  1. Dear Superman and "Others". I do not want any immigrants shot nor any travellers,new-age or tree-huggers, I just wish that if you want to live in ANY country and ask to be welcomed with open arms, that you abide by the laws and society rules of that country. As for knocking the UK, my wife and I expect to return there shortly,we will be able to pay our own way and don't expect the UK coffers to have to pay for anything we haven't contributed to for about 49 years. The main problem with many now arriving in the UK seems to be that they come from countries with a completely different culture and have no regard for the laws of a civilised society.I don't believe that the UK can afford to accept all and sundry as the many services required seem to be at breaking point now.
  2. Buelligan,a slightly over the top response to my posting.Wooly's reply regarding education and the same laws applying to all groups is perhaps a more balanced reply, don't you think? Regards.
  3. Dear Superman. I was putting forward an opinion. Are we allowed to without getting a load of sarcasm in return? Yes, I admit to perusing the Mail but add the Times and Telegraph plus this Forum to that. By the way ,I think the French have pretty strong views on Immigrants, so I pay my way and usually keep my trap shut. I also think an open Forum like this ,does allow members to express a view,an opinion, even if it may be their own ,through rosy tinted glasses or whatever. Regards. 3 replies today,I must get out more.
  4. Having had a discussion; that turned fairly heated ; on the U.K.'s predicament and the rascism now creeping into the arena as well as it's financial state, one point came home. It seems that your opinions and views are radically affected by the area in which you live and work. If you are fortunate to live in an affluent district and work in the higher ,employment unaffected by the mass of cheaper immigrant labour available,Not put back in the queue by Doctor,Dentist, Hospital or Housing Authority,it surely must give you a rather rosier view as in N.I.M.B.Y.The only residents of the U.K. not affected or not abiding to the numerous proposals, rules and regulations ,seems to be the Immigrant and Traveller population.
  5. Bring back Borstal's. A strict regime enforced on the yobs and bully boys by people a but tougher than them might stop the escalation when the younger ones graduate to the more vicious crimes. When watching, very occasionally, the TV showing 4-5 police cars +obligatory helicopter chasing a car thief at 100 plus miles through residential streets, usually repeat known offender, after arrest"No charges brought" or Community Service, it seems more like a game tham a punishment. With the VR cameras,I've never understood why the police can't use them at junctions or traffic lights when offending vehicles can be easily stopped but perhaps they prefer the chase.
  6. Dave. Mind you don't get taken away. Somewhere I read that we are all racist but some don't express their racism. Having dealt with and worked with many different cultures and races,I found that the Ukers had a more balanced view and openess to all UNTILL the present Government and it's rules and agenda were employed. The present immigration policy seems to generating unrest, particularly in the areas of low employment etc etc. Gypsies and the tree huggers having precedence in Doctors etc. Illegal emcampments having access to services etc. Dustbin spy's, the stupid legislation goes on and on. Ed Balls spends £3 million on doing up his office, but closes schools and sells of playing fields. £53 million spent on the Supreme Court etc.etc. While working class and above struggle with the ever rising cost of surviving. There seems to be no responsibility for local Councillors or Government Departments to think further than their own empire.
  7. Please Quillan and Wooly, you are using common sense and quoting the obvious. No-way are any politicians going to follow those ideas and the Civil Servants won't allow it. It has now become an avalanche of faceless people empire building to make their departments seem essential. I seem to remember G.Brown .P.M. saying he was going to get rid of 120000 civil servants,Perhaps he doesn't know the difference between plus and minus. I expect we'll hear plenty of promises over the next few months.I think if they re-introduced Purchase Tax and got rid of the game involved in VAT it might help. VAT seems to be the area were we hear of fiddles in the tens of millions.
  8. Phoned UK tax office today ref tax refund due from least March. "At the moment it is taking 12 weeks to turn around our post". The last letter, dated 30th August gives a phone number which is engaged or unobtainable. Changed the number when moving to new offices in August. When phoning it's engaged because of all the thousands also given the wrong number. After trying other departments to get the correct number we were advised to resubmit our claim with the relevant R43 and paperwork. I believe they are so inefficient they just hope you will give up,or die.
  9. As Quillan states"Charity begins at home".I expect the Civil List Brigade are very pleased about that. I understand they won't have to tighten their belts like the rest of the population. One day, hopefully, someone will drag the UK into the 21st century and realize that the country doesn't need the whole tribe and the hundreds of flunkies and pandering fops.
  10. Teletext headlines for Scottish Newspaper this morning. Scotland is changing the Heritage Laws so that the National Trust can sell off it's treasures. I wonder where the money will go?
  11. I have Hearing Aids from UK and any problems when in France are at your own expense. I did ask my Doctor about this and he said you make your own arrangements. I am covered by E121 and have 100% top-up. There are plenty of bureaus/shops/agencies here but they do not do the NHS Opticon aid.
