1. We have a wood burning stove, new usual sort with glass front door.  When the fire cools down we get a lot of what seems like water or tar trickle out of the pipe and onto the floor below.  The burner was fitted with a tall pipe that goes through the wall to the chimney and joins another pipe from the aga in the kitchen next door before going up the chimney. Has anyone a clue why we should get this influx of tar/water.  Is there anything we can do about it? Many thanks
2. Can anybody tell me if you are resident in France but not working here do you need to fill in a tax return here anyway to declare that you are not earning anything? Can you also tell me what the web site address is so that I can download a form? Many thanks
3. Have just taken my staffie to the vets this morning for his rabies booster.  It is the same vet that I always use but they informed me today of what he needs to be able to live in France. He must be covered by insurance, registered at your local marie as he is classed as a category I dangerous dog and muzzled when in public. He must also be chipped, castrated and have had his rabies vaccinations - which he has. They told me that if the police stop you and you cannot produce the necessary insurance and vaccination papers that they will take him away from you. Hope this helps
4. We came over 2 1/2 years ago with our staffie and had no problems. After talking to our vet here he said that it is mainly in big cities where they have the problems with staffies as a lot of drug users have them.  They are supposed to be muzzled in public places, but we only take ours with us locally in the village or to local beaches or forests and have never had any complaints. As far as I know there are no restrictions to bringing them into france
5. We had six kittens born today.  I know they will not need homes until 8 weeks time but wanted to find out if there would be anyone interested in having one of them as we know kittens can be hard to find homes for. We have two ginger, one ginger with white, one white with patches, one black and one tabby. many thanks
6. Any of you ladies who have been pregnant in France.  When you have your first appointment with the gynaecologist he gives you a form to send off to CAF and CPAM.  You then wait to receive a Carnet de maternite from CAF which you take to each subsequent appointment. Can you tell me how long it takes for the Carnet de maternite to arrive after sending in the forms (area 50).  I sent mine in a few weeks ago and although I have heard from CPAM I have heard nothing from CAF. Many thanks
7.
There is a CAF office in Avranches, next door to CPAM. Other major towns should have one, you should be able to find your nearest in the phone book. However, have you tried the helplines? There is an...
Many thanks for your help.
8. Have any of you in Manche (area 50) had to fill in the above form issued by your gynaecologist to show you are pregnant? It then has to be sent to the Caisse d'Allocations Familiales to register you and so that check up costs can be reimbursed.  Does anyone know where this is in area 50? Any help would be great, thanks.
9.
We spent several days last week skiing in the Auvergne at Super Besse (which is only 20 minutes from our house). The vast majority of the cars parked there are obviously French, with a few Dutch and ...
We are staying in Montboudif over the holidays and are taking our children skiing for the first time at Super Besse.  We have arranged lessons and hope that we all have a great time. We are looking to move to the area this year, just waiting to sell our house.  This will be our 3rd visit to the area - we really love it! Did you hire skis?  We will need to hire skis for the kids and also organise lift passes - hope that we can find everything when we get there and that the weather is ok as it will probably be a 30 minute drive there every day.
10. It may sound silly, but after searching the pool topics, I have not found out how high the fencing should be around an in the ground pool. We have an above ground, but friends of ours have one in the ground and are looking to put up a fence. Can anyone enlighten me please, is it 1m? Many thanks
11. Can anyone help!! We are looking for a 3 month let of a house, at least 2 bedrooms, on the 63 and 15 borders. The let needs to start from beginning of December and possibly allow dogs and cats. We are in the process of selling our house and buying another and need this let as they will not coincide and we need to have a fosse septique, etc fitted before we can move in.

13. We are thinking of moving within France and have had our house almost two years now. If we go we will be making a profit on it. We have been told by some people that we will be liable for capital gains tax.  Why would this be if this is our main residence?
14. Can anyone let me know where the office is in St Lo as I need to register my E121 with the local sickness benefit office. Many thanks,
