  1. He is meant to be working as a graduate engineer, having got his Masters in Engineering with Hons. The contract was for two years training, and then, We don't know!!
  2. The vetting is meant to be done by P.P.P.A. People Pay and Pensions Agency. He had to give details of all the places he has lived for the past five years when he went for the interview, he was at university from 2003 - 2007 and spent all his holidays here with us in France. He has been with us since he graduated in 2007, to help us with our renovation business. but they haven't even sent out the questionnaires he was told that he would receive. I feel that there has been a distinct lack of communication somewhere along the line, but don't know who to contact. What do you suggest?
  3. My son had an interview at the beginning of December with a company who source candidates for the M.O.D.He was told that he had been successful just before Christmas, subject to security checks. He was due to go on an induction course in two weeks time, but was contacted today and told that, as he had been living in France for the past year, they could not do the security checks!! What can we do?
  4. I have been looking for a new fridge/freezer and found one on the Armenager site. The main print says 100% en stock. I placed my order last week, paying with my bank card. This week I received an e-mail stating that the goods would arrive within 60 days!!! They referred to their terms of sale and said that the order cannot be cancelled, is this right? They have already got my money!! Is there no "cooling off" period in France? Is there anything I can do?
  5. We went to the Puy du Fou, in the Vendee last night and our tickets only allowed us to sit on the steps that were the access routes to the seating. I know that this wouldn't be allowed in England, but here? The tickets were all the same price, whether seated or on the steps. The price was queried at the time of booking but our friend was told that there was no reduction because, if the steps were cheaper, everyone would wait until the last minute to book! Surely there is a big safety issue here?
  6. Are there any regulations regarding muck spreading? A friend of mine seems to think that there are times that muck is allowed to be kept in piles in the fields, namely December and January, but it seems unlikely to me! I presume that muck spreading (and the ensuing smell!) is allowed at any time of the year, but would just like to check before I put her straight!
  7. Thanks for the prompt reply, I planted the hedge about one and a half metres from the road edge, as I had been told that there must be enough room for a car to take evasive action without running into it!!
  8.  In 2002, I planted a laurel hedge as a boundary on a small triangular piece of land in front of our house. There is a road that runs up each side.  Some weeks ago, my neighbour asked us to cut it lower, as he said it obstructed his view of the road when driving, this is not the case as he only has a small Renault, so, unless it was cut right down, it would make no difference! There is no problem with visability of the road, which is a minor country one.We trimmed the whole thing , it is about four feet at the moment, but he has just cut some of it right back to the main stem on the point of this triangle, and trimmed some other parts back hard as well, is that allowed? Should I go to the Marie? We are not living in the house at the moment as we have another about 2 kms away, so cannot watch what is happening all the time! Any advice gratefully received.
