  1. Been searching this forum, with little success, for any information regarding electic underfloor heating. We want to install the matting in our bathroom only about (8m2), before we renovate. My 2 questions are: 1. Does anyone one know any Bricos which supply the Matts, or do we need to import from UK.? 2.Has anyone used this company http://www.warmupfrance.fr/fr-le-concept.phtml, and are they any good? The concept still seems relatively unknown here in france, I hope there are no funny building reg's!! Thanks for any imput.
  2. All up and running in about 10 days, about 2mb connection speed. Another 36 hours for free phone to work.Free took over landline charges within a couple of days. Quality seems perfect, on both phone lines. Not too complicated.  Only complaint, is too many wires, but will try and cut those with wifi.  No tv, as non degroupee, but i knew that before- they do send you the remote control though, which could bode well for the future. All in all very happy. The ethernet connection means you are constantly logged on, when computer is running, so no log in screens. web mail seems excellent, and in english if you want it, no spam as yet!!!. The customer service web site is also much more user friendly than orange, very easy to moniter call charges, and change personal details etc. Box did freeze, when the free phone line was initiated, but after studying manual, gave it a reboot.(on and off 5 times). now works fine. I'm converted. should save me 40 euros a month on phone charges, and another 15 when I ditch french tel.
  3. Thanks Diemos, the 5900 is all inclusive. I imagine the insert must be 2400 euro, as the credit impot is 1200. (50% this year). the installer reckons it's 3 days work. so I imagine, with all the extras: flue, building supplies etc, he is probably quoting about 2500 for labour. We live in quite an expensive town in the alps, hence prices are slightly inflated too. Trouble is around here, there's lots of cash in hand work, by non professional's, and this guy seems very reputable and specialises in chimneys.
  4. Hi. Just got a quote for installation of  a Bodart and Gonay scope 745 insert wirh turbos. The quote was about double what we expected, but includes demolishing old chimney hood and repositioning the insert with a new hood. The guy seems very informed, and has reccomended this as our best option for our 1st floor appartment in a chalet. We should get back 1200 euro tax rebate if he installs the insert from his shop. My question is. Does this sound a fair price? We were originally interested in a stove, but he reccomended the foyer instead, as our appartment is quite cold throughout ( electric Heating ), and the tubos should provide a better heat circulation.  I don't know much about this Belgium company, but their website looks promising, and they export to many countries. Has anyone had one of their inserts? Are you happy with it?.      http://www.b-g.be/uk/foyers/catalogue/in-fire/scope-745.html Thanks for any advice.
  5. Thanks for all the input. finally got the ball rolling. Actually went for the non degroupee option, in the end (not free box only). So will keep my FT subscription for time being.  Theres still a box to tick later on in the sign up, that appears to route call charges from FT to free. So going for that. I Want to check it all works, before ditching the landline. I imagine it must be easy to do to this at a later stage. ( But this is France) so who knows. Went for inscription on line, not by post. You still have to print 2 copies of their automated prelevement authorisation, sign, and send 1 to your bank and the other to free. Finally respond to cofirmation email, give them your telephone number, and free then do the neccessary changes with fr tel. Just calculated a 10 min call from land line with free, is half that of onetel.  Sent my cancelattion letters to orange and Onetel. (registered). Incidently onetel needs 1 months notice, or else they charge you 2.5 euros a month for not using there services.( so much for no contract!!!)  fingers crossed, in 3 weeks all will work well.
  6. I agree with you in principle. "Free box" only implies just that. So why for that option does it say "economise on french telecom subscription for this option,      and for the "free box non degroupee"option it says conservez i.e keep your fr tel abonnement. it does'nt make sense, it's almost as if they have mismatched the descriptions, and caused me hours of confusion in the process.  this is my sign up page:     Merci de lire attentivement les informations qui suivent avant de continuer votre procédure d'inscription L'offre Freebox vous permet de vous connecter à Internet de façon illimitée via les technologies ADSL. 7. Thankyou for the clarification. Finally feel confident about the process. Will sign up today, and see what happens. Initially in this topic, there seems to be some dispute about the following: Freebox non dégroupé Vous conservez l'abonnement France Télécom • En zone non dégroupée, débit jusqu'à 10 Mbit/s en réception et 1 Mbit/s en émission • Service Téléphonie OR Freebox Only Economisez l'abonnement France Télécom • En zone non dégroupée, débit jusqu'à 10 Mbit/s en réception et 1 Mbit/s en émission • Service Téléphonie • Portabilité du numéro géographique incluse pour continuer à recevoir sur votre ligne Freebox les appels vers votre ancien numéro To me the phrase " Economisez l'abonnement france telecom" implies  no more FT line rental, so am going to go for Freebox only option. Hope this is correct, i will let you know.
  8. sadly non degroupee area, but the offers still appear with Neuf, club internet, and free, to take over the line rental from FT. I imagine they rent the line from FT, and you pay this within the 30 euro tarrif. Calls other than free internet calls, ie from landline, are then charged by free etc. do you think this is correct? still confused
  9. Just about to sign up with free, and i'm just as confused about which offer, "freebox only", or "non degroupee." Really want to scap FTel, but would like to keep our phone number. Is this possible with free?  and which offer terminates Fr Tel. thanks
  10. Many thanks fo all your replies, I will definately check out the Marie. We have not yet purchased the burner, but have done a lot of research, and know what we want. " verte, double combustion, self cleaning glass ,8-10kw,etc. One of the problems we have, is that  we want to demolish the old chimney hood, presently in the corner of the room, and make a feature of the wood burner, positioning it a couple of feet away, along a central wall, with the flue running into the existing chimney. We hope this will give a much more efficient heat output, for our "cold" appartment. Unfortunately, there are so many varibles, that we do not want to demolish the existing hood, until we have had some sound advice from an expert. There are a lot of tradesmen in our area, mainly Brits, but i would rather get someone with specific knowledge of chimneys, and stoves.
  11. We have been trying for a few months now  to find a professional to install a woodburner into our existing chimney , but with little success. We want all the relevent paperwork for tax and insurance reasons.  No one seems very keen on doing the work. except an overly expensive outlet selling only canadian stoves. We are quite happy with the Godin models displayed in the local  bricos. I have asked in the Bricos for contacts, but when i telephone and ask them to do me a quote, they seem totally disinterested. If anyone else has overcome this problem and can offer advive, it would be  much appreciated. We live in Haute Savoire 74.
  12. cheers for replies, plenty of forests in Haute Savoie, but mainly pine. Will do a little research, and ask for seasoned wood, and see what happens.
  13. Thanks for replies. I see your point Deimos, I do use skype too, but the wife uses phone alot, to call UK and Ireland, and onetel bills have been upto 60 euros a month. I also find the quality of skype questionable at times, particularly when calling mobiles. If another isp, allows free quality calls to europe, this is a big saving, and i imagine the computer doesn't need to be switched on unlike skype. I have heard fairly positive things about "free" too. And some packages they and other ISP's are offering could potentially save around 50euros a month. I feel this is worth the risk, even if there may be(like wanadoo) a few teething problems initially.
  14. sorry guys, must stop talking techie nonsense. can you still buy tinned spam? haven't seen it for years.
  15. We are waiting to get a woodburner installed in our fireplace. Realistically it's not going to be in place before january. Is it easy to buy ready to burn wood relatively cheaply, or have we missed the boat for this winter?