  12. For us with Radiance about 1200e.p.a. Credit Agricole with whom we have house and car insurance quoted us nearly double. WE are now on E121's but this doesn't seem to make any difference to your top-up cover. Many variations available,70%-200%. Etc.etc. Very easy to get a quote and unlike UK private cover, they cover you.
  13. Taking an interest in the ever growing debt of the UK and reading the draconian measures the Treasury is imposing on UK residents to gather in extra cash, from selling off as many public service providers and anything else it can . I wonder how the National Trust and it's ever growing portfolio of Stately Piles etc has escaped their notice. As most of these seem to have been "Gifted" to avoid Inheritance Tax and then have to be maintained by the taxpayer,it seems that this may be the time for someone to realise the country can't afford these grandiose properties, or at least so many of them. Anyone else think of disposable assets?
  14. If you've ever had the misfortune of dealing with the UK Office of Fair Trading you would understand why it's not worth the bother. A bit like the Financial Regulators etc.
  15. When we bought this house 7 years ago a washing-machine was in with the items bought from the seller so he could make a quicker exit.We had in hand a new washing machine in case of problems.7 years later the spare is still a spare even though the original is put to almost daily use. Was every day when the B&B was up and running with 5 years very heavy use. The only problem we had was looking up the makers name on the web, unfortunately the same as a porn star in America and no I won't post the name, just surprized the machine is so square. Regards.
  16. Met Eddie at the D-Day Service in Bayeux this year and had a chat,He does his bit for the Normandy Veterans and like his Marathons, does it very quietly. Well done,a bit more publicity for him rather than the so-called celebrity circuit might give teenagers something else to read and think about. Regards.
  17. A friend locally,by The Rance, has a very similar problem. A track owned by the Commune and leading into a wood which he owns. It seems the original track was to allow for wood to be transported to the road and then the Commune bought it to allow locals to walk to the wood. The chap has had a nightmare dealing with various Notaires, lawyers and Commune departments for the last 2 years, also incurring quite a few thousand in costs with, as yet, no outcome. An initial enquiry to your Maire might give you an idea of the outcome. Regards.
  18. The 31p and 38p sounds about right for H.M.R.C. If you dodge in the millions they don't seem to bother. Not that I'm in that league, yet.
  19. Just returned from a short trip to UK and car was loaded with boxes ,on offer at Sainsbury's, of my morning cereal. Why are cereals so dear over here? Of course our buys included a large quantity of tea-bags and a few tins of baked beans at £1 for 4. Regards.
  20. If it's any consolation having just spent 4 days in Bournemouth,we had our French registered car keyed on 2 panels. Being a Moron isn't confined to France, only that there are less of them here. Regards.
  21. What is amazing is the amount they let non-employed people borrow. I believe the main source of income to banks is provided by encouraging debt plus of course using your savings to do it. Regards.
  22. Yes, it is easy in times of stress or need to be taken in and it seems that the thousands at it are quite clever at exploiting the vulnerable and those not so sharp. A bit like me. Being in charge and working on a large store re-furb which was having a new roof fitted I fell for a very good one. The steel fixers used the same Cafe every day and one morning said they were off for brekkies early as they were awaiting a delivery of roof sheet cladding. About 10 minutes after they'd gone a chap in overalls came in and asked for the roofers." Just gone". "I've got a delivery for them and the lorry is in a garage 1/2 mile away.driven from Newcastle and b-----dy run out of petrol, no cash and garage won't accept firms petrol card." I fell for it.£20 for petrol, still waiting for the lorry 12 years later. It must be nice to be so smart that you never fall for any dodges. Regards.
  23. I suppose an add-on could be, "Do you love your wife" If so would you leave your dirty socks for her to pick up? Slightly off-topic but the manager at a store I contracted work from, used to delight in telling the male staff every morning whilst having our tea break, the sexual antics of his loving wife and also delight in the trouble she took in packing his lunch box with little extras. One morning ,no lunch box and a very quiet manager. When questioned about the missing lunch box he replied that she had informed him she was leaving and would be seekin a divorce. " But don't you love me"? The reply" Love you! I don't even like you". Unfortunately the sentence has now become almost a joke. I might add that I believe I'm still loved by several. One of 7 ,one of 13,another of 16 and one who will not let me give her age!! Regards.
  24. After reading "Sepulchre" I suggest Quillan finds the "Tarot Cards". Perhaps we can then see what the future holds for the pound. After reading all the comments on here it seems the answer my friends, is blowing in the wind. Regards.
  25. I stand corrected. Although I watch the BBC news I must have missed this warning. Whilst I agree that anyone asking for details should be ignored,I had another one this morning, the HMRC one actually has the links to connect you to the tax office sites. Regards.
