  1. If you have a brushcutter/strimmer use the the metal wheel with the four blades, don't forget the goggles, and it zips through the stems, then you need a wife to drag it away and put it on the bonfire. If you use the secateur method try cutting the top and bottom off plastic empty litre water bottles then slip your hands through them that stops the b*****s attacking your arms. I don't personally like Roundup although it is not as viscious as some chemicals.
  2. LAST EDITED ON 26-Jan-04 AT 07:17 PM (GMT) >Does anyone know if there is >a need for Artexer's in >France. Artexing is like Leylandii if you,ve got it or them you wish you hadn,t. PS. in my opinion
  3. >One more pervert off the streets >for good anyhow. And a cynics view. As with all maggots there's more to take his place until he gets out in a few years time to have another go.
  4. There is a small circuit just outside Mayenne on the road to Ernee its on the right as you go through a forest its called Circuit Forget. Sorry I couldn't get the accent to work over the E of Forget. I went there last season and watched some Rally Cross, its quite a good little circuit and has a variety of different forms of racing I believe. There is also a Moto Cross track at Ernee at which they held a World Championship round earlier this year. If I may be allowed a claim to "fame" I once raced? in the same heat as Chris Vincent at Lydden back in the sixties and, he never lapped me. If you don't know, Chris Vincent was one of a very few world class bike-sidecar racers in the sixties who was not able to use a BMW engine as they were only supplied to german racers. Sorry to go on but bike racing is a particular favourite of mine.
  5. I think I met Saddam, it was years ago as I was walking up Exhibition Rd. South Kensington. I offered to carry his carrier bags stuffed with newspapers. I'm sure it was him only then he swore in english.
  6. >Every evening at about 22h15 (when >the tempo creuse kicks in)the >fuse box starts making manic >clicking sounds. It continues until >we go to bed - >possibly all night, who knows? When we first moved here we also had a "clicking" fuse box (I had another name for it). In our case the fuse box was in a prominent position in the sitting room so we had to turn the TV sound up to drown the noise which turned my wife and I into sounding like those 2 old men in the Muppets who used to shout at each other. We asked EDF to remove the pre-war meter and supply a new one which they have fitted just inside the front door which apparently they can "read" from the outside wall. PS. My wife and I have still retained the habit of shouting at each other. Is it our age?
  7. I found by chance an internet site which appears to give technical advice on a variety of things including lime washing. If it is any help to you it is WWW.OLDHOUSESTORE.CO.UK
  8. In my sitting room downstairs the ceiling has the usual exposed upstairs floor joists, the floor upstairs is Oak Parquet T&G fixed directly to the joists. I plan to fix battening to the insides of the joists and across from joist to joist to form a sort of ladder effect and then to fix pine T&G to form a ceiling. Has anybody any thoughts on the best form of soundproofing/insulation between the Parquet upstairs and the downstairs ceiling, or will the noise from footsteps still transmit down through the joists? My best thoughts are to fix the glass fibre sort with the brown paper backing that comes in various widths. All alternative suggestions gratefully considered.
  9. When I converted our "upstairs" I was advised by my local tradesman not to use plasterboard with the polystrene backing because the mice think its fantastic for nesting. I also found that the polystyrene makes a hell of a mess both when you cut it and later when bits come off and find their way out of little gaps. I used what looks like tin foil with bubble wrap inside it, it is double skin and really effective both for reflecting the heat back to the slates and for insulating. I bought mine from Bricogitte, it comes in rolls and although easy to fit is quite expensive. I just stapled it to the battens and plasterboarded over the top. I am sorry I don't recall the name of the product but I am sure I have seen reference to it elswhere on this site. I must add that I am in no way an expert as most of the jobs I have done and am still doing I have never done before and here I take my hat off to all builders....you really earn your money.
