Would an immobilier sell a static caravan?
Icebird replied to Icebird's topic in Finding/Owning French Property
Many thanks for the replies. I will follow up on the ideas now. -
I have a static on a nice site in Brittany and have been trying to sell it in the UK using private ads. As this has not been successful, I was wondering if I could sell it through an estate agent in the area local to the site. Has anyone seen mobile homes advertised by immobiliers? Has anyone done this successfully? Many thanks.

Many thanks to those who provided route and general information recently in response to my post. It was my first attempt using Speedferries to Boulogne and doing the long drive instead of BF from Plymouth to Roscoff. The route was virtually all autoroute. Having to run round the car to get the ticket at the peage was entertaining for those behind me - none of whom beeped - and the people taking the money must have grown longer arms reaching into Picasso's with change! The Hotel B&B was fine and easy to book both online and then by phone for the return. Speedferries was great value for money. Would I do it again? Not sure on my own as it was a lot of driving on top of 5.5 hours down to Dover but even with the diesel and two hotel nights I still saved over £80 on the BF fare. Thanks everyone. Ice

Boulogne to Quimper - route and accomm?
Icebird replied to Icebird's topic in Travelling to/from France
Hi Smiley Many thanks for the route and I'll look up the website. At the bottom of the route it shows a cost of £40-odd. How is that worked out? Ice -
Can anyone suggest the best route from Boulogne to Quimper, leaving Boulogne area on Sunday morning? Also a recommendation of a very easy to find overnight stop for the Saturday night would be great. We will have a 5-6 hour drive to Dover so want to stay over on Sat night and have a leisurely drive down on Sunday. It will be the first Speedferries trip for us as BF are just too pricey now. Many thanks.

I've just done the trip from East Midlands to Dinard with Ryanair. Didn't get my car from Hertz but found a decent deal over the net using carhire3000.com and the paperwork was done at the National Citer desk. The plane was full but there was no queue at that desk and we were out and off really quickly. Dinard is very small but has a pub/restaurant/snacks place upstairs (and a lift for the luggage) if you arrive early to check in on the way back. Both our flight left and arrived slightly early and I would have no hesitation using that route again. Even for a group of 4 plus car hire it was still cheaper/quicker then BF.

Car hire company recommendation needed
Icebird replied to Icebird's topic in Travelling to/from France
Many thanks for the replies. I'll see what Holiday Autos have to offer first. Ice -
Hello Can anyone recommend a car hire company operating out of Dinard Airport? There seem to be quite a few available but has anyone got local knowledge that might help? Many thanks.

Anyone got experience of owning a B&B in UK and France?
Icebird replied to Icebird's topic in B&B/Chambres d'Hôtes Owners
Thanks, Eslier. I need a bit more than pocket money so really need to put a proper business plan together and work out if I can afford to do it in either country. The problem is having the number of rooms to let and achievable occupancy rates means a decent size property in a good location and a serious amount of marketing i.e. a sizable investment. I am having a look at a couple of businesses in the UK this weekend to see what you get for your money. -
Anyone got experience of owning a B&B in UK and France?
Icebird replied to Icebird's topic in B&B/Chambres d'Hôtes Owners
Maybe my question was badly worded. I have the opportunity to change my life in the near future and am considering a B&B. (And yes I do understand about the work/hassles/commitment etc as I was brought up in the hotel trade). Being a single person, I can go where and when I want but don't know whether the rules and regulations in France would be more onerous than in the UK and as I would be going into the new venture on my own, would it be more sensible to stay in the UK. ( I do speak reasonable French and have been spending time in Brittany 3-4 times a year for the last 6 years.) Any comments? -
Merci. I will have a look at the site.

Can anybody recommend websites for advertising mobile homes sited in France? I wish to sell my caravan in Brittany (either for holiday/rentals or for use during renovations) but can't find a suitable site. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Thanks.

buying a static caravan holiday home
Icebird replied to rushs's topic in Finding/Owning French Property
Have sent you a PM today. -
I have had a Citroen Xsara Picasso from new and it's coming up to three years old. I've been very impressed by running costs (get 45-50 m.p.g. regularly) and the flexibility of the space in the back. The main reason for buying it was to take bikes inside the back (with a wheel off) plus everything needed for a long holiday in France. It certainly has done the job well and is very comfortable for both a short (I'm 5'2") driver or tall passenger (son who's 6'2"). Icebird

I'm travelling from Manchester to Brittany via ferry Plymouth-Roscoff on Monday 9th, coming back Sat 14th and was wondering if anyone wanted a lift in return for a diesel contribution? I'm a non-smoking female and would prefer another non-smoker. Get in touch quickly if interested. Ice

The only reason I haven't gone ahead and bought anywhere yet is because I'm on my own. I'd love to hear from others who have done it and their experiences. This is a really informative website and forum so adding the ability to 'talk' to others on their own would be the icing on the cake. Icebird

Can anyone give advice on the best way for two unconnected people to go about buying property together? We are both self-employed and want to buy a farmhouse plus barn, outbuildings to turn into two homes plus one or two gites. I am divorced with a son, my friend is married with a family. We wish to be near each other as my (builder)friend (and two sons) will do renovation/repair work on the property and I am the only French speaker. I also plan to move over permanently before the other family and will look after the property. Given our scenario and the availability of suitable property in the department we are interested in, we have decided that pooling our resources and buying one, multiple building property might be the answer, hence my question. Would an SCI be the answer in our situation or how else could we go about it? Thanks for any info. Icebird
