1. If you want non-murdoch, amaerican bias, have a look at al jazeera new on sky.
2. Lucky b*ggers. Been so dry here, still need to go out twice a week to water the plants and pick the odd chilli pepper and tomato, thats still firm. A little water would not go amiss. Would be a good test of the new anti-flood measures.
3.

Read an overview of France according to France's 'national psychiatrist'. It may or may not confirm your own view of what's ailing this great nation. http://news.independent.co.uk/europe/article2054656.ece
I agree with the bit that the French should "get out" more, met lots of people who just never go to another country. It would explain why, when [some] hear a foreign accent, their eyes screw up and their face contorts. Almost like they are eating a lemon. It drives me nuts. You can tell that they're the ones that never go anywhere.[blink] Georgina
LOL Most of the people I know in Aude have never been to Paris. Last year a couple near planned to go and they grilled us in the local café on what to expect in Paris. Funny thing living here is that so few people take an annual holiday. Maybe to odd weekend in winter into the Pyrenees for skiing, or to Andorra of Spain to a booze/Cig run, but as a day trip.
4. Biker in the whole are the same here, I'm one lol (Ducati 1098s) but we sometimes get hog riders around our way who are real tw*ts. All Brando wannabes, who are over 50 and over weight. A real pain. The English hog fans are far less rude ( if not less gay looking lol). Never been stopped on a bike in France, but have been stopped loads of times in a car. ODD!!!!!
5. You find things sent via La Poste slip past cumtoms, because La Poste will not be pushed around but DHL/FedEx et all are not in the same position and have to bow the the powers that be. So there's a good chance your Amazon parcel will slip through the net, so to speak.
6. The whole premise of speed cameras is to have them in accident black spots, to hide them is to hide the danger zone from motorists. OR IS IT TO MAKE MONEY
7. Kelkoo is a price comparision site, so will show results from lots of stores and Tridome is the D.I.Y. arm of Carrefour, I think.
8. I remember seeing some in tridome a while ago for 20€. Do a search on kelko.fr for a wider range.
9. "Sims are a bunch of really stimulating games that work the old brain cells over. Not at all like the intellectually vapid shoot-'em up stuff" Is that a dig a G.W.Bush ???????? Buy a PS2, I have one to sell lol, given that my PS3 will be in a week or so :)
10. Hiya All. I've just add a video page to my BLOG. It contains some movies from my travels around France. I have another 15 (Paris at Night, Le Mans, Menton, Nice) or so to add and will be uploading, one a week from now on. MY MOVIE COLLECTION PAGE http://the-world-in-focus.com/blog/?page_id=1058 MY BLOG http://the-world-in-focus.com/blog/ Regards, RICH p.s. If any one can makes these hyperlinks, that would be great.
11. You could try using http://www.cashette.com which is an e-mail account that collects your mail from upto 5 other accounts (I think). Seems to work well for me, and best of all it is free. Oh and if anyone gets any (419) scams, esp in French pass them on to me, so I can add them to the e-mail scams section of my website. Cheers
12. We were T & T'ed about at 7pm this evening. Seems to be getting more popular. Last year we had about 6 kid's, the year before that about 4 and this year about 15 ( the entire under 10 population). Good thing we got a jumbo bag of mixed sweets from Carrefour.
13. Funny, I always drive with side lights on. Never an issue here in Aude with other local drivers, but out of department drivers often flash me. I must admit I hate drivers who use there fog lights. I can say I've only used them a few times in my years of driving. Most times they are not needed.
14. An news item from yahoo! "One in five Britons would prefer to have been born French thanks to the "Thierry Factor", according to a new report. British residents are said to have been charmed by the rise of French celebrities such as Arsenal footballer Thierry Henry in the UK. The love of French culture was revealed after more than 1,000 people were asked for their views on Europe, as part of the French Wines Week Report. More than a third of British people (37 per cent) would like to move to France in retirement, while only 30 per cent would like to remain in the UK. And overall, a staggering 32 per cent of Britons under the age of 50 said they would prefer to live in France, while only 23 per cent chose the UK as the ideal dwelling place. Italy and Spain were the joint third most popular European destinations, with both countries gaining 19 per cent of the votes. Experts think our fascination with France has grown steadily over the past decade thanks to the more relaxed way of life and the stylish celebrities. Nick Wall, editor of France magazine, said the "Thierry Factor" was a major influence in how Britons viewed the French. Films such as The Da Vinci Code, starring Audrey Tautou and Jean Reno, as well as Russell Crowe's A Good Year, are said to have had an impact on the way we regard the country. The report, which polled 1,010 adults across the UK this summer, showed Brits seemed to be more aware of French cultural and historic icons than their own ones. While 93 per cent of British people could name the Eiffel Tower, only 83 per cent could identify Blackpool's equivalent. And more people could name Paris' Arc de Triomphe (69 per cent) than London's Marble Arch (40 per cent)."
15. ....well, soonish. I remebmer that when I had it in England there needed to be an ADSL filter thing (??) plugged into the phone socket first. Is it the same for France. Cheers, Richard
16. We purchased an Orange PAYG phone here a few years ago and it was unlocked and we got all 4 of our U.K. phones unlocked without issue. Now I just buy an unlocked phone from a French website, when I want a new phone. ANY one want to buy a sim card lol. I have about 20 of them from all over the world.
17. We had dealings with a Didier Savard (not 100% sure of last name) in Sigean. We used him in an inforaml way, and found him of great service. He does renovations of old property. His office is opp CA du Midi
18. I get over 10 of these each week ( I post them on my website) and even get scams in French and German now and them. Now and again when the mood takes me ( boring week on T.V.) I reply and play with them for a while.
19. It's a bit of a drive for a day out. If you are used to mountain roads and are a confident overtaker you could make the round trip in about 10 hours I would think. It is a great drive, if you do it use the toll tunnels much faster.
20. Ask for a bankers draft, better than cash. Yep the cumtoms laws a funny, they once asked us if the contents of our car and effects was worth over 7000 euros, whilst saying they liked my watch, which cost which a fair bit lol, when I gave him a rough idea of the content value (well over 7000€) he just shrugged.
21. Toulouse is on the Border, so to speak. Cross the Garonne and you are in SW France. Weather wise Es is warmer but at this time of year a good chance of very heavy given.
22. Your local Canal sat guy will be able to set your dish up for you. Ours did, at a good price and you get peace of mind, and not some English cowboy
23. Detectors are NOT banned in France any longer and in fact the camera locations have always been posted in the motoring press and on French websites.
24. I have come across: He keeps his money in his socks.i.e. to far to reach and if andwhen he does, he stinks (is moody), for weeks.
