are doing no work on the job,unless its somthing special dont waste your cash ,i did and regret it.

thanks for your replies all,bit of a shock the 18,000 quote ,thats a lot of cash for a big bath.i personally woudnt pay that much if they are that expensive i would do one in blockwork and have it asphalted,ive just heard there is a place coming out of bordaeux on the liborne road that makes them,dont know the name but assurred its there so i will have a look,deffinatly wont be paying that much though,i will let you know

just had a look at my local hire shop prices,he does both scissor lifts and cherry pickers but only as prices in the book for a cherry picker 135 a day, 236 weekend,no price for the week,ive used both and you can get an awfull lot done in a day with either,bit of advice if you hire the machine get someone to give you a lift while you do the work .you will do 5 times the amount you would on yor own and end up saving hire charges.if anyone wants to know about needing a licencse i would say not. ive got a licencse but never been asked for it for hiring one

hi teamedup,i have to agrre with you that there are lots of lazy incompitent workers who should be out on there ears both here and in england,but what can we do about it, go back wards with labour laws,give employers the right to sack someone on the spot,for whatever takes there fancy.when this thread started it was about a worker who had been with a company for two and a half years not two weeks,ive run my own companys and sacked people for being lazy and thick,but i spot them in weeks not years and as far as i know you can still do this here and in england. the guy at the desk for 28 years,you tell the story well,but theres always two sides to a story, he could tell his grand children that he started work with ici knowing every thing there was to know about his job and every day he would share his knowledge with the younger thick people so they could get on in life,then came high tec stuff computers and things and every thing changed,never needed sat there 20 years worrying about getting the sack, no one to turn to taking more and more antidepressants to combat the lonlyness ect ect

im astounded by the number of employers on this and other forums along with there supporters who really think it should be there god given right to utilise work people for years and then just sack them when it suits,france is a socialist country one of the reasons i came here,everyone is entitled to to a fair deal and slaging a work man who is never going to be able to tell his side of a story seems a bit sad,two and a half years with a company the guy must have been doing something right like making the employer money or why would anyone want to keep him so long .there are two sides to a story and people should not take as gosple every thing they read on here

hi,you dont need anyones permission just ask for the address of your nearest soil testing office,they will come out for a fee and tell you what you need system wise and were the filter bed can go,its there job
