  1. Val, Since then then they've been bought by Allianz.  If I know Allianz (and for my sins and my pension I hope to continue working for them for the next 5 years, 8 months, 28 days and counting!) they will have stopped this - anything to save money! Peter
  2. Has Tess been rescued yet? 10 weeks ago we adopted an 8 year old Staffie, and I can honestly say it's the best thing we've ever done (including buying our beloved cottage in Picardie).  I have had lovely dogs before, but Kimba is something else again.  We keep telling her that middle-aged ladies should behave with a little decorum and she pants happily in agreement as she blunders into yet another bush after her ball. We received her passport a couple of weeks ago, and are now impatiently waiting until February when we can introduce her to our French village and the inhabitants.  Our elder daughter is, very thoughtlessly, expecting her first baby in the same month, so I keep telling her to hurry up and get it over with, so our journey won't be delayed any longer than necessary!! If only we could live in France permanently, Tess would be welcome to join our family like a shot.  Sadly, this cannot be for some time to come. Please let us know the outcome. Jane
  3. Just to add my ha'porth, I have to agree with Cassis, and would heartily recommend Thierry Marcq.  He specialises in all personal lines insurance for UK and ex-pat customers, and is very helpful indeed. The fact that I work for the same Group in the UK has no bearing on my recommendation - I don't even get a Group discount! Peter
  4. Yes, we have one, and it makes great sausages. The recipe pamphlet that comes with it is limited, to say the least, but a bit of imagination works wonders. I agree about the laughing "a deux" - they looked very........well, strange....... to start with! Peter
  5. Whatever my thoughts on the rest of each party's policies, I can never forgive Brown.  Having based all my plans for retirement on pensions calculated under the system that had existed certainly since I really started thinking about them (like most people of my generation well after I had hit my thirties), I was devastated when one of his first actions was to change the rules.  Now our dream of retiring to our cottage in Picardy in eight years' time looks like receding, maybe for up to another five years. Billy Liar and Burglar Brown can whistle for my vote! Peter
  6. Thanks, Outcast. Having just heard that the chimney of our house in 80 came down in the storms and that we probably won't have a cheering log fire when we go out for Christmas we really feel heartened to hear your good news!
