1. I think that's been answered by Ron and the answer is yes you can have a french tv and watch UK SKY (I suppose as long as it is UK SKY) which is why it has been suggested that we buy a french TV to be able to watch french programmes and SKY Hope I've not misunderstood.
2.
Sue If you click on the edit box on your multiple posts it will give you the option on the right to delete the post . If you buy a new TV in France it will also give you the option of watching Frenc...
Thanks Ron - I was wondering about that but wasn't quite sure if you could put SKY through a French TV.  That was my next search this dinner time!  My other half would prefer that I think. Sue
3.
Baz is right, if you don't watch Sky 1, Discovery, UK Gold and the like then cancel. To answer your original Q (5 times, I ask you!), the Premium channels are movies & sport (+ Disney) only these...
Cheers for the info.  Don't know how the question managed to appear 5 times - see what I mean about being a technophobe - I can't even post a question on here correctly!!. I have now activated the card with Sky and understand it more.  So I am ready to go.  The only thing I can't remember is if there is a scart inlet in the television in France.  It is an old portable so we'll have to see.  I supose I'll end up buying a new one unless there is some sort of other lead.  I just know that it won't be straight forward when we get there. Sue
4.
Assuming that you can install the dish, cable, etc. Then your only potential problem is with the viewing card. The obvious thing to do is to register it in your existing box (just by calling Sky) and ...
Thanks Nick Someone we know will install the bits and pieces for us. The second card is from ebay but actually came directly from Sky so I know it is not a dodgy one. If I register it against my existing home sky box though would that not render my existing card useless? Does the card have to be 'married' to the box. Another thought - I don't watch any premium channels movies, sports etc just BBC, ITV etc - so why do I pay £20 per month when I can just register a card for free and get the same channels.  Or am I completely missing the point now?  Cheers
5. Having read through all the posts on here about Sky TV my head is now spinning. Just when I thought I had it sussed I feel totally confued again. I am going to France at the weekend armed with digibox, cable, dish and viewing card.  I understand that the viewing card therefore needs to be registered and I will do this before I go so that I can telephone from the UK and I can rig it up and give them all the details off the digibox.  ha ha you see I have learned something!  However if I telephone them to activate the card so that I can get ITV (very important as good week for Corry next week) will I have to pay another subscription?  I already have the usual Sky package at home.  What do I say to them? Thanks in advance (corry fan & technophobe)
6. Hi Can anybody tell me what's the best make/model sky digi box and dish size to use in central Brittany to get a good reception?   Thanks
7. How very strange - this is a copy of my posting in the Gite Owners Forum , seems we are all thinking along similar lines???: Has anybody else noticed the weird and wonderful times that people 'appear' to be 'looking' at your advert on Visit France website? I seem to have views 3 and 4 times a day everyday (including Christmas Day!) yet I have only ever had 1 successful booking.  My house and advert aren't that bad surely!!  I noticed for example that today somebody has viewed my page 3 times at 03.00, 06.00 and 09.00. Am I being paranoid or is there some sort of system that can automatically make it look like we have tons of traffic? ............... There were some interesting replies to my posting. Somebody has mentioned spiders, which is the word I was looking for I was  - yes I think there are great big spiders crawling all over my property!!! I for one will not be renewing my subscription.
8. Thanks for the info on the website www.geobytes Dick -  it is actually quite interesting to put in the information and see what comes up! I have noticed that on all of the IP addresses I have searched the ISProxy field comes up as False but I don't really know what this means.  I am a bit of a computer thickie I'm afraid when it comes to all the techy stuff.  Its just the word FALSE makes me even more suspicious. The explanation on the website of this field is as follows if anybody can put it into brief plain english (please): Description of Subnet headers The purpose of these fields is documented below. Certainty; this field is used to list the certainty for the information contained in the Geobytes map in relation to the subnet being searched on and the city that it is related to. A lower certainty rating may indicate that the data gathered was inconclusive or that the particular subnet serves a greater geographical area. IsProxyForwardedFor; this field is used to indicate that the connection is being made by a Proxy. IsProxyNetwork; this field is used to indicate that the user is connecting via a ProxyNetwork. At this time the only ProxyNetworks listed are AOL or MSN TV. IPAddress; this field is the IP address that GeoSelect will use to perform the resolution. It is useful to use this field to pass in a selected IP address for use with testing.
