  1. Hi There is a special price for long term parking at Merignac now and I picked up the information on it during the summer.  Sadly we left the house yesterday and the information is there and I just can't remember what the deals were.  There is a telephone number for the car parks department and they can explain it to you there.  I don't know why they don't just put the details on the website but maybe one day they will get round to it. Good luck. Car Parks Department +335 56 34 50 73.
  2. Hi I've almost made a decision on where to go for our stay in the Pyrenees and am looking at Luz St Sauveur as a base and then walking at Gavarnie and one other walk.  Has any one any information on Luz especially hotel and restaurant information please?  Is this a good place to pick as a base for walking? Thanks [:)]
  3. Hi Pat I love the name of the lake too!  It looks stunning there - I'm now going to see how far it is from Montreal.  Thanks for the recommendation. [:)]
  4. Sorry for not replying sooner but I was en route to France and have only now picked up my emails.  Thanks for all the information - I will now take a look at your kind recommendations. [:)]
  5. I'm looking to take a two night stay in the Pyrenees so that we can go walking and sightseeing.  When I say walking I mean a walk of perhaps 2 hours followed by lunch and then perhaps 1 or 2 hours after lunch rather than serious day long walking.  I'm looking for a nice small hotel/auberge with access to good food nearby.  We are based in Montreal du Gers so ideally would like to just head south and maybe a little East which should take us south/south east of Tarbes perhaps.  Can anyone please suggest somewhere for me to start my search - more the area for walking I suppose as there are so many areas to choose from.

  7. If you are in the north of the Gers near to Montreal du Gers THE best value and most consistently excellent place to eat is at STE MAURE DE PEYRIAC (actually just in the Lot et Garonne) and it's called LES DEUX GOURMANDS. Tel: 05 53 65 61 00  The exceptionally friendly proprietor and his chef worked in one of the famous Parisian hotels in time past and they have brought an attention to service and quality of food to this lovely roadside inn.  From Monday to Friday lunchtime it's usually full with an eclectic mix of workers from the nearby factory to owners of the neighbouring chateaux  when they serve a 5 course meal with local wine and coffe for 12 Euros per head.  It's simple food that is well cooked and delicious. Sunday lunchtime is completely different - this is the day of the Menu Gastronomique which always starts with some form of foie gras, followed by a fish course, meat course then dessert.   This is considerably more expensive at 32 Euros per head without wine but the meal is of a quality that would cost more than double that in a city.  On a Sunday it's usually always booked weeks and weeks in advance but i guess that during this time of recession it might now be easier to get a table.  Although there is a roadside terrace virtually everyone chooses to eat inside in the large white stone dining room where heavy oak beams help soak up the noise of family and friends dining ensemble.  A truly French eating experience and such excellent value from Monday to Friday.  The restaurant is open every except Saturday for LUNCH only.
  8. Well done Ron you are on the ball.  I just heard the article on the BBC Midlands news and went to post it but you're more efficient than me!  I'm not altogether surprised about this though as they actually cancelled quite a few flights on this route at the end of this summer season and having been taken over I thought something would go.  It's a great shame as it was the most convenient route for me from Shropshire to the Gers.  I actually flew with Ryanair for the first time ever last month from Birmingham to Biarritz and apart from an hour delay on the aircraft because they couldn't tally the number of people on board (a faulty clicker counter was to blame) they weren't too bad but it's just a bit too far away for us.  Let's hope that someone else will take on Birmingham - Bordeaux in time for next year.  In the meantime there is no news of this on the BMI website and the timetable shows flights to Bordeaux for Summer 2009.  It's so nice of them to be so informative!
  9. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.  She does have a Mastercard which hopefully will work, the problem is if it doesn't because I just wouldn't trust any of the hire cars with declaring just how much fuel they actually used to put in, aside from the ridiculous cost of it. Yes it is the Easyjet flight Ron but I'm a week out as it's next Sunday she will be travelling - oops! [8-)]
  10. Hi Our daughter will be returning a hire car to Toulouse Blagnac on a Sunday evening and will need to refuel it when all the petrol stations are closed.  She will be coming from the direction of Auch where this only one 24 hour station en route in the new Super U. Does anyone know if she can use a British credit card there  or is there somewhere else that she could find easily near to Blagnac? Many thanks [:)]
  11. It's on the main campus.  The road system from the airport terminus leads you around the houses a bit so you're better off turning left at the last roundabout before the airport (there is a hotel on the corner of the turning) and then after about 100 yards turn right.  It is well signposted from that roundabout though so it shouldn't be a problem.  It's called Parking 4 and/or eco parking. Take a look at the map on the Bordeaux airport website http://www.bordeaux.aeroport.fr/aeroport_de_bordeaux.Asp?lang=en&rub=3&mapage=guide_accueil_en
  12. The car park is for everyone to use but if you book a charter flight through an agency you can get a special deal on the price of parking, but only charter flights not scheduled/low cost.  The normal cost is 30 Euros per week which is cheaper than turn up cost at all UK airports and is in fact cheaper than most of the pre book rates too.
  13. Sorry I meant direct flights to the SW of France - I don't think that Flybe's flight from Manchester down to Southampton and then change on to the Bergerac flight is much of an option really.  It's possible to fly anywhere from anywhere if you're prepared to take a day doing it.
  14. Yes it is good news although the sting in the tail is that BMI has yet again cancelled all flights to Bordeaux from Birmingham and Manchester throughout the winter.  The situation is the same as last year with there being no flights to the SW of France from any airport north of Bristol or Luton.  Not only that but BMI pulled out of the BHX to Bordeaux flights earlier than was scheduled by cancelling all their October flights.  Mine was cancelled and they refunded the money minus the credit card booking fee - nice!  I feel sure that one of the low costs will disappear soon with the economic climate as it is and wouldn't be surprised if it were BMI Baby.
  15. Hi I spent many hours searching for off airport parking at Bordeaux and there don't appear to be any car parks.  Since searching the airport opened its own long stay car park which is excellent.  We use it all the time leaving our car there for 3-4 weeks and it works out at 30 Euros per week.  The shuttle comes about every 10 minutes and it's a short ride to the terminal.  It's not a bad price either if you compare it to the main UK airports as this is the rate for those that just turn up on the day so it's cheaper than the UK
