  1. they arent that expensive and fine up until about 2 years of age if he's likely to be visiting a fair bit, try the local trocs they often have them second hand, all the hyper markets have them,
  2. we've had a hydro bath for 4 years now and never had any problems with blockages, if the jets havent been used for a while we do get a bit of a whiff when we start it up but then it disappears
  3. congratulations to you all :O) Did you need your vocab *grin* enjoy the calm of the next few days and wait for the storm of new parents and baby at home...
  4. u dont get a huge amount of help during the stay tbh, first day they bath the baby and I was shown how to do a nappy once ! never handled a baby before so was a bit of  a struggle, then the next day they help you to bath the baby, but we found each time a different nurse showed us a different way so we were always very nervous, they are good about breastfeeding or even bottle feeding but its very much your own your own. Definitely contact the PMI, mine didnt contact me with my ds as he was an august baby and they were on holiday, so I contacted them in week 2, they offer free check ups, the jabs etc etc, very helpful and also babycentre parents in france forum, theres a lot of us with different experiences and help to offer, plus a good place to chat :O) let us see the piccies after the birth :O) hth Pippa
  5. we're finalising our barn purchase tomorrow, it had a CU but for that it doesnt need any fosse checks,  I completed my PDC paperwork and our architect stamped it, we didn't need to have the fosse survey done for it but had to have marked on the plan where we planned for the Fosse and sand filter to go, The mairie also made sure we had applied for the survey but we had our pdc rushed through in a month and so haven't had time for the survey yet which will now be sometime next week, we're also planning on installing the fosse ourselves. hth
  6. When are you due ??? the hypermarkets often have baby fayre weeks and things are on promotion.  I found france much cheaper than uk for baby stuff and shopped in the hypermarkets for all of mine and two children later the stuff is still going strong...
  7. We've got the plans done anyway and the architect has seen them, I just wont send them in with the PDC, seems a bit peculiar to me that they aren't at all bothered by dimensions of windows and such like.
  8. I've spoken to our architect who said for the pdc he needs to stamp the plans, which include existing floor plans and then the new floor plans (with window and door dimensions), when I went to the mairie to have some help completing the PDC paperwork she said you don't need any floor plans or dimensions with the new PDC and it's more a case of pictorial aspects than actual dimensions, I queried this again as it seems a bit peculiar but on checking the PDC notes it seems she was correct, but is the pcmi2 plan de masse des constructions a edifier the floor plan bit like the architect thinks or is it the cadastral plan enlarged up with the building to be altered like the mairie thinks. (she did show me a passed application for a new build house and that didn't have floor plans on) Thanks in advance
  9. Hi Im trying to price our renovation of a grange, I realise as it's a total renovation we'll be charged 19.6% TVA but will we get the credit d'impots on anything ?? reading through I don't think we will on insulation, certain heating but am I right in that we would from heat pumps or solar heating ? Also, if we finish the grange and wait two years (is it 2 years from the h1 form) I take it we'd be entitled then if the credit is still going, I'm contemplating a wood pellet boiler but if we're not going to get the 50% off then i'd rather put oil in and wait two years to install the pellet one ?? thanks in advance
  10. My dh thought he should have bike parts for the birth of our daughter !
  11. Hi And firstly Congrats ! I've got a 6 month old little girl so this time last year was just pregnant, Firstly, dont know if u know but babycentre has a parents in france forum which is very active and informative :O) and moses baskets, we had a discussion a few weeks ago about them, personally I bought one from troc when I had my DS 4 years ago, this time I didn't even use it, and with DS I only tended to use it downstairs and he went straight into a cot, they are usually in one for about 8 weeks so please please please don't go spending lots, theres alot more fun and interesting baby things to spend your money on :O) Try Carrefour (I know they had them) and auchan, cora,  aubert if your into spending lots, (i'm not) and trocs or Ebay had loads the other week. hth Pippa
  12. Any one have any idea on architect costs just to rubber stamp our plans ?
  13. Yup bad news :O( Thanks for that the mairie assured me it was inside measurements
  14. Hi I'm hoping someone can help me, for the 170m2 architect limit for the pdc is it calculated on the inside of the main outside walls from one side of the house to the other or is it finished room m2 sizes.  I'm trying to draw plans out and i'm only just under the 170m2 limit but if it's finished room sizes (incl plasterboard thicknesses and the battening) then i'm well under. Do they include all the rooms including halls/corridors in the calculations Thanks in advance for any replys
  15. We've got underfloor water fed heating in our house with concrete floors with tiles downstairs and wooden floors upstairs.  We got our system specd foc by wirsbo in uk (uponor now its called) and bought it through plumbase in the uk who kindly let us have some of the trade discount.  My DH installed it all himself, our house is about 80m2 and was fairly easy installation, cant remember how much the underfloor alone cost as we had it backed up with solar panels.  (Although the solars aren't efficient enough to run the hot water in our house and the heating in the winter so we have huge electric bills and are now installing an oil boiler) We're contemplating a huge barn renovation project which will be about 140 downstairs and eventually 140 upstairs but we're going underfloor downstairs (wirsbo rough estimate under £3000) we'll get a water cylinder and gas boiler and tank here and we're more inclined for radiators upstairs, we do like the underfloor upstairs but as we have wood coverings it doesnt heat up as much as downstairs and I like radiators to dry clothes on. DH wants underfloor on both levels but im hoping to persuade him, we'll have a woodburner for ambiance and for the cooler spring/autumn evenings. hth
  16. Please help, I'm trying to calculate the best structure for our business, am I right in thinking :- Dividends are taxed at 27% but no cotisations (are  there any social charges for this ??) and are dividends from UK also taxed at 27% or is this calculated into our personal tax allowance and then split into the number of parts ? thanks in advance
