1.
There are loads of places to hire scaffolding round Angers.  Bookmark Yellow Pages in English then put in 'scaffolding' and your dept number.  Repeat for 'skip hire'. Yellow Pages
Easy when you know how :) thanks
2. Hi Can anyone help with a diagram for wiring 2 way switching with intermediate switches, for hallway lighting ? And / or the wiring using teleruptors on the CU. regards
3.
The contracts seem to be roughly the same, as do the construction methods and materials ( as far as we can tell - we have seen similar properties in various stages of construction and to the untrained eye, they look about the same).
They will be the same, the same rubbish materials used in all french new builds. The difference in price might be the more expensive one actually mortars the blocks together rather than just standing one atop the other.
4. Hi I need to find someone to scaffold the front of a small house south of Angers, and also a skip for the some debris, if anyone roundabout the area knows of either I would be most grateful for the input. regards
5.
I hate to disagree with you Chris, but; a) The Ch de Metiers would ask why a roofer was selling eggs, especially as the Conjoint was obviously going to be running the business. They would insist that it was a different business.
The reason why is non of their business, and he can register at chambre of commerce for 100 euros and sell whatever he wants, whenever he wants. Can see all those artisans wifes queing down the local metiers office for the "stage", I dont think, ha ha ha
6. About 100 euros I understand.
7.
HI Just another little question to you experts out there!! Can you sell various different items on your market stall or are you limited to one category type? Also are there restrictions as to what you can sell? Thanks Phoebe
Anything you like, except cars and houses :) and as long as your chambre de commerce registration says ...Produit Divers
8. Hi Lots of information on the safety angles, So do you think the short pipe from the top would be sufficient? thanks
9. Hi Thanks for your very knowledgable reply, What about a compromise? since a pipe taller than the rad ( 1.5 m) would look out of place, a short length of pipe, say 10 - 15 cm, from the top of the rad with a bleed stop, so when its full I could drain off a little water so the pipe would have air in it and not the rad? cheers
10.
Probably, what I would do is to fit one pipe, only, to the return valve and make this an expansion pipe: run it upwards and fit a bleed-off valve and half-fill this standpipe, to ensure the rad is full, to bleed off air and to allow expansion into the pipe. Then all you will be doing is compressing the standing air.
Was with you right til this bit :) Would'nt the pipe always be full since the rad is 1.5 metres tall ? So is the point then to leave a little space for expansion? if so cannot I simply put a stop where the return valve should be, a bleed stop on top and a filler / drain plug on the inlet,  fill it up and leave a little air in it?
11. Hi The problem is theres not yours, you can do whatever you like its upto them to decide which category you fall into, at a guess I would suggest " Entretien Espaces verts " good luck,
12. Hi I have bought a bathroom radiator which connects to a regular central heating system, but that can also operate on electric alone. In the documentation it says, when using radiator in electric mode, never close the return valve. It is intended to be used purely on electric for the time being and at a later stage connected to a central heating system, so in the shop I asked if it was ok not to be connected to a system and run just as an electric radiator? they said yes that was ok, just fill it with water. Having thought about it and the reference to the return valve, should I actually pipe the inlet and return together? I suppose my real question is why should the return valve never be closed? is it to allow for expansion? any help advice appreciated
13. Hi To sell on a market you must register at the Chambre of Commerce, and obtain from the Sous-Prefecture a " Carte Permettant L'Exercice D'Activites Non Sedantaires" which is basically a market traders licence, as opposed to a shopkeepers licence. You must also have public liability insurance. When you turn up for a place on the market you need to produce the above 2 items or forget it. Since, after the mandatory cotisations of around 1000 euros per year, they are based on income so it shouldnt be an issue  regards
14. Water overdose, and death is possible but most unlikely, you would need to consume approx 50 litres.
15. Dont use a mobile phone,  unneccessary, but mobile blockers are great fun, and less than the average mobile phone :) and I have not heard any good about Orange that lives upto its publicity and ad campaigns!
16. Hi I dont understand why you agreed to a completion date when you knew you could not complete by that date? What I'm getting at is, you are only able to agree a date when you have mortgage offer. insurance or whatever else you need, sounds like the solicitors are to blame somewhere? Would be looking to recover any default payments from them! good luck!!
17. Hi If its a new house it has telephone points already installed, go into the nearest France  Telecom, they will connect the phone ( 55 euros or thereabouts ) while your there they can check to see if your location actually has Broadband / ADSL, if it has they will connect that as well with Wanadoo France, who has actually been taken over by that Orange outfit, but they promise the good service will not change!  regards Tim
18. If you register "Petit Travaux de Batiment" there is no reason you could'nt do all that, the registering is the tricky bit, you need an attestation from an employer or proof of self-employed activities for a period of 3 years, give or take. There is no concept in this country of "multiskilled" but they are getting the idea as more people demand it. The bottom line is, the system is not allowed by EU law to prevent you from earning a living if you want to carryout work you are experienced in, you do not need any qualifications from England they are not relevant here, ( I hasten to add this is the case in this dept).Infact in most cases it is easier for foreigners to register than natives, which can be problem when Hobby Bobby turns up with his dodgy references, but thats another issue!
19. Renovating volets, or repainting shutters, would be easier done in place, maybe not for an amateur, but then taking them down probably would'nt make much difference either :) Its the same as saying to refurbish window frames you would take them out first? Don't worry if he is a professional painter there should be no problem.! My only question would be, what caused you to think it might be?
20. Ty It is obvious you are finding this frustrating, what is it that you want to do? workwise I mean. You can register as "Petit Travaux de Batiment" which covers every trade.
21. Hi Dont really know where to post this, so here goes. I need to create a lake of around 500 m², firstly has anyone done this on a large scale? The questions I have are, anyone have any idea of the logistics of a project like this, how much earth needs to moved, best way to move it, how to stop the water draining away etc etc. My wife wanted to live near the river, we were unable to do this, so I thought ok lets have small lake, which might encourage some wildlife, stock it with a few fish etc. any comments appreciated
22.
Where are you sourcing at 10 cents each and for how many wires ?
Holland, 4 wires
23. Hi  I like the pushfit best, the screwon type can fall apart, I have found the metal coil can separate itself from inside the insulating cap, so I tend to avoid them now. The reason I asked the question was, that the Wago's are about 17 cents each and I can get others, not in France, for 10 cents each. thanks for your replies Tim
24. Hi Can anyone confirm if there are any regulations as far as wire connectors are concerned, I prefer fixed or free spring screwons or the push fit blocks. any comments appreciated
25. Hi It is a little difficult for anyone to make comment with so little background, but, if you know he is in breach of the contract, ie that he is acting outside of the specifics of the original agreement, tell him, and that you will not be requiring his services further, and leave it at that. Let him make the first move its the most expensive:) good luck