9. It does give actually give details of the IP addresses, although I have to say I have never studied them in any detail - as I say perhaps I'm being paranoid!  Its just that in all that time and out of all those views I have had 1 booking over the last 12 months, wheras I have very recently joined another advertiser and already had 2 bookings.

I too am fed up with the calender updating thing.  It has become really tedious.  I have more things to do in life than to log on every day to change the 'bogus' booked dates!
11. Following on from my earlier e-mail, I received the following from the website where I advertise the house for rent: Dear Owners As most of you are probably aware an email was sent on Saturday 10th July or Sunday 11th July from a gentleman called Brian Smith either using email address [email protected] or [email protected] telling you he is a doctor from Holland and looking for accommodation. When people have replied to this they have been sent this mail. I am interested in renting your accommodation for a week starting from the beginning 21st and 28th August.(although dates were changed on others) I will pay 585 euro for my one week stay, also confirming arrival and departure dates to be beginning 21st and 28th August respectively. I will be coming over with my wife and 2 kids who are ages 5 and 9years old.I would like to know if a FRENCH CHEQUE/BANK DRAFT will CASH at your local post office in FRANCE. Talking about PAYMENT I have my associate in the FRANCE who owes me 4000 euro ,and he wants to pay me through a cheque/bank draft, since I am not in FRANCE at the moment ,I will have my ASSOCIATE issue you a cheque for 4000 EURO on my behalf. As soon as you receive the CHEQUE/DRAFT you will have it cashed your local post office ,deduct your rent for my 1 week stay .The balance of the excees funds you will transfer it to my TRAVEL AGENT through WESTERN UNION MONEY TRANSFER so that all travel arrangements can be made on my behalf. As soon as the CHEQUE/BANK DRAFT arrives you will confirm reservation for the specified dates. If this is is OK by you then provide me with a name for the CHEQUE/DRAFT and a postal address where the courier will deliver the payment. Let me hear from you soon so that my associates can proceed with payment. Dr.Brian As you can probably gather from his reply this is highly suspicious and looks like it is part of a laundering scam. I confirm that this gentleman has been barred from emailing on the site in future and we are looking into having this investigated. I would recommend that you do not respond to him and certainly do not pass any banking details of any kind. Many thanks for your time. So it is scam after all - hope nobody has fallen for it. Sue
12. Hi Yes I've just had this one over the weekend. I deleted it straightaway! I did have another one last week very similar from someone in the far east saying much the same thing, i.e. that the bill would be paid by someone who owes him money in France. I deleted that one as well! We are obviously being 'picked off' from one of the advertising websites Sue
13. Hi all, This is our first letting season and it has been going quite well. We have recently had a request for a long term winter let. I have looked in the archives of the forum and am trying to collate all the information I have found there. However, it would appear that long term lets are not simple, but I am a little confused by one or two postings. I am paranoid that they will end up as 'squatters' so I have some very basic questions. I keep reading about 3 year lets so are 6 months lets different? 1. Do I need a different tenancy agreement for 6 months or can I use the same one I have for the ususal 2 week holiday let? 2. It would appear that for whatever period you agree (e.g. 5 months) the tenants can stay in for 6 months anyway. Is this correct? 3. If this is a 6 month let do we need to give any notice to the tenant beforehand to quit the property (i.e. 3months)? What have peoples experiences been. Have you found it a viable option or are the costs of heating etc and the tenants rights amde it too much hassle. Thanks for any help. Sue
14. Can you please send some details if the offer is still available. Thanks Sue
15. > >Person required to carry out general >cleaning and changeover service for >house in dept 22/56(on border) >between Loudeac and Josselin. Hi, If you are still looking for somebody please let me know. I know of somebody in Meneac who may be able to help you.
16. I have been offered a pool table by my in-laws and would like to use it in the house in France. We have a large room which will be perfect for it. Has any body any idea if I can buy one in France, (we are in Central Brittany)to avoid the costs of shipping (which are c500) or hiring a trailer for 2 weeks (c300 plus extra ferry charge and petrol plus pain in the neck having to drag the trailer all the way to France and back - again!). Alternatively does anybody know of a company perhaps on the south coast who can ship to France cheaper than the quote I have. ANY suggestions would be great as I really have a bee in my bonnett about this now! Thanks