  17. Will have a word with my DH, we're in indre, right on the border of 23 and 87 so he might know of somewhere for you.
  18. My DH was talking about getting it booked ready today so i'll give him the link, he always camps so ill give him a shove thanks very much
  19. Hi Id be interested too, have found one in limoges but am waiting for him to get back to me
  20. We went to the prefecture yesterday with CDS that run out early december, requested the tds for 20 years and was told oh no u dont need one, i'd gone prepared with the print out from the .gouv website and said we want one of these anyway and then was told, oh no after the 5 year one its then a 10 year one, I repeated I wanted a tds PERMANENT !!!! and she went away and looked on her computer.  10 mins later came back with her boss and said we need to apply via the mairie, 3 photos, copy of passport, old cds and an attestation by the mairie to say we have lived in france for 5 years without a break of more than 3 months in any 1 year period and an edf or habitation bill to our address in last 3 months. No need for tax forms for them !!! I explained why we needed it and she said that the info on the computer hasn't changed yet to tell them why people need one but that it shouldnt be a problem to get it. Off to mairie later today hth someone Pippa
  21. The CPAM of L'indre know of the 6 month rule but until they get it in writing from their head office they cannot act on it in  individual cases, is what their saying.  My parents have been in France for 6 years this december and their Carte de sejours run out in December.  They moved initially on a 2 year E106 and have had the rest of the time covered by CMU and completed their tax returns and paid their 8% Its very frustrating that they've done all of this above board and declared their incomes properly and still are being clobbered. Their wishing their life away until my Dad reaches 65 and can get his E121 Life's a b***h and then you die  (let's hope after E121's and my mum is of pensionable age too)
  22. None of this is valid until the local CPAM's have been told of the decision and can act on it, see my post on breaking news for my parents personal situation. http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/15/1037993/ShowPost.aspx#1037993
  23. My parent's CV ran out on 30/9 so with fear and trepidation I phoned the CPAM yesterday to ask where the attestation was.  They phoned back today and asked, is your father retired ?? Oh yes   And is he retired in his own country ? errr No he's not 65 yet In that case, under the new rules we will not be renewing your father's cover. However during the telephone conversation it appears :- They know of the 6 month rule but haven't had it communicated to them from the head office of CPAM and so cannot act on it.  They also know of something changing with the 5 year rule but also cannot act on it. If you sign on you will not be covered by CMU If you start work VIA  cheques d'emploi once you have worked your 60 hours you will be covered If You go back to uk and work, get a new e106 and return you'd be covered as long as you are in receipt of an E106 or E121. They will not write confirmation that they are not renewing at this time as they have not been told to get the CV's returned and she said at the moment the CV's are not blocked but she told me to get looking for private health care and as soon as the 6 month rule is communicated to them she'd get in touch.  I think i'll phone next week and hope that the wheels are in motion for the 6 month rule being applied to the local CPAMS by then. Any other ideas who we should contact with our unfortunate experience.
  24. My husband and I have spent alot of time discussing this as we have 1 child of 3 here in school and am about to have another within the next month and so it is very concerning, more especially as DH is diabetic that we only have 6 months left of our healthcare.  Private isn't really a realistic option with kids and DH's illness plus the cost would be very frightening compared with our 8% contributions atm.   We do not want to go back to the uk permanently and as *youngsters* of 32 and 36 have many working years left.  As far as I can see we have some options although limited due to our french, we're in rural france and get by but I'm sure with the unemployment levels here we aren't going to be employed as there are plenty of young french people who would get the roles first and tbh quite rightly so, it's their country they should be first in line for the jobs.  If we went back to the uk, worked and paid our NI contributions for 2 years and then came back to france with a workers e106 (we previously had a workers e106 for 4 years and each year DH worked in the uk) and which meant that DH would have to work in the uk each year to maintain our workers e106 until we managed to get jobs in france would this be acceptable under the new rules. Or I or DH could get work helping people in their homes with the internet or me cleaning or babysitting under the Cheques d'emploi system which I understand gives you a CV straight away although no other benefits (sickness, maternity, pensions) until you have been working 60 hours a month, but how many hours would we need to work to get the CV alone, ??? Or register as a business and pay our cotisations although the timing with me about to give birth couldn't be much worse but  will probably be the long term answer Or if this 5 year rule comes into force we will have been here 5 years in January and our CDS's expire then and we might still be able to pay our 8% although I can't see how this will work in reality. It's all very stressful and even though the reasons we came to france (for a better life for our children and for me to be a stay at home mum during their early years) are still very important to us, may become less of a reality in the near future because of the health situation.
  25. Do you think that if you ie find work via the cheques d'emploi system as a cleaner for say 5 hours a week,  that it is likely to be classed as *employment* as you pay the cotisations on what you earn (however little it may be) and they'll allow you into the cmu, or if you go on the dole and are quite happy to look for work but struggle due to language and skills issues, surely you'll be covered then as RMI gives you cmu.
