  3. Hi Tricia We came when our daughters were 16 & 14, the 16 year old went to school here for a year, just to learn French and now does her A levels in the UK staying with family.  If she stayed in France she would be in a class of kids 3 years younger, as you can't start your bac until your french is good enough, so you go back a year and maybe repeat a year too.  Can your son not stay with his dad in the UK?  Also the way they teach here is very boring, not as interesting as the UK.  Your 10 year old will be fine. hope all goes well Sarah
  4. Hope your cat is doing OK, we use a vet in Miramont now, as he is very good and so much cheaper than the one in Eymet.   Penin Didier, 394 av Marcel Cerdan, Miramont  Tel 05 53 89 62 09 good luck Sarah www.thelimetree.org
  5. Thanks for that web site Claire, it's very good. Sarah   www.thelimetree.org
  6. Hi I have friends with a 2 up, 2 down town house in Eymet(24) who want someone for a long let. It has a small courtyard.  It would be  450 Euros  a month plus utilities. Sarah www.thelimetree.org
  7. The school my girls go to has been great, helping all the English kids there (about 10), it has even given them different work from the French kids for their English, as of course they find the ordinary lessons too easy.  They also have extra French. good luck with the move Sarah www.thelimetree.org
  8. I know of a unfurnished 2 up 2 down village house with a very small garden in Eymet (24) which is going to be available soon for long term rents, and of a furnished 3 bedroom apartment no garden. They may not be what you are looking for but keep them in mind as you may find it hard to find a furnished place for a long term rent, as most are gites. good luck Sarah www.thelimetree.org

  11. We came here last year and my eldest daughter had just finished her GCSE's(she got an A in French). She had to go into year 3, which is the last year of college before going on to lycee, 2 years below the year she would be in the English system.  We had planned for her to stay in the French system for a year to learn french and to be part of our new life here and now she has gone to the UK to do her A levels.  She is at a UK state school and lives with family there.  It is not ideal, but she comes home every holiday. Her french after her year here was still not good enough to go on to do her Bac, so she would have had to do that year again, which would not be fair to her. Good luck with you move and email me if you want to know any more Sarah www.thelimetree.org

  14. I know a lot of parents who want to come and live in France must read this section.  I thought I would post this to give a bit of encouragement to anyone wanting to make the jump to live in France with teenagers.  My daughters first year at school is over, they are 14 and 17.  The 1st 2 terms were hard leaning the French especially over the winter months, but now they are doing really well in all their subjects, getting average score in the the class.  The school has been great, helping all the English kids there( about 15), it has even given them different lessons from the French kids for their English, as of course they find the ordinary lessons too easy.  Their social life is a bit different to what they have been used too, but they have made lots of friends now and over the year it has got busier, with parties etc.  Hope this has helped anyone wanting to come to this very beautiful country to live Sarah www.thelimetree.org

  17. Two lonely anglers, based near the bastide town of Eymet, looking for fellow anglers who are interested in forming an association/club. Not a serious thing - just looking for fellow anglers, particularly interested in exploring carp fishing in rivers, with a view to sharing trips and obviously meeting for a drink or two in a convenient bar! Essential for membership - a sense of fun, keen to share info, like a laugh, need a break from "her indoors", fond of the odd tipple or two!! regards Pete www.thelimetree.org

  20. We bought our daughters here last year at the same stage as your children.  My elder daughter has just completed a year in French school and in September she is going to do her A levels at a sixth form college in the UK and will stay with family. She is very fluent in French now, so it has not been a wasted year for her.  My other daughter went back a year, which is not unusual in French Schools and will carry on to do the Bac.  In their first year they are both above average in the class, which is really great. hope all goes well with you Sarah www.thelimetree.org

  23. Hi We came to France to live last summer, my daughters are 14 and 17 years old.  They have been great and just got on with school life.  They now speak good French and are above average in their year group, doesn't say much for the French kids.  It was a bit tough in the winter somedays getting them off to school, as we had lived 7 years in Dubai, they didn't like the dark and cold mornings.  Don't be put off by some of the other replies, most of them aren't speaking from experience. One thing my daughter says, in a non horrible way, you need to quite bright as it is much easier to pick up. Good luck, Sarah
