Free and no FT
Fewdyshen replied to Fewdyshen's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
It seems that the answer to most questions are somewhere on the Free site but they are very often well hidden. I have scoured the 'interface de gestion' pages and only found how to suppress our number etc. We have Siemens Gigaset phones linked to Freebox and only use Free. Another base station is plugged into FT and any calls to that go straight to voicemail - some friends and family forget to use the Free number. I had always assumed that the caller ID was courtesy of FT (by paying too) but now I realise that the numbers are displayed on a purely Free line. We've had the ID service from the days when we had an FT ISDN line............. yes, that long ago. The question remains as to whether it is foolish to give up the FT line. I'm all for it but cautious husband says that he is pro 'belt and braces'. Help me convince him!! It has been quite a few years since I needed the help of this forum. I had stopped looking at the questions as I'd been there and done it. Often trawl through the French forums (or fora if you prefer) but no one had asked these questions there. Thank you for coming to my aid!! -
Free and no FT
Fewdyshen replied to Fewdyshen's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
We use the caller ID to see which one of our 'friends' is calling - better to be forwarned........... Did turn on the reject anonymous calls but then our doctor couldn't get through (he has an anonymous number!). I had searched through the Free telephone options and couldn't find one for the ID. Have kept the FT line as people have had problems when their lines were down but after 10+ years in France I don't really remember there being a problem. 16 plus euros could go towards taxe d'habitation etc. Has anyone had problems after they cut the cord from FT? -
We've been satisfied users of Free for the past six years and are considering giving up paying FT for the line. Will we still be able to have caller ID?

To date we have not received our voucher although we have in previous years. We asked our doctor and he thought that it was very strange so gave us a prescription for the vaccine. The pharmacy wondered why we hadn't received the voucher so telephoned CPAM in Limoges. They were told that there was a dispute about whether British residents should have this vaccine. Four of our friends are also affected. We were given the vaccine (and administered it ourselves!). We wait to find out if CPAM covers the cost which is only 6.25€ each but if the rules have changed why have we not been informed?

RE-ADSL - is it any good?
Fewdyshen replied to Lou's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
This has been worrying me. Why did you HAVE to have Wanadoo? Our comune has just become eligible for ADSL so we asked France Telecom to change our ISDN line back to the normal analogue line so that we could convert to ADSL. They tried to get us to change to Wanadoo (which horrified us) as they said that we could have prolems if we didn't. The only problem is only having an ISDN modem and having to wait for our Freebox to arrive. Surely if the lines are ADSL capable then there should be a choice of ISP. -
Saw Filo pastry for sale in Leclerc for the first time today!

Definitely a change since we came here 5 years ago. We have also noticed how the area has come alive - is this good or bad?? Supermarkets were heaving with 'half termers' yesterday.

Channel 4 Tuesday 26 October at 4pm (UK) is about a couple buying in Haute Vienne.

You should be able to find this flour throughout France as I found it in La Souterraine (Creuse). I've made wonderful loaves with the Multigrain and can really recommend it. Yet one more item that I don't need from the UK!!

France Telecom
Fewdyshen replied to Paul_Gyn's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
No, can't get Top Message or any of the other features that were useful like concealed number. I think it is because we have changed to Tele 2 for cheaper telephone calls. Pat -
How about looking at www.lesflamands.com/villager ? I often see this site mentioned on the forum. Pat

Change from NUMERIS ISDN to ADSL
Fewdyshen replied to Punch's topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
Our Numeris box blew in a storm but not the modem. The house insurance paid the complete bill with no questions. Pat -
We bought ours from www.matelsom.com and were extremely pleased with the service. They have a questionnaire to find out just what type of mattress you need and advise on which base this should go on. Pat

pet passport savvy vet around?
Fewdyshen replied to essancee's topic in Central (Centre, Limousin, Auvergne)
Good vet in La Souterraine who deals with regular users of the pet scheme. Pat -
Rushed down to our Aldi in La Souterraine but not a bottle in sight - not even a label to say that there had been any.

I've recently ordered some crabapple trees (John Downie) and an Ashmead Kernel from www.hedging.co.uk. These will be delivered in the autumn as they are bare rooted. They have very reasonable prices (4 - 5 ft @ 6.99) and are experienced in exporting to Europe. Pat

Why do some UK purchased telephones not work in France? Pat

Excellent system. We had to use it when we decided to move. The first buyer pulled out and we were already committed to buying the second house. We had a year to settle before it was converted to a mortgage. It took seven months to finalise the sale of the house and we were expecting to have to pay a horrendous amount but it wasn't much at all (haven't the figures to hand). We had a scheme where you didn't pay anything back until the first house had been sold. This was with Credit Mutuel after Credit Agricole didn't want to know. Pat

We have just taken out a top-up insurance with our bank (Credit Mutuel). I am 63 and my husband will be 65 at the end of the month. The policy took effect from the day after we signed and there was no health check at all. The premium is 99 and covers both of us for the next to top service. Pat

A British builder lives in Fromental (Ray & Diane). He has a dark blue pick-up. Can't be more precise but I'm sure you'd find him if you ask locally. Lots more of just a bit further north in the La Souterraine area. Pat
