1. I am unsure as to what has happened to the dog, I tried contacting by using the number on the ad, but couldn't get through, despite trying for the majority of the day. I do hope that someone has been able to save this dog, the breed are fantastic, if he got on with other dogs, and we knew what he was like with children, I wouldn't hesitate in taking him on, but having a 7 year old in the house, and not knowing the history, I don't think that it could be possible.
2. Does anyone have any information on the rottweiler that can just be seen peering bleakly in the darkness?
3.
I just had a thought, maybe Belle should have a quiet word with the frogs and ask them if they could only make noise between certain hours of the day, say 8am -12pm, 2pm - 7.00pm - 7.30pm If the frogs don't comply, she should report them to her mairie. As for complaining about me calling you shallow, what do you expect when you post something ridiculous on open forum! You can drain the pond, or not drain the pond, but you will have the frogs calling every year, whether there is water or not, you will also be destroying their breeding ground, as frogs return to the place that they were spawned. No matter what you do, you cannot escape the sounds of nature.
Where on earth did I say that you were stupid? Open forums are to express opinions, give advise, and yes, maybe push fun at some of the more ridiculous posts, it all keeps a happy balance! As for my 'nasty comments' hardly nasty, just a bit of light hearted banter. Maybe the frogs are just as annoyed with the noises that you make, as you are with them!

5. This should make Belle happier: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/special_events/green_week/article1128488.ece
6. I cannot believe that someone could be shallow enough to complain about the noise made by frogs, and have 8 shallower friends, who left because of the noise! Pond = frogs...... simple as that. Frogs make noise, so do the crickets and other insects and nightbirds. If you lost the frogs, how would you go about a mass cull of the crickets? Turn your lawn into a mass of sticky traps? We are surrounded by ponds, in fact we have one a metre away from our house in our back garden, the kitchen looks out onto it, and our bedroom over it. We have at least 20 in that pond. Out of the front of the house, we have another pond, and a stream, and a large lake, all full of frogs. Our neighbours have 3 or 4 large ponds, that they breed frogs in. None of our friends have walked out in the evening because of the noise, they all love it and find it fascinating and we certainly haven't lost any sleep because of it. We came from an area where we had helicopters flying over all times of day and night, tanks thundering past throughout day and night, lorries cars etc.... I certainly know which I prefer, IT'S CALLED LIVING IN THE COUNTRY!!!!!! (Must stress to the cats that frogs are a protected species though..... they do like to scare them! [:D]
7. If you stress a cat during labour, then the kittens also become stressed, and it can lead to death of mother and babies. Its best just to keep a very close eye on her, and watch where she is having them and move after the births.
8. On my box, you go into the security settings, (password protected, admin is the default password for both user and password) go to security and then go to wireless. When you are in there you will see that you can change the settings to wap, wep etc, it will also allow you to see if the dongle has been found by the box, as it will have assigned your computer number to it. Try playing around with those for a while, I had to do this quite a bit while setting it up, I found that to bypass everything, I had to turn the security off which allowed the wireless connection to work, and then turn it back on again, hoping and praying that it didn't register the dongle as a threat, which it didn't thank god! Good luck.
9. I know this may sound like I'm being rude, but I'm not, honestly.... (it took me 6 very long hours setting one of ours up wifi) When you enter the wep key, it has to be EXACTLY the same as what is on the sticker, and watch for the 0's that look like noughts and vice versa. When you hit the wifi button on the box, you only have about 5 minutes to get the connection going, if you don't do it in that time, it resets itself and you have to start over again. You could always go into the livebox security settings, and have a look at what it is set to recieve? Just a thought.
10. Hi, Don't know if they are still available, but on the 'other forum' (AI) someone was advertising 5 males, 2 black and white, 2 black short hair, one black long hair and one smoky/bluey grey. Contact either Shelley Smith or Tony on 05 46 51 08 28 Sorry about Tommy. You could also contact www.phoenixasso.com apparantly they have a lot of kittens at the moment. Take care

