    guinea pigs

Hello, does anyone know if there are any forms or injections that guinea pigs have to have to take them into France. They are very young. Thank you.
  2. Hello,  We have just starting the process of buying a house in SW France.  We want to have a survey done because most french houses are so old (and beautiful).  We have been quoted £1600 .  Is an architect over there as good as having a survey.  We are getting a few mixed messages over this.  Can anyone suggest someone in the Monflanquin area south of Bergerac. Thanks for any help.

    carte vitale

Hello.  We are in the process of purchasing a small gite business which is already up and running.  For the first few months my husband will be continuing with his job in England and I will be living in France with the children.  My husband will be paying tax in England .  Can we still apply for our Carte Vitales  while he is working and getting paid in England, as we really want to get into the French system as soon as possible.  Any information will be very appreciated.
  5. Thanks for all your advice. It will give me a headstart sourcing some literature. The hard part, of course, will be getting no. 1 son to pay for it. He thinks he's hard done by, having to pay his mum housekeeping . Preston
  6. We are a family of five who are relocating to the Gers area as soon as our property here is sold. Along with all the usual anxieties of such a move our no.1 son who is nearly 20 and has served an apprenticeship in H.G.V. mechanics seems to think he will have little problem working in france. But he will need a bit more than his schoolboy french to get by in a workshop, so does anybody know of a dictionary aimed at mechanics like there are for people who use builders merchants. Either that or he will have to sit and translate part and tool names from a dictionary, probably a week before we go. thank you preston
  7. Thankyou Ronnie and Patf for taking the trouble to reply. I am actually Nicola, Prestons wife who is writing on the forum.   My husband is quite certain that a French school is the way to go, it is me who has the doubts.  However, after reading the forum for hours I think the answer for my son is a small local school.  Knowing him as I do he would not cope in a very large school.  He is quiet but hard working. We have been on a site that shows all the schools in Gers.  It is now time to pick  through them, contact them and see what kind of response we get.  We are definitely going to be there by the summer and cant wait.  Will let you know how we get on.
  8. Thankyou for replying Polly.  It sounds as though you are a little apprehensive as well.  I know this move is the right thing for our family and that when they have settled in they will love it but as a mum I do worry about their happiness. I dont know if finding a school over there with at least one other english child is the right thing or not as I have read so many conflicting things on this forum.  I think we will just have to make a choice and hope it is the right one.  Good luck with your move too.
  9. Hello, Can anyone help please.  It has been a dream for 8 years to move to France and we are now going to do it. We are hoping to be in Gers by the Spring.  The only worry I have is my 13 year old boy.He has come round to the idea but schooling is really bothering me.  I really like the french way of life and the people, but as an adult I do not have the worry of fitting in at school.  We have thought of sending him to an international school but then he will not make friends where we live.  We are doing everything we can to help, private french lessons are obviously going to help.  Is there anyone in Gers who has teenagers in school who are happy and where the school is sympathetic to the needs of English children. We like the whole region so location is not the issue. Thankyou.
  10. From Nicky Thankyou to those who replied.  It was good to get other peoples views.  Is there anyone in the South Dordogne area who has a child in a college who is happy and progressing well.  This is the area we want to move to and to make contact for him with someone already there is going to be a great help.  Please reply if you live in this area. Thankyou.
  11. Hello, Our family want to move to France (Dordogne) by the end of this year. I know my 9 year old daughter is going to be fine.  She is bubbly and outgoing and makes friends very easily.  As a mother, my only real concern is my son.  He has just turned 13.  Some of you must be horrified that we would uproot him now .My husband says he will settle in time.  We are sending them both for private french lessons, as I want them as fluent as possible but are we still expecting too much of him.  How do we find the right school that has a few english children already and teachers that are used to dealing with foreign children settling in.  If we don't do the move now the time will never be right until they have both finished their education totally.  To me finding the right school is the most important thing for a happy move and find a house in that catchment area.  Am i right or not?  My husband set this up for me, my nmae is Nicky not Preston.
