  1. Does anyone have any experience of renting an office in the St Brieuc area?  We are currently based in England but have a house in the Quintin region that we are thinking  of relocating to.  However, we would need to rent an office with high speed internet connection, ideally in St Brieuc.  Do we go to an immobilier?  Also do they have serviced offices in France and if so what is the French word for them? Any info gratefully received....
  2. I can't comment on oil fired Agas but you are right than they don't sell them in France.  The best bet would be to go to a local Aga supplier and chat to them about your needs.  Aga France has a good website with all the local suppliers.  Gas fired Agas are the cheapest to run, but if you are not on mains gas then bottled is expensive.  The other option is an electric Aga.  We bought an electric run Aga last year as we are not on mains gas and it has been brilliant for us in Brittany. I would not do without it. I think, from memory, that it can be converted in future to oil but I am not positive.  Aga are very good at answering queries of this kind. On another note our Aga has been a magnet for all tradepeople coming through the house.  The man who installed our woodburning stove couldn't keep his eyes off it and I had to show how it worked, was constructed etc,
  3. Can anyone help us on this?  We have a granite village house in Brittany and renovations are complete upstairs and getting there on the ground floor.  We have got to the stage of thinking about flooring and are having downstairs tiled.  We were going to carpet the upstairs bedrooms and landing but both our builder and our neighbours have advised us not to have carpets, saying wooden flooring is better - I think because of damp. The floorboards aren't in a fantastic condition so this would mean laying wooden flooring but really I wanted carpets as this will make the house more cosy in winter.  There is a local carpet shop in St Brieuc so people do buy carpets in the area.  Does anyone have experience of this issue.  I suppose I can ask in the carpet shop but they will probably be keen to sell me a carpet and my builder is keen to lay the wooden flooring! Any independent advice welcome - do carpets get damp in granite houses?
  4. With renovations on our house nearing completion (well upstairs at least) we are now looking to carpet our bedrooms.  Can anyone recommend a good and reasonable carpet shop in the St Brieuc/Quintin area, hopefully who would be able fit the carpets also.

    snakes

We have just returned from our new house in North Brittany which we are renovating, including hacking through a derelict garden. Our neighbour warned us he had seen a "viper" in the long grass recently. Does anyone know what variety this is likely to have been? In particular is it likely to be poisonous. My mother who is coming to stay shortly is terrified of snakes after nearly picking one up when she was young We spent most of the week-end mowing down the grass in an attempt to move it on. Does anyone have any other suggestions. I don't want to kill it, just move it on......
