1. I bought some satin finish in Brico-Depot. Perfectly matched the acrylique emulsion on the walls. Lovely finish, and reasonably priced paint.
2. A good chance it's a lerot, but not conclusive. Bit of a bushy tail like a squirrel?
3. A photograph or three would be of immense use. My first thought was cricket also. How many pairs of wings? Antennae? Eye size, colour and position? Leg barbs? Relative lengths of head, thorax and body? Better still, photographs.
4.
All that has changed is that French registrations now stay with the vehicle for its lifetime in France...
That wasn't the case with my tractor last week - unless agricultural/vintage vehicles are assessed differently (not that it mattered to me.)
5.
Anyone lend me a bucket big enough to put our steel double gates in pretty please. I got a battery charger![8-)]
I know this was posted a while ago, but steel reinforcing rods in the ground to support four old floor boards - line with thick polythene and fill with water. You now have a shallow paddling pool. Dose with washing soda (sodium carbonate), and use a DC - repeat DC - welder output. Large scale de-rusting. Tons on Google and Youtube about it.
6.
They are electro-zinc plated and not passivated.
So that would mean grinding it off to get back to the original bare metal... Think I'll go to a scrappy and get some plate/bar. Thanks for the input, peeps. Cheers [:D]
7.
DO NOT use stainless anodes. These produce a chemical byproduct which I cant remember offhand ...somethingsomthinghexachromate or similar. It is very, very poisonous.
Yes, it can produce a toxic mix, but then other scientists have found it harmless in solution as it combines further with hydrogen. Either way, I would only use it - as I said - at a push. The jury is still out on that one.
8. Don't know if this would have been better in arts and crafts, but... I'm experimenting with electrolysis to de-rust metals and vehicle parts. The anode should be mild steel/iron ideally (or stainless at a push). I don't have plate lying around, but I do have quantities of rail/montant offcuts from plasterboarding. Does anyone know what the bright coating is on these sections? It's not galvanised (not as I remember galvo.,) so could it be very thin stainless? Suggestions welcome. Cheers [:)]
9. Commonly called a cri-cri. Quite harmless, being a cricket. Now here's a cri-cri with a difference - the smallest twin-engined aircraft. Saw it at Couhé. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7voiv_le-mc15-cricri_sport
10. I typed in google chrome, pressed enter, and Firefox crashed! Did it know?
11. Gravel averages out about 1.6 tonnes per cubic metre. From there it's easy to work out: 10m x 7m x (say) 5cm x 1.6 = 3.5t 8cm depth will give you about 5.6t.
12. Looking good! Went to the Préfecture in Niort this morning and got my re-registration CG. Painless, although there were 20 in the queue in front of me... Have you tried visiting in person? There may be someone at a reception desk that can explain what's what and then do it all the paperwork whilst in there. But take ID and proof of residence, and a means of payment. Cheers
13. I've just bought a vintage diesel tractor (56 Major.) Even here, it's recommended a maximum of 50:50 mix. Apparently, heating oil burns hotter than road or 'farm' diesel (perhaps because it's not compression/ignition - sais pas.) I was speaking to a guy the other day who's just been landed with a €3000 bill for engine repairs to his car. He was using neat heating oil... Not worth it, methinks.
14. Many thanks. I'll work on that. It would be a shame to lose it. Cheers
15. The ruler is 45 cm for scale. The palm was repotted and moved last year, and now enjoys full sun. But, the new leaves don't come out very far before starting to open. They also look sick. We've tried not to let it dry out too much, but neither has it been over-watered. We've been told that palms such as these don't like being moved, but strewth, they move 50 footers in Spain! Could it be pot-bound? Thanks for any suggestions.

Scam

It sure has all the hallmarks.
17.
... or is it leaving as a small flying beatle.?
Nah. The Beatles split up years ago.
18. Ah, the old annealing ploy! Thanks for the info. I'd like to see a plumber practicing his craft in that fashion.
19.
1f brazing then simply insert the smaller size into the larger ie 15mm into 16mm
Doesn't 16mm pipe have an ID of 14mm? How will a 15mm OD pipe fit in that? Or have I missed something? [:)]
20. I've been noting when my VOIP goes down - more often than not it's about a quarter to the hour. And Friday it was halfway through a banking transaction. [:@]
21.
I recently bought an old tractor which I am renovating.
What have you got? I've just agreed to buy a '55 Fordson Major from near Cognac - owned by a viticulteur for the last 30 years and used weekly. Good runner and can't wait to get it back.
22. Very many thanks for your help. I'll study those documents with interest. Cheers. [:)]
23. I'm looking at buying a pre-1960 tractor (usual suspects) for rallies etc. Assuming there is no CG (or one has been lost), what hoops may I have to jump through to get one for road use? Any idea of costs? The other option would be to haul it to events on a friend's trailer, but then miss out on road runs... Cheers
