Hello
We are not far from the Charente-Charente Maritime borders and have 2 kids too. In the Charente, there is a skating rink in Cognac, or just north of Poitiers (Vienne 86) there is Futuroscope, or if the weather not too bad, Monkey Valley.
Over in Charente Maritime, there are 2 modern aquacomplexes (indoor swimming pools). The one in Jonzac is very good (Les Antilles) and also close to a casino with regular shows etc, and there is another in St Jean D'Angely. Then there is the Chateau D'Enigmes at Pons, with lots to do for children.

Hi all
Our hotel is a one star, 10 bedroom centrally located (centre of a small town) near Cognac. Does anyone have similar accommodation near ports or other areas of France which we could recommend to guests?

Also I forgot to add, a lady who teaches English to older kids here assured me in April, that she would be "fluent by Xmas, I promise".... and yes she really does let off steam after school as well, when they are both always starving hungry too!!!

Had to reply when I saw the post by Ormx, as it all sounds so familiar! My daughter (just turned 5) was a real chatterbox and considered very bright in England but found it really difficult when we arrived 7 months ago. I had to collect her at midday each day from Easter to the end of term, then she had 2 months to forget anything she had learned! Her personality really changed and she became "shy" though we knew the truth!
This term has been a lot better as she is starting to come out of her shell, and she and her younger brother play together using French words and her teacher commented recently that she now understands a lot; her brother (aged 3.5) chatters in class using Franglais.

Hi, wasn't sure where to post this, but here goes...... Any pointers about hosting our first kiddy party in France please? What do the children (and their parents) expect? Is it the normal 2 hours-ish as in the UK?Do they have goody bags or anything? Any advice on special games to play? Many thanks in advance

Well I was very impressed at Conforama, Angouleme on Monday where I was buying a TV. OK there was a long queue where you go to collect stuff... but there I spotted a bargain on display, a washing machine (reduced to 149 euros because of a small mark on the front). They quickly arranged for me to have a huge van on FREE loan that very afternoon! Fuel was included, I just paid a deposit. Only snag is that there is no warranty.(Formerly known as val_b)

Hi
I know a French guy who does this, hiring builders to actually do the work then selling the houses on. He makes around 30-40k euros after each one, but says the impots etc mean that he is only left with 10k for each house at the end of the day.
