  1. I am sorry if I have offended people, but this was not the intention. I  am trying to ask for help to be legal. (I was too upset with the response to answer last night) I do not want to be illegal, that was the whole point of this posting. I have read all the articles I can find, but can not seem to get the answers I need. I want to declare the work we get and pay taxes, etc., to be part of the system. We are hopeing to make this a permanent move, but there seems to be no benefit being 'self employed' so, is there any information on how to declare earnings, i.e. setting up a business etc I dont know how things work, which is why I am asking this forum, we have enough money for a year to get settled, but the health / doctors etc side of things seems to be a mystery, or at least to me. How do we get cover? We just want to move and get into the system correctly. Any work we get we would declare, or is it not that simple?
  2. we are moving to france in march. neither our cat or dog has had booster jabs. neither has had the rabies jab. I am reading conflicting things as to how we should proceed. It would seem we do not need the animal passport as we are not intending at this stage, to return. (at least for a year or two if things go wrong) So, what do we need to do to our poor little animals to get them to the land of sunshine? (I did a search on all forums, using the word PETS, it bought up numbers 1 - 10, but then when I press for next page, nothing happens. I keep getting this problem) many thanks, Bev
  3. We are moving to france in march, hopefully, and should have enough money for a year, as an emergency. We have found some work, all be it on the black, as im told its called. In six months we will receive some more money to enable us to do the gite ready for renting. During this time, we work on the black or live off the bank account, how do we cover our selves for doctors, hospitals, pensions etc? I have been told to use the E111, by english that are living in france, and to 'just dont worry, it will all work out' also, that for the first two years, we are covered under the english social security system??? and to continue to pay into the english systen to cover our pensions. I am concerened that every thing  I have now read, just seems to be confusing as to the right way of doing things. please help, we also have a little girl who will be six. thanks. Bev
  4. thank you for this, also, you said hired transport., we are in nottingham and looking to hire a van, luton size, but can not find a company that will let you take it out of the country? My partner has a clean HGV licence, so no worries there. Any ideas? Once again, many thanks, Bev
  5. help, I have read that if you drive your self over to france, you need a transfer of residency, from your local council or several other options,? for customs to verify why you are moving your own 'second hand' furniture, If you have new goods, you are supposed to have the new receipts for these, to show you have paid tax in the country of origin. I also know of people, just moving there goods, and it does not seem to be an issue. Does anyone know which way this should be done, as I would not like to be faced with the french customs, and good heavans, not the right paper work!!! many thanks, Bev
  6. hi, I have tried to reply to the person above, but my original posting has gone and it wont let me e-mail you, just to say, many thanks for your help, you make it seem simple! Do the mayors speak english?
  7. I am starting to think that being self employed is not the answer, as it would be here. If you are then out of work, nothing is paid, and the tax to pay into the system appears to be quite high. I did find a thread on this topic, but it got lost in a debate on socialism, which I do not understand... Does any body know if you can join the social security / health system by paying volentary as you can in the UK. We would like to join the system so as to have proper cover for illness, times  of un employment, hospitals etc Or am I looking at this totally wrong? If any one knows the answer, please help, thanks, Bev
  8. May I say, many thanks to Penny, as above message, but all the links shown only lead to  pages that are not available. People are being so help full,  it is really refreshing. If any one else has any ideas, I look forward to seeing them, Many thanks, Bev
  9. I am sure that this has been covered some where, but I am new to the forum, and can't seem to make the search work, Could any one please tell me which items we can take with us to france, and which ones will have to be replaced. fridge/freezer,  microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, washing machine, iron, TV, DVD, Video, many thanks for all your help, Bev
  10. I think that some where, this will have been asked before, but I can not find anything, We are moving to france in march, and i have spent hours and hours searching the internet to try to find what we need to do. Is there not just a simple list some where, i.e. which paper work we need, who we have to notify, what papers are needed or need to be translated, how and when we need to do these things, insurances, costs, this applies to the UK and France. I am so confused, we have a six year old as well, and it is becoming very scary, instead of the future we hoped for I am becoming very worried. Can any one please help, Many thanks, Bev
  11. we are moving to france in march, and have (hopefully) enough finance to see us through the first year,(ish) while we set up a gite. However, we have been offered work, general things like gardening, house clearance, cleaning, labouring. We would like to be legal whilst doing this. Can my partner be self employed? and will this help us to join the french social security system, health care, etc. we also have a daughter who will be six by the time we move, so we really are going to try to make it a permanent move, we really are in the dark as to how any of this works. I have read that there has to be a minimum income for self employed, but I have read that much, I am confused. we need to have some form of income to support the bank account for as long as possible as things will be really tight. Any help will be most gratefully received, many thanks, Bev
  12. Hi Beani First off, sit down with a nice cuppa and relax.. ok? It is NOT as complicated as some would make out... I enrolled both my girls in about 10 minutes and its really not hard. ...my daughter is will be six in the January.  Likely she will be in Grande Maternelle, the last year in the first of the 3 'cycles' of primary school. She will be with the little ones and will be socialising and learning how to write her name, etc. They start learning to read in CP, Cours Prepatoire, the first year of the Second cycle of Primary, which will come for her next September. So if she is in UK Reception or year one now she will be ahead of the kids because she will understand what reading is all about. The cycles are flexible and she will likely get extra help with the French language. ...'livret de famille' im told I need this, what is it, where do I get it from? YOU and your daughter will NOT have a livret, it is only given to French families at birth. Birth Certificate and your daughter's passport will be fine, most likely, ask at the Mayor's office. ...'certificat d' inscription' help - again...This is sometimes needed, sometimes not. Go into the Mairie with proof of residence, EDF bill or your dossier from the Notaire (By the way... The Mairie is the Mayor's office, the building, in other words... the Maire is the Mayor. Thats the difference.) ...Im told we need to see the 'marie' Is this the mayor? They give out the certificates. Ours just smiled and sent us around directly to the school. ...I have just read about insurance, what is it for and approx how much does it cost? You can get this directly from the school, usually at reduced cost, you can shop around the first week, just ask at the school. ...I have read that you should apply before the june for the following year? what does this mean? We applied in June for this September, this is necessary so they know numbers, how many teachers to employ etc. Just let the school know as soon as YOU know. ...Also, my daughter has had her up to date jabs, all except the MMR, is this a problem? It might be, yes. You might be able to get a French Doctor to write a waiver, then you won't need it. Don't forget, you also need the Tuberculosis jab, required here in France, unless you have afore-mentioned waiver. I would like to kindly suggest you carefully assess the money situation, France is NOT cheap. Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Kind regards, keep the faith
