  1. Hi all, sorry if this has been covered but can't find the answer to my question. i have a full UK license and I am thinking of taking a trip back to blighty. Am I able to drive legally with my UK license or do I need to change to a French one. All the info I have found seems to contradict itself, ie if the license was issued in European union etc then it is not neccessary to change (had a look at the posting further down the page re the Rhone), yet DVLA says different (unless I am looking in the wrong place!) I have also emailed the Embassy, but no one has yet replied!! If anyone has a definitive answer and the links to the relevant website etc it would be greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance Jetlag
  2. Hi Panda Thanks for your reply. I am a micro bic so should pay 45% of my revenue after deductions (as explained when I registered), which has in fact turned out to be 52.2%!! Will post the outcome of my meeting next week. Thanks again Jetlag
  3. Thanks Mrs H, I was on their website today but it was 'down' for maintenance so will try again tomorrow. Like you say, no code, no order!! Thanks again Jetlag
  4. Apologies if this question has been answered before, but couldn't find the info on a search. My question is about the RSI calculate the CSG/CRDS revenue for the 8% calculation for registered micro. All the info I have received from RSI and chambre of commerce was the 8% was charged on your actual revenue (after the relevant tax allowances ie bic etc), However, I have been told that the calculation is based on the revenue total plus what has been paid in cotisations in the relevant tax yr, giving a higher amount for the 8% to be based on. (resulting in surprise bills) I have also been told that the contribution isn't 45% but 48%!! I have tried searching the RSI site and impots to try and find some sort of clarification on how the calculations are done, but to no avail. As I said at the beginning, all the info I have read, been told etc prior this latest info was 45%. Given my new bill, it appears I have actually paid 52.2% which was based on varying revenue 'basis'. I have a meeting booked with the chap from the RSI to try and get it explained, as it doesn't seem quite right to me, Hope this makes sense!!! Many thanks in advance Jetlag
  5. Many thanks maricopa and sueyh for your speedy replies. Been here a while so will be onto ameli.fr tomorrow, thanks again Jetlag
  6. Hi Sorry if this has been covered before, but can anyone tell what the French equivalent of the EHIC is for travelling to the UK and where and how to get one, Many thanks in advance Jetlag
  7. Hi I have bought cards which have messages already printed on a seperate piece of paper which you can copy, I have found them to be quite helpful and my friend who is French told me they were quite acceptable to send to friends. Hope this helps Jetlag

  10. Hi Sometime ago there was mention that in September the law was to change regarding the FIMO. The last info I saw said the law change would mean that if you held a current class1 HGV license from the UK then this would be valid in France without taking the FIMO from end September this yr. I was wondering if anyone had heard anymore on this or if it was just a 'flash in the pan' statement . Any advice/links greatly received, thanks in advance Jetlag
  11. Hi everyone, I am thinking of getting an auto doser for the chlore, ph and algicide and thought I would ask the 'collective brain' if anyone has one at the moment or used in the past or know of someone who has one of the following auto dosers. Its the REVA 3 COOL system by Mareva and although I have had a look on ther internet, I thought I would ask if anyone has first hand experience of them. They seem quite reasonable on price at just below 1500e for the unit. I am almost ready to take the plunge as it were after thinking about them for a while! Any advice/info greatly received, many thanks in advance Jetlag
  12. Hi We used a French tree surgeon to cut down 3 trees, (one of which was close to the house) and do some serious pruning to four other very large trees and it cost under 900e.  It was a professional team who were equipped with harnesses etc and it took less than one afternoon.  They are in the Charente Maritime and I don't know if they will travel to where you are, but I wouldn't hesitate at all in recommending them.  Hope this helps with your 'quotes' and if you want their contact details, just drop me a PM. Jetlag
  13. Hi LyndaandRichard Thanks for your reply, unfortunately I don't have a live box and it is a 'standard' broadband connection so will need the disc.  The reason I am asking for info is I recall when vista was launched there was something that had to be done but cannot remember what [:-))] Will try and contact Orange today, thanks again Jetlag
  14. Hi everyone, hope someone can help. Are there any conflicts with windows Vista and the 'old' Wanadoo now Orange that anyone has come accross please?  I still have the original installation disc and use the adsl modem supplied by FT in 2005, what sort of complications can I expect when I try to install it onto 'Vista' or is there already a solution/download available via orange.  I have had a look at their site but I am unable to find any info.  Any help and advice will be greatly received, I will be 'performing' the installation over the weekend (getting a shiny new laptop...lucky me[:P]) so looking to overcome possible problems before hand.  Many thanks in advance Jetlag
