  1. I just love anything and everything by Peter Frampton, especially Frampton comes Alive, its just timeless.
  2. I don't mind veggie food,  just as long as it's done in a way so that I don't wonder where the meat is. I can't understand veggies who want meat substitutes, I dont' understand that at all:

  4. Salad spinners are widely available  - slow cookers aren't or Yorkshire pudding tIns or deep tins for roasting meat.
  5. Love rocket in salads but like watercress only in soup. Dried apricots great in lamb dishes. I have more of a savoury tooth than a sweet one but don't mind sweet things such as apricots in savoury style dishes.  
  6. I tried to learn the guitar years ago but I have quite small hands [:(] I felt as though I was about to dislocate my wrist just to play a simple cord and  I ended up with deep grooves on on my finger tips too. Did it get any easier?
  7. Proper cornish pasties , best one I ever tried was from a bakery in Fowey , superb. Stew - lamb or beef, with fluffy dumplings. Treacle sponge ( treacle as in Golden Syrup)  
  8. Um thanks I think. It's not something that I was looking to do but feel that it could be taken the wrong way if I refused. It should help my French improve if not their English [:P]
  9. I saw a picture on the internet of an andouillette and it looked like a dismemembered body part ! That was enough to put me off. I do like black pudding but haven't found a french version I really enjoy yet.
  10.   Thank you, I will have a look at those sites . Having never taught English as a foriegn language or indeed as any language, I want something that is not going to confuse me or them [:D] Something straight forward and logical that doesn't get  bogged down in grammar too soon.
  11. I have been asked if I can teach English to some adults and children , which I have said I will do [8-)] Can any one recommend any cheap teaching and learning materials / ideas suitable for all ages? Or a book for me on where / how I should start?  
  12. I have seen those things, Cassis but never tried them. I will eat most of the animal as long as I can eat it in 5 minutes, I just object to still chewing on something after 1/2 an hour !   Katie, do you do onion sauce with your lamb, I love that!

I hope this isn't going to be judged as going too far off topic, but I have found a lot of processed meat products in France to be of dubious quality, by that I mean a lot of bits added that should be thrown out. I hate gristle or chewy fat and for years I couldn't eat sausage, mince or burgers in the UK because of it, but after the mad cow scare, things improved but it still seems that a lot of grot finds its way into French meat products.[+o(] I remember that sketch by Caroline Ahern when she was working on a check out and on scanning a packet of rissoles, she said something akin to 'you don't want to eat them full of eye holes, ear holes and a**  holes'.
  14. Are they working it this year?  We were told that last year a strike was held on that day, so  this day of  working and giving money away  was prevented.
  15. Is it difficult to get permission to build other houses on land where a house exists already? I don't want to submit an application to build a house but would like to sell a section of my garden off as building land. Is permission likely to be granted? How do I do it? What costs are involved? and  the tricky one, how long should it take? Thanks

Would this happen in UK[/quote]   Possibly, even if you are a British citizen if you have been living in France for more than a year, you need to have health cover just to visit the UK. Therefore, it is possible that a UK doctor may check your documents to make sure you are covered before treating you.
  17. I'm sorry but I was so pleased at being able to include the cost of the kitchen as an allowable cost, I  didn't quite catch why [:$] She did mention something about 'plus value' but said that didn't apply either. I will try and find out why on my next visit and report back.  
  18. Been to notaires today and in our circumstances this is an allowable cost ,so surprised and pleased.
  19. I watched Thalassa last Friday and saw how the US sank an old war ship off the coast of Florida to create an artificial reef. [:(] I think the programme stated that  it would have just cost  13 (?) million dollars to have it scrapped properly so it was decided to sink it to create somewhere useful for divers! It still has dangerous things on board but apparently they are safely sealed ( at least until the metal corrodes) I wonder if the same fate might befall the Clemenceau either accidentally or otherwise? I do hope not.

  22. I had a letter in with my bank statement offering me the chance to bank online , yes they are just getting round to using technology [:-))] BUT I have to pay € 3 every month for the privilege!
  23. Not just that, Cathy but every official that I have met so far, insists on by passing me and dealing with my husband. I am sure that even in the posters wife went into the Notaire's with a sackful of money, they would still address everything to her husband if he is present.  I remember reading a post  some time ago to the effect that a married woman doesn't really exist in her own right in France.
  24. The only way round it that I can think of is that you get your wife to buy the house in France totally in her name. Transfer the money from her own bank account in the UK to her own bank account in France to pay for it. Try and keep out of the process and out of the Notaires office ! I would not for one minute suggest this is fool proof  and obviously you seek professional advice before you do anything .   Sorry Chris, you managed to get your thoughts together quicker than me !
  25. Lakeland plastics do a whole range of yoghurt making kits. I haven't tried these kits but I do like  their website [:)]
