1. Possibly too late now but here goes anyway;drill through the redbrick pots with a suitable masonary drill(be careful with the hammer action) in the exact place you need to place your items.Span the nearest pair of joists over the holes with the required length of 6cmX8cm or similar, extend the ceiling holes through these wooden supports then connect your fans etc. with threaded bar/nuts/washers of the required guage. They won't fall down!
2. I  am travelling from Pau to Bristol on the 21st May and need to park up for one week there. Has anyone any idea of the charges likely to be levied.
3. Could not agree more with the Plymouth comment.I arrived there for the first time in 30 months recently and the top end of Union Street still looks just as run down as when I frequented it in the Royal Marines in the 60's(looking for the library of course).Unfortunately it didn't get much better when I got to Torbay, sad, run-down and in need of a serious injection of cash, culture and enthusiasm; not necessarily in that order. Can't imagine why I moved here to France in the first place but the pain of it is that I now have to move back and I'm not looking forward to it one little bit!!
4. I am still in the process of finalising things but should be returning from Bristol to the Gers (Dept 32) with an empty Mercedes 814 Luton at the end of March (Easter and after). It takes the contents of a double garage c28 cu.metres or 4000kilos.Would welcome load within reasonable distance either end to defray costs.Feel free to PM me.Rog.
5. As a first for me I will shortly be fitting one of these in a town house on mains drainage.Any advice/warnings would be greatfully received. Can I also tap in to the out going line for wastes from other bathroom fittings without fear of sewage waste backing up into other sanitory ware?I have already gleaned that going cheap is a no no.
6. Thanks Aly, I'll certainly look into that.I fear I might have a bigger problem though as some 20 rads have been de-mounted and moved around the house by multi tradesmen for the last 5 months.Oh dear![Www]
7. Thanks for your input Gluestick. The rads generally seem in very good condition and I do not think they are that old.It is their form of connnection that interests me as I have never seen their like before and I gather from your post they are push fitted together with some sort of sealing gasket for water integrity. The leaks appear to be coming only from the joints and it is very easy to non-pressure test by just standing rad on its side and pouring water in!When it hits the duff level it just streams out.I also take your point that if the Ali surrounding the joint is also suspect then the whole process is mute and its off to the scrapper with them!!
8.   I am  presently helping a friend renovate a villa that he has purchased in the Gers.On attempting to refill the Central heating system we find that several of the radiators are leaking; not just dripping but pouring out. They are made of Aluminium panels some 100mm wide of differing heights which are then connected to give the required length, they therefore have a join at both the top and the bottom of each panel. It is my suspicion that they were left filled during the several years that the property was left empty and as all the pipe grid is the standard braised thick wall copper pipe they were the weakest link when a freeze-up came. My questions are these: How are the panels joined and can these joins be repaired?

House loan

Thanks both for your input and Anton , I had not thought of going back and doing it that way.....not sure that Madam would like to be here on her own though..We have 3 dogs 5 cats and a cockatoo and whilst we have numerous offers of accomodation from friends and relatives  it cannot, with the best will in the world, include Noahs Arc!! And thats the catch, no sale here, no cash to purchase there and I think no landlord would accept the menagerie if I tried to rent. You can probably start to understand my nightmare. Rog
10. Thanks for your time and trouble Dave. Rog
11. My home here in the Gers has been on the market now for nearly two years with some close calls but no final sale, to say money is tight now is an understatement. We own the house outright; value c£300,000.Is there any way I can borrow money using the house as collateral and paying back what is owing only when the house sells. We have a very limited monthly income from a gite let semi-permanenlty to the french so monthly payments would be impossible. The sad thing is in UK everybody and his brother would be throwing money at you with this value of asset, but with interest rates in France as they are it does not appear to work that way here.My first call was my bank (Caisse D'Epargne) and they could not have been less interested because we are moving back to UK.
12. Opel Fruit....what a very knowledgable and helpful guy you are and also gifted with the ability to explain things in an understandable fashion! To join french 16mm to british 15mm I use a french 16mm compression fitting; on tightening the 15mm  side the 15mm olive protrudes around 2/3 mm out of the backnut but a simple wipe of solder sorts that.I make up short tails like this then go to Screwfix Speedfit (I wish to god Screwfix delivered here ; they are French owned after all!)But once again many thanks, your post is more than helpful and unselfish. Rog
13. Thanks for that Warren......my problem is that I am helping someone convert an outbuilding to a Gite. Within this unit (it was a cow byre) there is a concrete floor with a slurry channel leading to a holding tank (some 18 cu metres) which is below a concrete floor of the proposed Kitchen.Channel and tank are comparitively modern but I am advising my friend to try and tap-in to the new fosse system already connected to the main house (only about 6 metres away.) I have deep reservations in having a fosse below a kitchen floor, however well shielded it is and if there is a regulation vis-a-vis close proximity then it would scotch that idea once and for all.If it is allowable then I will have to resort to plan 'b'.........I'm thinking on plan 'b' as we speak. Rog
14. Is there an official minimum  distance from a habitable dwelling that a fosse can be installed?
15.
For reasons that I am not prepared to go into I have to abandon my dream and return to the UK! When I arrived here some 4 years ago I brought all my animals on a ONE way trip and they have no Pet pas...
Thankyou everybody for your invaluable advice once again, even if the house sells soon it would appear I am in for a long wait! I fear after that period I will not then be able to visit this site too often as it will bring back too many wonderful memories sadly missed. As you can realise I am being pushed into this move very much against my will............ Eh bien, c'est la vie! Onward and upward. Rogs
16. For reasons that I am not prepared to go into I have to abandon my dream and return to the UK! When I arrived here some 4 years ago I brought all my animals on a ONE way trip and they have no Pet passports to effect their return. My question is this; What do I have to do to effect said return? The animals in question are as follows (UK denotes origionally exported from UK); 1 Dog (UK)  +  2 Dogs (acquired here) 2 Cats (UK) + 3 Cats  (acquired here) 1 Parrot (UK) Lastly an estimate from the local vet for the raibies jab regime for one dog is c250 euros can this be true?????? As always your help will be greatfully appreciated. PS I am the artist formally known as 'rogs' i.e. 'Moving to the GERS etc' but as I have been unable to log on with my origional details I am now 'newbie' rog!  PPS Please no home spun wisdom with the benefit of hindsight.
