1. I asked this question in August and got several helpful replies.  Try typing 'scrap' into the advanced search and make sure that it only searches in the 'Vehicle' section (sorry if you've already tried this, but I took a while to realise that you have to be careful which section you search in!). This link should take you to my question and one of the replies http://www.livingfrance.com/instantforum/shwmessage.aspx?forumid=14&messageid=1658, a search should find the other replies. Good luck Jan (whose Seat has now been taken back to the UK by a mechanic friend and is now longer my responsibility I'm pleased to say)

The system we were shown has 2 options: it either simply heats up water for domestic use and stores it in a tank, or can do that plus top up a heating system too that uses some other fuel to provide the additional heating.  He said that it would work fine in conjunction with oil-fired central heating. By chance we were speaking to another artisan about the state of our roof, and he had some information about photo-voltaic roof tiles.  He wouldn't leave the leaflet as it was his only one, but the website address is: www.imerys-rooftiles.com Someone else recommended us to look at www.solartwin.com for information. 3. We visited our local GITEM today (Eymoutiers, 87) as we'd been told they were running a promotion on solar panels.  We've come away with a leaflet on the De Dietrich systems, an appointment for the guy to come and have a look and do an 'etude' in a few days time, and more importantly, the information that a grant is available of about 1700€ for an installation in the Limousin.  According to the chart we were shown, different regions attract different amounts of aid.  Will let you know how we get on if you're interested. 4.
"needed a licence to serve drinks, obtainable from the marie I think that ties in with advice given on this site" It may be the case in your departement but here in 50 they didn't even know that you...
We also had to get our licence from the Douanes (87) but ended up going back twice because the douanes insisted the licence was in Richard's name.  When we took it to the chambre de commerce, along with all the other bits of paper you need to register the business, we were told to get another licence in my name!  The chambre de commerce wanted to regsiter the enterprise in the name of the person who spoke the best French and of course, the licence had to match the other paper work.  Find out for your area so you don't have to make two visits! Sorry - haven't got the hang of this board yet and have managed to put the wrong quote in!  Meant to quote Coco's comment about going to the douane for the licence. Jan
5. Sainsburys were still selling a similar product when we left the UK in April (purple box, with scented purple bags not unlike those for putting disposable nappies in), and I will be stocking up for our B & B when we go back to the UK in September. HAve yet to track down anything similar here, despite avidly reading the labelling on any I may see in the ladies loo! Jan
6. We brought our old UK registered Seat Toledo to France to keep us going until we bought a LHD vehicle. The road fund licence runs out at the end of the month and, as we no longer need 2 cars and the car has a leak in its power steering, we want to dispose of it. If anyone needs free parts for a Toledo, or would like it, let us know - we're near Eymoutiers (87). We'd appreciate advice about how to scrap a vehicle properly in France. Do we have to hand over the registration documents as we need them to return to the DVLA, scrapping it officially in the UK too. Thanks
7. We had exactly this problem when we moved to France a couple of months ago - see your Inbox to see which UK broker helped us resolve it. Jan
8. In the UK you can buy these from Brake Brothers, so you might try Brake France. Jan & Richard
9. We moved to Ste Anne St Priest, which is only just down the road from you, on 19 April and are still wading through boxes of stuff, trying to find what we need! We're living here permanently and would be pleased to share a cuppa or something stronger when you arrive. Jan & Richard
10. I know this has been covered to some extent already, but we'd be grateful for some advice and information from someone who actually managed to bring shotguns into France. My husband has just been given the family heirloom 12 bore and .410 shotguns, both now registered in his name and on his UK shotgun licence. Thames Valley Police have also added the guns to a European Firearms Pass. We asked TVP if they knew how we should take them into France and they suggested we contact the dti, which we did. They told us we needed an import licence from a French police station and we duly sent the sellers of our house down to Eymoutiers to find out for us. They knew nothing but eventually discovered that we needed to speak to the Douanes in Paris! A conversation with the Douanes tested my French - after all, school doesn't prepare you for a conversation about import licences for firearms. By the end of my telephonic trip around the building I knew that to apply for a licence we must be domiciled in France, which we will be in 3 weeks and that my husband must belong to a shooting or hunting club. Has anyone had a simpler experience than this, or been told something else? Thanks. Jan