  15. Many thanks Anton, yes it is during the night but its the whole rocade so no access to jcn 11b!!  Thanks for your directions, I will print them off and try it out on Friday night, Jetlag
  16. Hi everyone, I will try and keep a long story short!  Last autumn, we had we had a tree surgeon round to trim our very large trees and as a result, two baby torterelles (if thats how its spelt!) fell from their nests.  Anyway, birds were saved and I placed them in a large plant pot, packed out with vegetation for nesting, tied very high up in the tree, the parents 'found' them and fed them etc and they are fine even now (still here)  My problem is, they are nesting in the gutters, which is a problem when it rains and they lose their eggs.  All the other torterelles nest in the trees and if see them starting to build a nest I try and scoot them to the trees.  Suffice to say, they have succeeded again in nesting and laying an egg.  Is this normal behaviour or is it as a result of putting them in the plant pot??  I know I cannot move it now, but any advice will be greatly received.  I know they are the same pair as one of them had an injury during the fall from the tree last yr, and are quite happy to come quite close to me. Many thanks in advance and sorry for rambling on[:P]!! Jetlag
  17. Hi everyone, hope someone can help!! I have just got back from an airport run to Merignac in Bordeaux and need to go again on Friday night to pick up from the airport but there are road works on the Rocade and it is going to be closed from 8pm to 6am from jcn 9 to jcn 13 up until mid/end July!!!  Does anyone know of a route to the airport from exit 9 thats quite easy to follow or has anyone experienced the 'deviation' please, any help greatly received, in the mean time I will have a look at auto route, many thanks in advance Jetlag
  18. Hi Catrina,  If it helps, I too have had both my first and second yr cotisations re calculated based on estimated turnover.  The chap told me that if I paid too much then I would get a refund but also, if my turnover exceeded the 're calculated figure' then I would receive a bill for the difference.  It's one of those situations if you 'don't ask' you don't get, but if memory serves, it is also mentioned  in the leaflet that comes with the cotisation bill for the year, that you can have the figure re calculated.  Good luck with getting it sorted Jetlag
  19. Yes I am Clair, so was surprised they are all brown!  But will try cutting them back and see what happens, thanks for your reply Jetlag
  20. That's it.............the cold!! Thanks Ron for your quick reply. I thought they were hardy for the winter, obviously not[:-))]  Will cut them back like you have advised and see what happens, but I think they are probably in the great garden in the sky now[:P].  Thanks again Jetlag
  21. Hi all Looking to pick the collective brain to try and find out what has happened to my laurier bushes (if thats how its spelt!) .  I bought 12 last spring and planted them, all was well, plenty of flowers and well watered and fed.  However this spring, they have all shrivelled and gone brown and are now dead!!!  They are positioned in the sun, get plenty of water and are at the side of a vineyard.  It's my third attempt at planting a 'screen' at the end of the garden and its now getting quite expensive[:-))]  I don't know if its the moles that have eaten through the roots or just bad luck, any advice would be greatly appreciated and if anyone can recommend a quick growing bush that will grow at the end of a garden in full sun next to a vineyard it would also be greatly appreciated[:)] Many thanks Jetlag
  22. Many thanks Clair for your prompt reply, will start searching through the links[:D] Jetlag
  23. Hi, Apologies if this has been covered, but can't find answers!!  Has anyone had any claification for the new changes regarding the Micro Enterprise??  I have been to the Impots who say gites now have to have a  touristic classification (GdeF etc) yet the chamber of commerce tell me 'what changes??' no changes here, come back in August!  Now I know for the declaration for 2008in 2009 is still at the old rate, but 2009 in 2010 will be at the new rate of 50/50, so I am wanting to sort it out sooner rather than later as it also affect the RSI contributions which are already sky high! Do I need to go to the prefecture for a rating, jolly down to the Mairie or where???  No one I have spoken to seems to know.  Will keep chipping away at the impots site and post anything usefull I may come across, but if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.  If it helps I am a registered micro entreprise professional. Thanks For Clair, I note from one of your postings that you had an inspection by the prefecture, can I pick your brains and ask what it involved and any costs etc if possible, many thanks in advance[:D]   Jetlag
