1. Or in Office 2007 - click on 'Page layout' tab > expand 'Breaks' then you have a choice of what type of break you want - Page, Column, next page, even page, odd page. Concuring with other posters, if you are using MS Office why not use the default programme for databases - MS Access.   Regards
 2.
Why are there never questions like   any Firefox experts? Ian
Because there are so few of them who don't use both like me.  Oh and before you try to stir this up again, it is an individual choice to use whichever browser one wants.
 3. Hi John, Have you checked Windows Defender 'quarantined items' to see if it has removed any spyware?  Clair and I suggested earlier in this thread that you may have a trojan. Then again many problems sort themselves out just by re-booting the PC. Regards
 4. Hi John, As Clair has indicated you probably have a 'Hijack Trojan', there are many in the wild.  Try the method in this LINK to remove it. Best of Luck
 5. Hi, Are you talking about a laptop or desktop?, either way go into Control Panel, select 'Power Options' (mine is set to 'High Performance') decide for yourself the setting you want.  On the left of the window select 'Change when the computer sleeps' decide when you want your monitor to turn off, then select 'Put the computer to sleep'> Never  This should solve the problem.   Regards
 6. Bob T You used an excellent analogy, Mr Ford did produce cheaper cars for the masses forcing other manufacturers to reduce their prices and make motoring affordable for the ordinary public.  Never owned a Ford, don’t want one, my car is a Toyota, nuff said. I am not interested in what operating system you or anyone else use now I was pointing out an historical fact.  I suppose you never used a windows computer to hone your skills before moving onto Linux. I shall close my contributions to this thread before it gets too silly.  I am surprised that the majority of windows users haven’t responded, never mind. Regards
 7.

First of all my apologies to the OP for this thread going off topic. Oh dear I seem to have ruffled the feathers of the Mac users.  My statement was neither presumptuous nor factuous, you wrongly assume my assertion was a recommendation, it wasn't it was a statement of fact.  Having a choice of operationg system or not doesn't negate the basic premise that windows gave the majority the opportunity to own and use a personal computer. So did OS2 which another large computer company foolishly sold to........ Teapot, you also make assumptions, you don't have and never will have any idea whate my favourite company is. Oh lighten up I was joking, though Mancunian's (Assumption again!)were supposed to have a sense of humour! I don't need a refund I am using windows 7 (provided free by Microsoft) on another P.C. Your'e a beta guinea pig but you have given up vista too[Www] Regards

8.
Highly presumptuous and totally fatuous to say that 99% of wouldn't be here or have computers without Microsoft and Windows. Lack of choice is no recommendation for anything, computer operating systems included.
First of all my apologies to the OP for this thread going off topic. 9.

