To be honest I must acknowledge the fonctionaires, both admin and tax, in our department as whenever our paths have been required to cross they have responded in a professional, courteous and efficient manner.

That's excellent .. which dept do you live in cajal ?

I am perhaps pleading our particular case in the Dordogne but my suspicion that the Dordogne is especially way behind in the vaccine programme has been borne out today in the Sudouest.

Morbihan, too, is dire in this respect so take heart mint .. you are not alone. Our centres are 34km and 32km away and would take a good 30/35 mins to get to either .. if they had any vaccine that is.

Edit : I believe we have 3 centres at present tho another 2 are in the pipeline.

It's very unfair how different it seems to be depending on your location.

You don't say which area you live in Kong ..

Our centres are 32km and 30km away in opposite directions .. not that we are in this >75 group .. but I haven't been that far away (or amongst 'people') for 10 months.

    Trump dies from the virus.

He goes to Hell where the Devil is waiting for him ..

The Devil smiled and said, "Monica, you're free to go!

That's naughty Norman .. but if it gets Monica off the hook (and Trumpy where he can do no further damage) .. then I'm for it ?

Catalpa, that was an excellent explanation so I am very glad you didn't press delete.

I also read somewhere that some malware might be responsible for bing coming up all the time ..

    I think you're right mint.

You seem to have acquired a browser hijacker somehow.

So initiate a scan with your antivirus .. and if that doesn't help to resolve the problem then download this malware buster (it's free) and do a scan to neutralise the nasty you have acquired.

When I see or hear about people cheating the system, putting themselves first, thinking the rules don't apply to them not caring about anyone else, it actually makes me sad, not angry. Sad that there are so many people who do these things, because I think the world could be an infinitely nicer place if there weren't so many people like that.

But there is that streak in human nature, you have to accept it.

Oh ET .. that's how Trumpy got where he did .. by people not criticising him, by letting him flout rules.

He walked all over convention and so made his corrupt way appear to be the new norm. Taken to its limits this behaviour becomes dangerous and seditious.

And, no, I don't have to accept 'streak' you talk of ..

If all else fails, I shall download your suggestion, Norman. After all FREE sounds very good at the moment.

I have Win 7 and Win 10 and I use LibreOffice .. it is easy to download and only slightly different to Word to use.

In fact after quite a few years use I now prefer LibreOffice.

It is downloadable in many languages .. and you can add other languages as you wish. I use French and English as I need docs in both.

Our situation is quite straightforward: we are resident in France since 2008, working and paying taxes. We've rented out 2 apartments in the UK. That income, plus a small dividend, are the only UK income we have. We have always declared on 2042 and 2047.

It does appear that you have been filling out your tax forms completely wrongly.

From the Fisc's point of view you have been claiming a credit .. via 8TK .. when you haven't declared the income from which you are asking to be credited.

You have been given good advice .. take a translator with you. This can be cleared up and, as a bonus, you should learn how to fill in your future forms.

Do take with you info regarding your payment of UK tax on the income from the flats .. it might help the Fisc understand your situation.
  9. ET .. am I reading this wrong ?

Thing is I am applying for jobs, and promising potential employers that I have the right to work. It will be dead embarrassing if it turns out the prefecture says I don't, and I have to have an argument about it before they can do the embauche thing.

The info for WA appliers states that it is not upsetting if you have come and gone from France throughout your life here .. unless an interruption lasted more than two consecutive years.

This gives me the impression that a leave of more than 2 years is a no-no.

Insofar as I’m aware, very young children seem to be much less susceptible to CV than adults and adolescents.

I haven't got a link but the latest Covid-19 variant is much more easily transmissible to young children than the original. This is what is begin to cause dismay and even alarm in primary teachers.

My daughter is emphatic that young children (especially deprived children) need to be in school but she is becoming increasingly concerned by the latest Covid developments.

I imagine that we will end up with a lockdown at some point.

I do feel for those working and are affected, terrible worrying times.

Our daughter teaches in a school in a socially-deprived area which admits referred children from all over the area .. she has an Inset Day tomorrow and the kids arrive on Tuesday. She loves her job but is dreading what might have happened to her charges over the Xmas hols. Summer is bad enough but tge cold weather means kids who are inappropriately clothed, who have not eaten enough over the holidays.

Plus she has a journey of approx 50-60 mins to get there in her car (on a good day) if there is ice or an accident en route then she arrives later than her usual 8:15am start.

Thanks for your reply. You didn't have to tick any boxes then as to which categories you required?

Did you apply well in advance?

Could you also tell me how the electronic signature woerks.

Cannot remember about ticking boxes sorry .. but the signature part is easy to describe.

We went for our photos to one of the new digital photo booths in supermarkets .. after your pics are taken you sign (very awkwardly) with a plastic 'pen' on a small screen just below the main screen.

You receive a digital code to input online (when back home) at the appropriate point in your application .. this conjures up your photo and a copy of your signature. You agree these are yours and Bob's your uncle ?
  14. OH and I received 5 year licences in 2014 when we exchanged our UK licences due to the categories on them.

So last year I renewed them (without any problem) online in exchange for 15 year licences, the 'offending' categories having expired their limited timeline in the last 5 years.

    No medical needed.

    Go for it.

I do enjoy the tree we got this year. It is one of our prettier fresh trees. The lights look really festive on it.

The town where we currently live puts lots of lights around the center of town. However, ALL of the lights are one blue color. The same color as ambulance lights. It looks really, really odd to me and not Christmassy at all.

Ah .. the blue Christmas lights .. for some reason this blue hue is pretty well everywhere in France. Personally I love them for being beautifully calming and different .. but there you go ?.

We are driving up to Calais over two days at the end of this week and wondered if the restaurants in the Aires will be open or not ?

As I understand it the shop sections are open and sell sandwiches, filled baguettes, biscuits .. coffee etc from a machine. So not restos as such.

Some places have even shut their loos and showers .. to the despair of the drivers of poids-lourds.

Can anyone advise me as to what the translation of "odd job man" would be, in that I would like to find an odd job man to fix something.

Often I see the phrase 'petits travaux' used by someone advertising that they do odd-jobs around the house.

Well, ALBF, I have never played pool so I don't know what you mean.

Weegie, there is a word in that article that I would disagree with. Robert Peston says "Boris Johnson cannot name a single EU level-playing-field standard he currently wishes to weaken" but I think it is a case of "will not" rather than "cannot". I would bet that workers rights and environmental standards and targets are two of the areas that will be watered down very quickly.

Can only agree with your analysis .. I do worry about how life will pan out in the UK for the average Brit who, perhaps, has no idea of what difficulties will hit the fan over the next year.

Are these prices for line rental with landline calls and broadband?

They are .. but, if like us, you regularly ring French mobiles from your fixed VOIP line then you need to add in the 5€ a month option to cover inclusive calls to mobiles.

Edit: most Internet providers to we unlucky non-dégroupé clients provide a bare-bones service which costs approx 30€ a month whichever provider you are with.

Edit 2: The other option, only if you have good 4G mobile reception is to buy a sim-card from the likes of RED for approx 15€ pm for 80Gb of data, then buy a sim router and use that for your Internet access.

I suppose dipping my toes in after a break. Don't know where to start, there are a few posts that have drawn me to them.

Sadly, I have lost yet another female friend in France, again younger than me.

It's great to hear from you again, just plunge right in .. you have been missed.

So sorry to hear you have lost another one of your friends .. you must be very upset as your friends mean so much to you.
