  2. Oscar Wilde: Football Quote Football is all very well as a game for rough girls, but is hardly suitable for delicate boys.[;-)]
  3. Monika, have PM'd you.  Thanks.[:)]
  4. Being the football virgin that I am, is this what is known as "hand ball"?[;-)]
  5. Thanks all.  Have just returned from the Vendee where they have those lovely tiles.  Saw some nice Gladiators too[;-)].    I'm not sure they would be up to the Norman weather though, as Miki said.  The tiles that is, not the Gladiators. These tiles sit at the end of the roof and are shaped to hang over the gable end at a right angle.  The bottom half looks like an ordinary tile but the further up the tile you go it slopes in to allow the next tile to sit on top.  Probably the best way to show you would be for me to take a photo and post it on here but I wouldn't know where to start.[:'(]
  6. Does anyone have any experience of roof tiles as opposed to slate.  We are having tiles and the roof is all but finished but it looks to me as though they have tried to save some money and not used enough.  The reason I think this is that they are shaped in such a way as to allow the next tile to slide underneath and sit on a ridge but they are not.  They are sitting at least two inches above this and it looks odd. Any ideas anyone?[:)]
  7. No dramatic departures here I'm afraid.  I don't scare that easily.  Better luck next time. Large Raspberry coming your way[:P]  That felt good - really.................................childish![:-))]

  9. Actually Miki!! I did not say "the French should have won".  I said I didn't feel the Italians deserved the win.  And I happily admitted my lack of knowledge of the game and so to an "outsider" it didn't seem like a good game of football.  I would have been happy to see either side win had it been a nicer game.  The children were all for France and were upset that they lost.                                                                                                                                                                              But I was forgetting myself - I forgot that your opinion is the only opinion[Www].  Now bowing low in humble apology for daring to speak[:-))]  I  for one am glad that I can listen to the opinion of another without  laughing or ridiculing them. [:P] Bye Miki
  10. I'm with you on this one Twinkle.  As much as the violence should not be tolerated neither should the verbal abuse.  It should be dealt with severely.  Youngsters are heavily influenced by the behaviour of "heroes" and the behaviour of all the other celebrities they see day to day on the television.  Children must be able to see for themselves that there are consequences to bad behaviour regardless of how famous you are.  We censor a great deal of the childrens viewing.  There was a time when television was safe prior to 9pm but no longer.  The other thing that really disgusted me about the footie was the amount of time they spent spitting and clearing their nasel passages all over the pitch.  I'm glad I am not a big enough fan to want to watch footie all through the season[+o(].  I do think the Italians played badly and didn't deserve the win.  There were an awful lot of Italian hands on the shoulders of the French players as they were going for the ball.  Not something that stood out with the French players against the Italians.  Disappointing game all round really.[:(]

Actually, I thought it was a good way of getting my posts up to 200 without having to strain the grey matter.  There, I did it.  The kids are now on their hols (since last Friday) and I will need every ounce of help to keep them occupied and my sanity in place, for the next two months!!![:P]

  19. Have shown mum the picture and she says no.  The body was dark brown, the whole head red and the wing had a single straight flash of yellow on the outer edge.  The white spots started at the shoulder.  They had the beak of an insect eater and were looking under the tiles on the roof as though searching for insects.[:)]
  20. I think Chris may be able to help with this one.  Mum is visiting at the moment and just before she came away (from the UK) she noticed 3 birds in the garden that she has never seen before.  They were brown, about sparrow size with sharp pointed beaks (like a robin).  They had a bright yellow flash down the outside edge of their wings, maroon colour on their head and six distinctive white spots down their back.  Quite sleek looking. Any ideas anyone? Thanks[:)]
  21. We have four young hens in with eight Guinea Pigs in  a large run.  So far they have not bothered each other at all.  The chickens are able to come in and out of the pen during the day.  This way they are not together all the time.  They have separate bedding arrangements.[:)]
  22. On the other hand, if you  have a nice French neighbour they will probably be only too happy to oblige.  [+o(]
  23. That was so nice - Hope you are feeling better very soon[:D]
  24. We may have found a pony - yippee! Not what we were originally looking at buying but she seems lovely all the same.  She will probably be a companion to a larger pony (when we find one) but as she can be ridden then the younger members of the family will get a look in as well.  What I need is the name of a good vet near St Hillaire(50) who can give her a thorough check over before we commit to buy.  She seems to have a lovely nature but I am not that experienced and although nothing was obviously wrong with her, it is possible for an untrained eye to miss something.  Can anyone help?  I don't want to get it wrong - that would not be good for us and definately would not be good for the pony.  Thanks all.[:D]