Hen

Mite powder and then just let it roll around in the dust.... (not as mad as it sounds, as they do dust bathe). Companion may be tricky as they are very fussy birds, if they have been kept in a group before not to bad, but if it has been on its own, it will probably fight with any new bird. Cats are great with chickens, they tend to get used to them and generally ignore them. Mine sleep in the chicken shed with the hens! Good luck
12. well i didnt know that.  it hasnt been registered in france, but once it has been, just insurance then !
13. i have an old xt 250 and only use for off road use. i have been wondering if it would be easy enough to put on the road here.anyone have any idea ? i have lights and a horn, but no indicators and a non standard can. is it the same test centre as it is for cars ? thanks, steve
14. the traditional "nod" when passing an oncoming biker !
15. what about using oak lintels, can be cut big enough to take the strain ! is it still allowed to use timber as a lintel ?
16. not wishing to get into an argument with you dick, i have respect for any member that has given sound advice would you teach someone to spell incorrectly?
17. chris, drunk and regretting my post. no. i keep looking at the picture and it is the same. one of many diy,ers i dont think so. you say i must be an expert, well 27 years experience in the construction industry says i know what i am talking about. are you an expert with a chainsaw ? probably not, but i would think you are as good as you hope to be and your advice on that subject is taken with respect. i reply to posts to pass on knowledge for the benefit of others, and i look to do the same. i encourage any diy,ers to have a go and if the job turns out reasonable then they have cracked it, cassis, you have attempted something. in your eyes suceeded and you do not deserve to be put down by me for that i do appologise, i should have kept my comments to myself i have set myself high standards for any work that i take on. if i could not turn out first class work then i wouldnt bother doing it in the first place. i joined this forum to gain sound advice and i have done so, but my opinion remains the same, as in if you cant soundly advise someone. perhaps its best kept to yourself. cassis, i do not mean to offend you, far from it , i am on here to learn about stuff i do not know. i just think that your advice and proof of how to repoint a stone building is not very good. if you are happy with it and you obviously are then you deserve a pat on the back. i am not out to p**s anybody off,  i have recieved negative replies to previous posts but still managed to stay in my pram.
18. thats not pointing a wall, looks more like someone has thrown muck all over it and brushed it off. there is hardly any stone left showing. this has got to be a windup, surely there can not be anybody who would  want that done to their house
19. micky, any chance of passing on the name of the company where you could get 6 metre worktops. dont get me wrong, i dont disbelieve you, but have got to see this product. i thought after so many years fitting kitchens i had seen everything there was to see in kitchen fitting. thanks
20. micky, i have been fitting kitchens for 15 years and only worked for one company that supplied 4 metre worktops.(in uk). even with 3 metre tops could you not reposition your mitres ? will give you 3.6 metre run. how crucial is it to have 4 metres
21. steve, not a 100% sure, but i doubt very much if you would be allowed to move the water meter yourself, it will belong to the water company . (you would definately not be allowed to in uk). you can buy a fitting to go from lead to whatever pipe you are connecting to. no need try soldering straight to copper
22. afy, try www.frankonia.fr recently looked through their catalogue and they seemed to have pretty much everything.
23. with regard to a previous post " workers wanted ". perhaps alarm bells are ringing for those that enquired, after all nobody wants anybody to enter into the black market side of france. everything is supposed to be done honestly and of course, we all do that. ? most of us have chosen to come over here to live and will respect the law, and regulations that we have to abide to........ until it gets cold familiar sight lately, local farmers delivering firewood for the winter. trailers full up with euros and they declare every penny is buying wood for your fire tax free? can the farmers just earn a little bit of cash for the winter? or anybody else that has more wood than they use. that kind of tax evasion seems accecptable?? i have yet to work here in france, and i do not begrudge anybody that earns anything. why is it crossing the channel makes everyone holier than thou  i have met quite a few local french people , most have a sideline ! TAX FREE
24. Hi, My name is Dan i'm 15 and i've lived over here in france for just over 4and a half months. About a year ago my dad (Steve) said he wanted to move to france and i absolutly detested the idea, i had the stubborn attitude that i didnt want to leave my friends behind and would hate it in france. Six months later i still hated the idea, and two months after that i still hated it. A day before we were set to move I just accepted that i could'nt be bothered to argue anymore and went along with it. We got here in June this year which was the middle of the summer holidays so i had two months to relax and settle in at home. (Let me just add i could'nt speak a word of french.) Two months later just when i was getting used to staying at home i was set to join a school 'Collége Voltaire' and was obviously very very nervous of the language and the other children. We went for an interview with the principal and because neither myself, my mum or my dad can speak french they arranged for the school english teacher (who speaks perfect english) to come and translate for us. He told me not to be worried and that there were two other english kids in the school and that i could come to him whenever i had a problem. And also the french being very kind and helpful re-arranged the whole class i was joining's lessons so that my 'professeur principal' (form tutor) was the english teacher. After my first day i absolutly loved it, which is strange as i hated school in england and until this day two months on i still love it. I cant speak french but am picking bits up and everybody in france has been learning english for years so they can all speak small english to me. I've made some friends and the french people are very nice and very helpful and i really feel at home here. Theres no school uniform, theres a half day on wednesday and the school dinners are very nice, but not only that french schools are very helpful and give me private french lessons on my own. I've only been here 4 months and already i am saying that i never want to move back to england. So what i'm basically saying is that it may seem daunting at first which i cant deny but just be brave give it a go and i can garantee that after a month you will feel very welcome and settled. I'm not saying it wont be hard because it will but you get out what you put in and the more effort you put in and the more you try the better. I still speak to my english friends on msn but i prefer to speak to my french friends and the only thing that i regret is not trying to learn french before. If you try to learn it now, by the time you move here you'll speak alot and a few months in you will love it here. Hope this is helpful... Dan
