I’ll readily admit that I’ve been known to be grumpy when trying to get a problem fixed with Customer Service departments. However, that lady at SFR was excellent today - hats off to them and her.

We used to be with SFR years ago .. great at first then they slowly slid into horrific price rises, accompanied by terrible client service .. probably due them having been taken over with dire results.

Now I am very pleased to hear that they are regaining a good reputation .. as good client service is becoming more and my important.

Very little is now being mentioned regarding people dying of covid who are obese.

OK .. agree about the US and the UK .. but here in France M Macron always mentions obesity as a particular problem, especially linked to Covid.

I am horrified to discover that the (in my view) dreadful advert for 'Just Eat' has hit the TV screens here in France. Bringing with it the idea of snacking big time outside of main meals .. especially late at night.

Fortunately the curfew is limiting that aspect here for the moment .. but I anticipate an explosion of delivery bikes/ scooters dashing about in the evening when the curfew is lifted.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/23/new-covid-test-delivers-results-three-times-faster-than-lateral-flow.

If sounds just what is needed .. but the prose says there will be 3 months of extended trials ..

In the present horrible situation Europe finds itself enduring I hope the new results are even more stunning than those already announced .. and the decision is made to limit the length of the trial and introduce the test Europe-wide after a slightly reduced period of (further) testing.

Well done the French scientists ?

Do you mind telling me what you use?

I simply spray a small amount of warm water into a microfibre cloth and wipe the LCD screen of my laptop with that.

Wet cloth .. no, slightly damp cloth .. ok.

No aerosols, no 'products' .. simply a small amount of warm water on a cloth.

Or do you mean I have copy and paste the title of the thread into the Subject box, and that putting anything else there will cause the error?

Yes .. putting anything other than the actual title of the thread (or the post-in-question) in the Subject box will screw up the report.

  6. nomoss wrote the following post at 14 Feb 2021 17:45:

Moderators. I have tried to use the "Report" button, but it just throws up an error when I try to post from it..

You have to copy and paste the title of the post you want to report in the space above the message box .. if you forget that then you encounter the problem you did.

Try again .. Hoddy always replies .. or message Woolly.

Yes, Mint, I did say no. The authorities just sent the 2nd threatening letter telling owner he better let them inspect or expect judicial replies. That is why I suspect there is more to this than I'm being told.

There are only a few categories of people who can enter your residence without your permission if you are renting. Bailiffs (if you owe money) but only if they are in possession of a court order .. plus a few others.

I don't remember water people being among them ..

You can forbid them to touch anything .. door handles included; the Covid rules are pretty strict at the moment.

You, as the renter, have rights to the 'jouissance de la propriété en toute sécurité'. Norman is right.

You also have a perfect right to ask to see the court order allowing them to enter .. wear gloves.

Tell them they will be trespassing if they enter without your permission.

Thanks for the replies - it was the word arret that had me worried as my first instinct was 'stop'

What worries me is .. you mentioned 'arrêt' .. which is stop.

As Norman says arrêté can mean statement .. but it also means the procedure of looking at something before stopping it.

I would act as soon as you can either online or by email to clarify the situation.

.. we've just had a water bill from Veolia entitled Facture d'arret de compte. This follows me providing a meter reading lower than the previous estimate Veolia used.

You (or someone who speaks good French) needs to ring Veolia and discuss this .. just to make matters clear to them.

In my (possibly jaundiced) view they might be suspicious that smthg odd is going on .. they know nothing about you so it would be good to let them know why you believe their estimate is too high.

Email is an excellent idea too .. as then you both have a written record of any exchange of views.

We have been using this software for a good few years, works very well.

    It's free too!!

I, too, have used this adblocker for years. It is v easy to install. It just depends on which browser you use to access the Internet as to how you install it.

Which browser are you using auxadrets ?

BTW, the message about this person's mail taking up the 3 GO is still present.

Have you looked in the 'Corbeille' ? If the persistent email is there (along with others) then, at the top of the list, tick the box and click to delete them forever.

If this action doesn't do the trick then pomme might be right and further action might be needed.

    Report back, mint.

GO is French for Gigabyte so 30go is HUGE!

Hi mint .. AnO is right when he says 30Go is huge.

As our Orange email page says the total overall limit for emails is 10Go I think maybe your friend's blog might be 3Go .. but written down in the odd way that Orange do using Ko (which is a fraction of a Go) to make it seem a huge number.

    IIRC then 1 Go = 1000 Mo = 1'000'000 Ko

Looking at the list of emails in your Inbox just put a tick in the box by the one you want to get rid of then click on the email (don't open the attachment) and boxes will appear at the top of the list - choose supprimer and the mail will go into the corbeille.

From there it will either disappear on its own in 7 days or you can repeat the ticking process and definitively delete it from the corbeille forever.

    Good luck

Edit : Perhaps you could tactfully explain to your enthusiastic friend that her emails are a bit big !

I have a very annoying friend who has sent me a blog of her "incredible" holiday and, so far, this blog has taken up over 30 000 GO, whatever GO is.

There is a message next to it from Orange, asking if I needed more space. MORE space, so that people can send me more of their boring, ridiculous, self-inflating blogs?

Good grief .. that's the kind of friend you don't really need.

Did she send it via email .. as an attachment ? Pièce-jointe ?

I was interested in this post because I have a handful of shares in National Grid and Santander. I'd like to sell to make things simpler for my kids when I pop my clogs. I went online to National Grid but was told I couldn't sell online because I don't live in the UK.

Probably not unless you have an existing account with a UK Stockbroker. OH and I have sold shares online but then we have the necessary live account with a UK Stockbroker.

I use our iPad for access to this Forum.

Literally in the last 24 hrs, I’m getting a Britline ad that’s obliterating the first three posts. Anybody else getting the same thing?

What happens when you refresh the page ?

Won't go into details but we've hit a bit of a financial black-hole; several major things have gone wrong for us all at once ... and I don't want to touch the cash in bank.

We need to sell some of these shares, quite soon - need the cash for major items.

If you have used Equitini in the past then by all means ring them and ask their advice.

Unless you are talking telephone numbers of capital gain in ££ then your problem is not with CG in the UK but declaring the CG on your French tax return, after you have exchanged the ££ for €€ and they are in your French Bank account.

But we will cross that hurdle when we get to you declaring that in 2022 when your gains for 2021 will need to be declared here.

You do have a UK Bank Account ?
