  1. It applies to areas where there is a shortage of housing

    http://www.latribune.fr/entreprises-finance/industrie/biens-d-equipement-btp-immobilier/20141104trib6a46cf873/taxe-d-habitation-une-augmentation-de-20-pour-des-residences-secondaires.html

    in essence

  2. If you have something that might be deemed a business; for example a house with attached gites , fishing lake etc, your Notaire may well seek to apply capital gains tax to some of the proceeds.

It can be quite a murky area.

Friends who sold their house with three gites they had converted themselves from the attached barns had a very unpleasant surprise on the day before the final signing.

  3. Lots of info here on how to go about it.

Personally I believe that all the banks can be equally good or bad, but banking with Credit Agricole complicates things owing to their regional structure.

I think the same regionality can apply to Caisse D'Epargne and Banque Populaire.

Personally I would just choose the friendliest one with a bank near to your abode.

  4. You need to look out for the arrival of the tool wagon!

    PILON À POTEAU

    or

    Pilon belier a piquet poteau

Is what you are looking for.

They seem to cost 40- 80 Euros. So as the going rate for rental seems to be 15 Euros per day you might as well buy one!
  5. The agent who had been deprived of commission would turn to the vendor to make good the loss.

Any vendor will be fully aware of the litigious tendencies of French estate agents

That being the case most sellers would be reluctant to circumvent the agent in the situation described by the OP.
  6. This package would probably be cheaper than Canal+ at 199 Euros for the year.

Assuming that it's not blocked in France.

Incidentally it amuses me when I see the price of this package, for one sport, when I hear people getting worked up about either the French or UK licence fee!

  7. It looks to me as though at least 65% will be covered by Assurance Maladie itself rather than the complementaire, as long as you jump through all the right hoops.

As for the complementaire that would be down to the terms and conditions of your particular policy

  8. The regulations for public pools require them to be emptied and cleaned twice a year.

    and

    http://www.guide-piscine.fr/dangers-a-la-piscine/noyade-et-hydrocution/vidange-des-bassins-une-etape-obligatoire-352_C

I believe a public pool includes anything intended for use by more than one family.

  9. These appear to be the rules for the ordinary lotto, and I expect that the same would apply to Euromillions

  10. Why is the grant/refund being shown on the estimate?

I thought the norm was that you paid the full price then sent the bill off to whoever was going to give you the refund, and it was then up to them to work out the amount.

  11. I just noticed this; The Knowhow Mobile Wifi in the Currys Christmas catalogue.

    http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/phones-broadband-gps/mobile-phones-and-broadband/mobile-broadband/knowhow-mobile-wifi-10024034-pdt.html?intcmpid=display~RR

As I see it the benefit is that for £7.99 a month you get 1gb of data , or for £25.99 10gb of data.

You can change the subscription each month.

The excess usage charges aren't too excessive

You can use it in the UK or France you even get a free top of 10% in France

    It includes 4G where available.

    Seems pretty good all round.

It's actually the first thing I have ever seen in a Christmas Gift catalogue that looks even vaguely enticing!
