1. Having driven my Twingo in the Uk for almost 6 years (with a MPH speedo reading), I was always under the impression that it had to read in mph in this country. From http://tinyurl.com/3y8ngrs Imperial Speedometer Great Britain uses imperial units for speed measurement. The law requires that speedometers must include a miles-per-hour display. Please note in particular that any modified display must be visible in daylight and in darkness. Markings may be added to the existing speedometer provided they are: accurate; durable; can be seen clearly in daylight and when the instrument is lit during darkness.
2. I've just returned from the Bressuire races. Another fantastic day. Nice to see some different cars as well as some familiar ones. I hope this event will continue for many years to come.
3. Popped down there yesterday evening and it was busy then. Will be back there again this morning. Quite a few new cars taking part this year, and a few more British drivers taking part as well.
4. My father has his electric back on, but the phones are still down, and the mobile has been a bit erratic. He's actually just outside Chiche
5. Thanks. Will try him again this evening and see what the damage is.
6. Anyone know how North Deux Sevres faired? Tried to contact my father (near Bressuire) by phone last night with no response, so I assume the power is off.
7. Yes, I know that way, I always go up towards the square when turning left to go towards Bressuire. But even that way is difficult with the amount of traffic on the main road.
8. I think my father would prefer it if it went north of Chiche, otherwise it could end up being behind his house...!! Anyway, with the duel carriageway up to Bressuire almost there (is there a completion date for this yet?), it would make sense to continue and carry on down towards Parthenay. And yes, it does need it. Trying to turn left onto the N149 is a nightmare at the moment.
9. With All Saints Day falling on a Sunday this year, does anyone know if the following Monday (2nd November) is classed as a bank holiday in lieu, or is the holiday just on the actual day regardless of what day it falls on. Thanks.
10. I remember being in Caen Ferryport prior to the D-Day anniversary celebrations in 2004, and there were letters on all the cars, saying that the car park need to be cleared by a certain date, for the celebrations. As there were a large number of possibly abandoned UK reg cars, if they were cleared, then they were probably disposed of.
11. Is this road now open fully? The latest Michelin printed map shows the proposed route of the continuation of the road onto Bressuire, looking like it merges into the current bypass, rather than joining the roundabout at the end of the bypass Although this would make sense, I don't know how accurate this is!
12. Thanks all for the responses.  I did look at Pages Jaunes, but wasn't 100% sure that I was looking at the right thing....!
13. Does anyone know the names of any breakers yard in Deux Sevres?  I need to get a replacement rear bumper for my Twingo, and it will be cheaper to try and get one from there next time I am over, rather than have one shipped over to the UK. The only one I know of is Bressuire Recup Auto at St Sauvier.  I did e-mail them a while ago to ask if they would let me know if they had or knew of any in the correct colour, but haven't had any response as of yet.
14.
And no Poole/Cherbourg sailings for most of January and beginning February 09. Anyone know why? Refit of Barfleur I guess
Yes, I believe the Barfleur is in for refit this winter.
15. The winter timetable (up until mid March 2009) is now on the website. There are no Plymouth-Roscoff sailings from early January until mid February - when the new Armorique comes into service.
16.
The road appears to be have been all finished for a while now, but the whisper is that the DDE expect it to open in the 3rd trimestre of 2008...... It will go from the A87 autoroute interchanger at Tessoualle and finish at the D33 north of Le Pin.  The bit to Bressuire- and onwards to Poitiers - hasn't been started yet...[:(]
Are you infering that the road will continue from the other end of the Bressuire bypass - bypassing the current main road from Bressuire to Parthenay?  It would be good if it did, as trying to turn left onto that road at Chiche can be a nightmare with all the lorries! I'm looking forward to the Cholet-Bressuire road opening, as it should cut a good 15 minutes off my current journey down from Roscoff, and it also means that once the road reaches Bressuire, then the road down from Roscoff is virtually dual carriageway for the whole distance.  I won't be back down there untl next year, so it should be open by then!
17. Sounds like it's more to do with the specific model rather than the manfacturer.  Looks like the SRi model was solely for the UK market.  I've done a search for Opel Vectra SRi on Google and it only came up with cars for the Irish market. I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple of Vauxhalls in the past that have been re-registered on french plates.
18. Shouldn't have to.  It says it can be seen by anyone - even non facebook members. However, looks like I may have put the wrong link in - try this one: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=42358&l=e7fbc&id=651857026
19. Finally got around to adding a few more pictures - including some of the classic cars that were displayed in Place St Jacques: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=42358&id=651857026&ref=mf
20. Does anyone know about Celtorg beer?  It was sold under the E Leclerc Marque Repere brand.  It came in a pack of 12 and was a slightly stronger beer than the usual stuff sold in the packs of 24. I last got it about three years ago now and all the Leclerc's I've been in since haven't had it. Does anyone know what happened to it?
21. During the afternoon, I was stood on the corner of the Chicane de Square watching them come past the station, around the square then up to the chicane by the entrance to Place St Jacques and they were really hammering it going up the hill.  The english guy in the AC Cobra almost lost it at one point, you could see him taking it alot more steady after the rain!
22. Just realised I hadn't posted to say what a fantastic event this was.  I will certainly plan my trip to Deux Sevres next summer to coincide with this event, assuming it goes ahead next year. I did look out for people, but it was so busy (and deservedly so), that I wasn't able to spot anyone. Here are a few pictures that I took.  I may add a few more later on: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=42358&l=e7fbc&id=651857026
23. Excellent, thanks. I shall be there somewhere along the route with my camcorder!
24. Well, I would imagine this is definately on, as the positon markings on the road by Place St Jacques have been repainted, and grandstands, lights and a clock have been erected! Does anyone know, or post a link to show, what roads the demenstrations are being run on?  Are they just on the roads around Place St Jacques, or do they go further afield?
25. Does anyone know the exact route for the rally this weekend.  I'm looking forward to arriving in Deux Sevres tomorrow afternoon!