Dump vista, microsoft have [;-)]
Once again I will point out to the knockers of Microsoft - If it wasn't for Microsoft 99% of you wouldn't be reading this forum and 99% of you wouldn't have a computer.
Not so, they are not the only computer company you know [Www]
Wrong!, Though I don't know what you mean by computer company.  I am talking about the 'Windows' operating system, which even today hold 90% of the World market and 80% in the USA.  They popularised the Personal Computer and brought down the price to an affordable level for the home user which was my original point.  There are many rivals to Windows i.e. Mac osx in it's various forms, linux, solaris, zeta etc but they are fairly specialist in their application.  I have a Mac and it is great but it would never have been affordable if Microsoft hadn't developed Windows.  As far as computers (hardware) are concerned I build my own and don't buy off the shelf, that way I decide what components I want that suit me. I have no financial interest in Microsoft just grateful for the opportunity they gave me.  If you took a staw poll of this forums readers you would find the vast majority use Windows.
 10.
I have direct experince of both IE8 and Firefox, they are both good products. I have installed IE8 on 5 PCs without a problem. If, like me, you prefer not to have two browsers installed, then I can categorically say that IE8 is much superior to IE6 and is well worth the upgrade. Perhaps you ought to try it Ernie, you never know you might like it ;-) (And actually, from a security perspective, you should have at least upgraded to IE7 by now.)
Well said that man!
 11.
Dump vista, microsoft have [;-)]
No they haven't, Windows 7 is just an updated version of Vista.  Once again I will point out to the knockers of Microsoft - If it wasn't for Microsoft 99% of you wouldn't be reading this forum and 99% of you wouldn't have a computer.  I have been running vista on one of my machines for more than 2 years with NO PROBLEMS.  I keep my spyware and anti-virus up to date, I use my computer for the great tool that is was designed for and don't abuse it so I rarely have problems.  XP was good, Vista was better and windows 7 no doubt will be better still.  To get back the the question by the OP, Internet Explorer 8 is great, you obviously have configuration problems with your present computer set-up to get the conflicts you do,  use Firefox or uninstall I.E.8.  I have had no problems with the latest version of Internet Explorer.
 12. Hi Bill, Now I know what you are looking for try this link, only 99p plus postage to Europe Regards
 13. Hi, My 'Guru' told me: Email downloads are downloaded via a pop or imap server which is usually dealing with yours and x number of emails at the same time, plus your anti-virus is scanning the email as well. File downloads use mirror sites and use multi-threading which shares the load to increase the download speed.  If anyone else has another explanation I would be grateful to hear it so I can query it with my guru. Regards
 14. Hi, This problem seems to be mainley with Dell Notebooks.  I believe you may have a faulty memory module.  Try removing one of the memory modules and reboot, if no problem swap the modules and try again.  This may point to which module is faulty so it can be replaced.  I none of the tests work I would suggest replacing both memory modules.   Sorry if this is bad news.   Regards
 15.
Thank you Simon, I think that has sorted the problem. My query is that I didn't set that on so how did it change? Oh how I wish this thing was user friendly like a mainframe!
It was probably changed by one of Microsofts security updates.  After any M.S. update I re-check my setting just in case they have used the cheap security option of not allowing you to open 'ANY' attachments.   Regards
 16. Hi, Looking at the manual, see link: http://ftp6.nero.com/user_guides/nero9/photosnap/NeroPhotoSnap_Eng.pdf Photosnap comes as one of one of the components of Nero 9. There is a Save icon shown in the screenshot but I get the impression that you can't save a photo unless you have used one of the tools. Sorry can't help. Regards
 17. Hi Ron, I have been using I.E.8 (not BETA) since it became available to download as full version. No problems, but tend to agree with Will, not a lot different to I.E.7. One feature I find useful is the addition of 'Accelerators' Regards
 18. In the past two months I have changed from AVG Free 8.0 to Avast which, though I have used in the past I found to have an awkward interface and slow scanning, I then tried Avira which was fairly good but limited in scanning choices. Now back on AVG Free 8.5 and agree with ErnieY, not as bloated as v8.0 and scans quicker. I have had no problems with my P.C. slowing down using the newer version of AVG. One excellent result from all of the above, they prevented my from accessing a website for an animal charity that I advise on telling me that it had been hacked and was downloading onto computers re-directs to porn sites. This had NOT been picked up by the Charities own compters who use either Norton or Bullguard. I was able to warn them to get the server cleaned and their website re-published.
 19.
In my opinion Sue is quite correct - you should remove the problem first. Have you run SuperAntiSpyware yet? As I said, it certainly helped with my friends' machine. In case you have problems searching for it -here is the url   http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html The free edition works just fine. As in all these cases, it's important to update the programme regularly and then run - I normally run mine once a week. Hopefully this will help you out and you can then decide whether to change browsers. I have to say, again in my opinion, I quite like IE7 - it certainly seems much more secure than the older versions. I also run Firefox on one of my other machines and I get on quite well with that as well. Regards - Tim
I completely agree regarding I.E. too many Microsoft detractors on this forum.  If it wasn't for Microsoft 99% wouldn't even have a computer.  Internet Explorer IS as secure if not MORE secure than the other browsers simply because Microsoft keep on top of any security issues.  Annies problem as pointed out is a Trojan,  remove that and your browsing will return to normal. Regards
 20. Hi, As you received my email I guess that Club Internet are blocking emails from problem (in their view) servers.  See this link http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/990030/ShowPost.aspx If an ISP gets a lot of Spam from a hijacked email address it blocks them and deletes their mail as a matter of course.   Regards
 21. Hi John, AOL UK seem to have a weird 'Fair Use Policy' they don't publish their limits, however they will restrict your usage if you exceed 10gb per month, which is quite low by todays standards.  If you continue to exceed this figure they will cancel your service. France AOL is now owned by TELCO (Neuf Cegetel) and finding the Terms & Conditions relating to their F.U.P. is nigh impossible. I agree with ErnieY's comments re-AOL.   Regards
 22. Hi Colin, To echo Sue, are you sure the mail server setting in your account are correct.   Simple Mail Transfer Protocol server:    smtp.orange.fr Your incoming mail will be whatever the thunderbird settings dictate. Regards
 23. Hi, No you haven't done anything wrong, Thunderbird is for receiving emails, if you read the blurb it talks about your inbox.  To send email you have to use your SMTP client server, in your case Orange.  There are many and varied email services but as AFIK none are free.  There are of course the Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoomail systems but they are not the standard Pop3/SMTP accounts but Webmail Accounts.   Regards
 24.
Whilst at independant company they advised me to put XP on instead of Vista  as I would have less issues in the future - trouble is now the wireless automatic searcher on laptop cant find the wireless signal. Should it make any difference now its on XP rather than Vista?Groan [:(]
I don't know which 'Independant Company' you used but they  are talking through their hat (more polite word than the one I wanted to use)  Changing to XP is a backward step and will make no difference whatsoever.  Your problem is not caused by software (apart from PC World removing all your programmes) but hardware.  As ErnieY states it is the responsibility of PC World who sold the laptop to rectify your problems, not Dell the manufacturers.
