  1. Thanks so much for the exceptionally fast reply and the useful information.  It is much appreciated.
  2. Is there anyone that could recommend a good resource (internet site or book) to help understand the French domestic electrical wiring system please? Many thanks
  3. Hi Does anyone know of a good landscape designer in or near the Gers?  We have just bought a village house with a small garden which needs a total redesign.  We're looking for someone who can design and then build/plant it.  We're in the north of the Gers near Eauze/Condom. Many thanks.
  4. Hi On a lighter note perhaps this might help http://www.gbjab.com/
  5. Thanks for all the information.  We have now bought quite a lot of our furniture having found the stores in Toulouse and Agen.  Agen turned out to be quite good for much of what we wanted particularly on the electrical side and isn't such a trek as going to Toulouse.  We did find Ikea in both Toulouse and Bordeaux and i have to say we'll always go to the store in Bordeaux in the future as it is enormous!  Many thanks to you all.
  6. Hi Sashabel Totally random really and not anything to do with asdl lines but it is about the Gironde.  Have you found any properties yet?  we spent 9 months looking for the right house there and have eventually bought a wonderful house in the Gers instead.  However we did make some wonderful contacts one of which was a brilliant immobilier who covers the Entre deux Mers region.  Sadly there was nothing available for us during that period but i would recommend him to anyone.  His name is Edouard Cottignies and he owns the Laforet agency in Libourne, Creon and soon to be in Branne.  His email address is [email protected] and he speaks perfect English.  We dealt with many agents - all of them French.  Don't be tempted by the English agents - the French agents virtually all speak English and by and large know what the English buyer is after.  Edouard ia a gem.  Happy hunting.
  7. Thanks again for the info - we shall be heading for Portets as soon as we arrive and it won't be on a Saturday!  We're looking for beds and sofas in the way of furniture and then all the electrical appliances, crockery, kitchenware and other essentials.  I shall also look out for Depot de Vente's which sound ideal for looking for much of the furniture we need as we do indeed have very high ceilings and lots of space for very large furniture.  Sadly Ikea have changed their policy about ordering on the internet and collecting from a store - we've just tried to do it and failed.  They told us we had to order 15 days in advance which we did but then they came back with a 3 week delivery time - sadly too late for us to have a bed for our visit.
  8. Wow - this is the first forum I've ever used after years of surfing on the net.  I'm so impressed with the speed of the replies.  Thank you so much for the information.  I've found both Roque and Portets on the map with via Michelin so we'll check them both out.  Thanks also to the suggestion about Montaubaun but we're not close to there - our house is in the north of the Gers near Condom and Eauze so Toulouse is marginally the nearest large centre.:
  9. Hi - we're totally new to the area and need to buy furniture for our new house.  The house is in the Gers but our nearest large city is Toulouse.  Can anyone recommend where to find all the large out of town shopping centres around Toulouse where we can buy furniture - hopefully some of it to take away with us? Many thanks
  10. Hi - we've just signed the Act de Vente and now it seems even scarier because we have an empty house to fill!  We're not going to be living there for a few years but will make frequent visits.  We're going to buy a TV in France and would like a few French channels but also would like the major UK channels.  What do we need to get UK tv as cheaply and easily as possible?  This will be the first of MANY questions I'll be asking over the next few months - I hope I won't be too much of a pain!
