Lung removal

Very best wishes. Suey
2. I recently approached a website "The Good Life France" to ask them to feature a link to the National Hereditary Breast Cancer helpline who were a great help to me.  Their Editor Janine Marsh agreed to do so but asked to write an article about my journey through genetic testing and subsequent surgeries.  Here it is, if any of you think it might be of help to others please pass it on and if anyone wants to contact me just PM me.   http://www.thegoodlifefrance.com/healthcare-in-france-expat-experience/ Best wishes. Suey
3. I always remember Coops with a feeling of great admiration of what an inspiring, helpful, kind, amazing lady that she was.  Thinking of you Ian at this time. Best wishes Suey
4. No Norman, I cannot drive this home enough, push for testing.  Nothing is lost through testing.  Go for it. Suey xx
5. UPDATE ;-) Had my cherries fitted yesterday and tattooing done (in other words new nipples made and the tattooing done round them), under local anaesthetic.  All went well, just a bit tender.  Have dressings changed at hospital on Tuesday.  So relieved it is almost all over except for check-ups.  Also thanks to the amazing Angelina Jolie the message is getting out there regarding hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. Thanks for your support everyone. Suey

Nurses 'jobs'?

I had blood test done at the local Laboratoire, by the nurse who did it all day, every day.  I came out an hour and a half later, due to volume of patients and the next day my arm was black and blue, due to said nurse being too rushed. Suey

Hydrangas

A friend of mine has been given a hydranga.  She was given it at the end of April and told not to plant it out for a couple of months.  We live in Northern France, just north of Amiens.  Could anyone advise me of when she should plant it?  Many thanks as always. Suey
8. I have to say that the more uncomfortable procedure is the breast MRI, which goes on for about 45 minutes.  Laying on the MRI table with your breasts hanging through two holes and a bar very uncomfortably between them on the breast bone.  Thankfully that was a one off, as I had a preventative double mastectomy last year.  I have to say that despite the discomfort physically of the mammogram, the comfort mentally of being told all is okay is tenfold. Keep checking those boobs ladies (and gents). Suey
9. Thanks Parsnips, I had thought of PMing you.  Thanks for the info will pass it on. Suey
10. Where on the tax form does one put private pension.  Sorry asking for a friend and have looked on FAQ and could not work out private pension bit, only state and government pension. Thanks in advance Suey
11. What about getting advice from a Stroke charity, www.stroke.org.uk  They may be able to advise re insurance. Suey
12. Really been enjoying this series, just love the ambiance of it.  Very relaxing watch.  We visited Vilandry last year and it was beautiful and the Chateau is well worth a visit, very refreshing.  Looking forward to the next instalment tonight. Suey
13. Can you buy buttermilk in France and if so from where? Suey
14. Many thanks CBC and Poppy,  Very kind. Have completed the online form and will return it to them on Monday. I just wish they would give you some idea when they give you the form in hospital.  Perhaps give it out with the hospital info gumph. Bon weekend Sue
15. Sorry me again [;-)] I sent off my claim form, I had put a line  through the spaces under the bit that says "Depense Totale".  The form has been sent back with a red line highlighting Depense total and highlighting the Total Euros box at the bottom.  What am i supposed to put in these boxes?  I have no idea how much is paid per kilometre and had no other expenses.  Sorry to be a bit of a "nul" but help please. Thank you Suey
16. Sorry Judith, I have tried to PM you and it won't work, for some reason. Suey
17. ...... and you hang on in there Norman.  Having just heard of the death of a dear friend at the very young age of 61, my motto is live for today. Have a good weekend. Suey
18. Thank you all so much.  I am a very lucky lady to have discovered that I carry the gene before getting the cancer, unlike my two cousins who lost their battles at the ages of 46 and 66.  I am a previvor. If anyone has a history of breast, ovarian or prostate cancer in their family, discuss it with your doctor.  The testing is painless, just two blood tests here in France, one if you live in the UK.  There is counselling too if you want it.  best wishes everyone Kind regards Suey
19.
Suey, don't thank us for listening.  It is we who should thank you for telling us.  In fact, I have been wondering whether you'd had it all done and dusted (oops, I nearly said polished).  Or is a bit of French polishing the final touches you were referring to?
Ha ha Sweets.  No as they say, it just needs the cherries on the top [;-)] Thanks for your kind words Suey
20. I thought that I would update you on my progress.  Having discussed with my Gynaecologist the question of preventative mastectomy, he suggested that there are hundreds of women who pay thousands of pounds to have surgery to make their breasts magnificent, so in view of my risk (85% breast cancer) I would be improving my chance of living.  I therefore had a prophylactic double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction with expanding implants last May.  All went well and i visited my surgeon every two weeks to have my expanders filled with saline until I reached the size that I wanted to be (not 44ff I hasten to add).  Then two weeks ago I went in to have my expander implants removed and my "permaboobs" fitted.  I am still a bit uncomfortable but I feel so relieved to have lowered my risk of breast cancer from 85% to 2%. I just have a couple of final touches that need to be done and all will be finished. Thanks for listening. Suey
21. Thank you very much.  I am feeling better each day. Best wishes Suey
22. Hello, Me again, does anyone know what the time limit is for claiming PMT?   I was just going through my paperwork and discovered that I did not claim last year when I had my mastectomy. Thanks Suey
23. We have a few old pairs of specs that we want to clear out but feel that it would be better to recycle.  Is there anywhere in France where this can be done or do we need to take them back to the UK? Many thanks Suey
24. Thanks Norman, yes everything went really well.  Still quite sore, the nurse is coming in on Monday to remove the final dressings.  I should have been going back to Lille for this but with the snow here my surgeon took pity on me and said I could either do it myself or get a nurse in.  Only a couple more steps to go and my preventative treatment will be finished.  I know I've done the right thing because my cousin, who also carried the same mutant gene as me (BRCA2) died last week at the very young age of 66, having battled cancer for 20 years.  I've missed Coops guiding hand this time too. Best wishes Norman.  Keep warm and well. Suey
