1. Are you sure you are using realplayer not the standard flash based iplayer from the website? Regards Simon
2. The bbc site does have some advice that may help, personally I use one of these that handles the buffering pretty effectively when used with AlienBBC. Regards Simon

6. Make sure your laptop is no thicker than 9.5mm, and confirm whether you have a sata or ide interface; take out your existing drive measure it and look at its cable.  Look at ide and sata pictures on the web.  Provided you buy something of the same dimesions and interface you can put in any size you wish. regards Simon
7. Upgrading should be no problem, but there aree a couple of things to consider.  Firstly what type of drive do you have, and secondly what are its physical dimensions.  What model is your laptop, we should be able to look this info up? Regards Simon
8.
AFAIK you do not need the setup CD and in trurh all it does is scatter useless crud all over your HD,
Yes that is absolutely right, use the RJ45 connector and stick to the web interface for configuration.
9. Hi All I signed up for the free calls over VOIP Orange package sometime back, but I am only just setting things up.  I currently have a Netgear router that has done stirling service over the past 5 years or so, but it will have to be retired as it does not support the Orange VOIP.  Not wanting to fork out €3/month I have reconfigured a UK livebox that I bought for £14 from ebay and it now should allow me to connect to the DSL service when I return to france.  For those of a technical bent I have loaded a french version of the Inventel firmware via RGWrepair, which should be enough, though I have also unlocked the box to access a telnet service and the adsl hidden pages on the web pages. Now, what I want to know is how reliable is the livebox likely to be, I have seen numerous postings complaining of frequent trips to the FT shop to swap boxes, but what were the faults?  It seems a well specified box with many features and reasonable performance, but with a poor reputation.  I would like to discover if this is poor software or flawed hardware. Regards Simon
10. They sell Cat5 in rolls in Leroy Merlin if there is one near you.  You can run this up to 100m without problem and there are 4 pairs of wires to use, though the network will require 2 of these pairs.  Cat5 is OK for speeds up to 100mb, but Cat5e or Cat6 will give you 1gb. You will have to put the cable in conduit to run it outside as it is not waterproof. Regards Simon
11. Select Tools, Options, Security tab then make sure "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus is not checked" Regards Simon
12. Lately the web has been dropping out and after some extensive testing it seems like a fault with the incoming line.  Basically I have disconnected all extensions, gone to the primary telephone box, put in a new filter and tried a couple of diffent routers.  If I then use the phone the service will connect for a short time.  I have had the service running for a couple of years without issues, so I think the incoming line has a fault, a break or water intrusion, and when the phone is used the increase in electricity pulls the line up enough for the dsl to grab.  Now the question is, who do I ring, France Telecom or Orange? Regards Simon
13. I find the Sotherbys guide the best for this, it has an extensive reference to the French regions and lists individual producers with a guide to when they should be drunk.  It is not cheap, but is first class. Regards Simon
14. L'atre Barbezilien   9 Rue De La Republique, 16300, Barbezieux St Hilair05 45 78 36 44 These are Jotul dealers, they may supply other brands too.
15.
No I had a look there it's 16mm that they sell. If I could find a way to convert plastic15mm pipe to 16mm I would, save a load of grief. Thanks for the thought anyway.
Buy a 15mm-22mm converter and a 22mm-16mm converter that should bump you up and then down to the right size 22mm being common to both Hep2o systems.
16. I have stayed out of this very interesting discussion as I did not want to stimulate the disagreeable aspects, however, I thought I would just mention that for those who drink wine the fining process normally, though not always, uses eggs to clear the liquid.  So vegans beware this is not always obvious and is never on the label. Regards Simon
17. There are a number of issues floating here, Dog is a passionate animal lover and preaches (sorry but that is what it is) a very hard line.  I on the other hand confess to holding the opposite view, but do not want to force my view on others.  My only complaint is that whatever thread is started it gets highjacked and turns into the same old thou should not eat flesh...  We get it, but if you really want to educate and disseminate please start your own thread and stop boring us when we want to look at things differently from you.  I have the greatest respect for your position, but please have the same for mine. Kindest regards Simon
18.
I bought some Basa fillets from the supermarket fish counter....They looked nice firm white fish..and tasted very good ....Basa was a name I was not famliar with and googled it and discovered it was a catfish  ...Fine no problem with that...I then discovered it is farmed in huge quantities in pens in the Mekon river in Vietnam.. and sold all over the world ...I learned what else goes in the river.....  yuk !......I think in future I might just give a bit more attention to where my fish comes from...
Trouble is we cannot often tell where it is sourced, there are few details on display in most fish emporia. Regards Simon
19. NRJ seems to fit the bill. Regards Simon
20. The UK is moving to covering women aged between 47 and 63, thse extra 6 years is an increase of around 30%, so it seems a good move to make yourself available for a scan before 50. regards Simon
21. My mother in law loves these, and I want to get her the nice little box that is on the back of the packet.  I have the 3 barcodes from the packs, but the instructions demand 3 stamps for the postage, and I am now in the UK until Easter.  Do you think they will take a cheque, or can I buy French stamps anywhere in the UK? Regards Simon
22. I have been in a book club in the UK for some years now, the problem with a lot of clubs is that sometimes the chosen book is a little thin when it comes to the discussion, so it helps if you incorporate some other activity to help keep the interest up.  We have a music links and classics round at the end of the evening to give the chaps a fuller experience, we have been going almost 15 years so it seems to work.  The book discussion usually lasts 1-2 hours, and then we have about the same dedicated to the music and classics. We do go around the room in turn starting with the book's nominator and we each get a relatively uninterrupted turn at saying what we thought, once that is over we then have a free for all discussion that can go on for quite a while.  I think that this works well as in every group you have the loud and the shy, and if you only have a free discussion it can get dominated by 1 or 2 individuals. Anyone interested might like to see here. Regards Simon
