1. When we moved in April of last year, we notified Wanadoo a few months before, and they told us, we should notify them a few days before the move, and it will be done in a week. This we did. Three weeks later, and endless phone calls to wanadoo and FT (each blaming each other, and someone actually telling me i had to change my adsl filters every 6 months), we still had no adsl, and had to go to our nearest FT office and make a big fuss. Two days later we were up and running.
2. How can you do those kind of calculations unless you are clairvoyant and know what the price of oil will do in the next 20 years? My guess it's going one way only!!! Steve
3. Being Irish or British makes no difference...both EU countries!
4. Poland have just rejected. Saw it on www.tf1.fr. Steve
5. Sounds like a cement/lime mix used to strengthen walls. It's literally blown onto the wall using a compressor, so it get's in deeply between the stones. I'm not sure how you'd get rid of it, but I'd be careful as it's probably been put up to strengthen the wall. You could dry line that wall, and leave the other walls exposed. Is it an exterior wall?
6. Czech Republic and Cyprus have agreed, but Poland have asked for a few more days to think about it, because of the roof collapse disaster in Poland.
7. We  moved our cat from Malta (at the time not in the EU), to France, and then six months later to UK. We just walked in at the airport, and were not challenged, but we had done some injections/official papers beforehand, but I can't remember what they were?
8. I can vouch for handball. Have been playing it for a long time now, and it's great fun. You say : 'I can't believe that this is a huge sport here', perhaps what you should say, 'Why isn't it big in the UK?' It's the second most popular team sport in Europe after football. Huge in Germany and Scandinavia, but very popular just about everywhere else except the UK. I don't know where you are, but the clubs around here look after the kids very well, and there isn't any snobbery that I can see!!!
9. I'm sure someone else will know the definitive answer, but I'd be very surprised if you can do this with out a lot of red-tape, if at all. Deux Serves is one of the regions with water shortages. I stress this is just a guess.
10. I didn't want to sound ungrateful, I'm glad for any information. That's why I asked!
11. yes, I have a digital stb with a fixed dish, but this is all temporary right now and will have to come down, and either be moved, or scrapped, and my original question was more to do with TNT, and nothing to do with sat. I know what's available with sat, what is FTA and what is pay and which sat to point at.
12. how well insulated is your house? Maybe you're contributing to global warmimg, rather than heat your house!
13. It's actually my wife who insists on having the minimum number of boxes. But she also wants all the channels, and the ability to record one channel, while watching another. A dual TNT tuner in a media PC would be my first choice (I could also put dual anologue tuners in there!) I could then have all tuners/recorders etc etc in the one box would be ideal
14. I also have moved to Firefox, and would never go back!
15. I realize nothing is certain, I just want to make an educated decision, which involves the least cost, the best quality, and the least amout of boxes and wires!
16. Have you tried running something like AdAware or Spybot?
17. Two questions : 1) Can you get TF1 on Atlantic Bird? 2) I have heard that this is only temporary? Is that true? Steve
18. The Mayor is pretty clued up technology wise, and is very helpful. so I'll check with him and the neighbours
19. To be honest I already have a sat dish installed, but I would like to get the french terrestrial channels, and I guess there are four options. 1) Analogue over an aerial. 2) Digital over an aerial 3) Analogue over a sat (Atlantic Bird 3 degrees west, but not guaranteed to stay there!) 4) Digital Sat with either TPS or Canal Sat. I'm just trying to find out what will be the easiest, with the least amount of boxes and wires.
20. I second what Carol said, it can be very painful in the beginning. It took us about 2 weeks to get it up and running, because Wanadoo were waiting for FT and FT were waiting for Wanadoo. Telephone support was woeful ("Have you changed all your filters, because they need changing every six months!", or so we were told! Luckily, I know a little more than your average ADSL user, and told them so!) Be patient, and perhaps got to a FT office, and get things sorted out there if it takes to long!
21. I don't actually have an aerial at present, and I'm asking the question because if I can't get TNT, I'll switch to satellite, rather than go analogue. I have tried that process you mention, and our village is not mentioned. A few of the adjacent villages are mentioned and they are covered by the Bordeaux Bouliac transmitter. I will speak to the mayor, and ask him, he usually knows what's going on within his village. Maybe he knows someone who's installed a system! Thanks for the info
22. Is there anyway I can tell if we are covered by TNT transmission? I have checked the website, and we appear to be right in between two transmitters (Niort and Bordeaux). Apart from buying a box and trying it out, is there any other way of knowing? Steve
23.
I am able to get on line and acess the Internet and have received the Livebox though the post a few days ago. But I seem unable to get on to the Broadband service.
Are you connecting to the internet through a dial-up connection? Or have I misunderstood? Steve
24. I have to agree...I used to login once a day (see posts in last 24 hrs) or twice a day (see posts in last 12 hrs), and would only take a few minutes....now it seems to take forever! Steve
25. Did you semploy the architect for the plans only, or the whole process?
