  1. We have now lived in France since January 2005, having received a Tax Fonciere the year before, when we lived in the Channel islands and our french house was then a holiday home. Each year  since we have lived in France we have received a Tax d'habitation and no Tax Fonciere,  even though we made an enquiry last year at the local Tresor  to see if we were supposed to  have  a bill for Tax Fonciere. The lady looked on the computer and said no it wasn't neceessary. We thought as the tax office have us down with our French address and know we are resident here,  they would automatically  know to send us a bill for the Tax Fonciere with the Tax d'habitation. Anyone have any ideas? Ann 33
  2. Hi, Does anyone know how the system works with recovering payments for helth care? We are registered with CPAM and have a Carte Vitale, and private "Top Up " insurance. It seems inspite of all of these things we we have already paid for, to try and make things easier. We are still paying out and trying to claim back for Dr's fees  (as our Dr has not got a machine for the carte vitale) and prescritions, ( which are supposed to be covered by our "Top Up" cover) and don't understand why.Can anyone explain exactly what they have to do? Thanks Ann33
  3. Hi, We're not sure really. Either a small subsidy for planting something such as trees, or hedges etc, or even set aside. But then as you said, you probably have to be registered as a farmer. We have two fields, and were trying to think of a way to utlise them for something useful. (we are not part of a farm, but the land is attached to our garden) Thanks for trying to help. Ann 33
  4. Hi, Does anyone know if there is a grant available under the "Common agricultural Policy", for making use of land of a hectare or more in size? Thanks Ann33
  5. Thank you for your reply. We are not 100% computer literate,so not sure what you mean. the old computer is aDell Dimension 4100, which is connecting to Wanadoo with a Extense Haut Debit ADSL Version 6.3.1 Sagem F@st 800 USB modem. The new computer is a Dell Dimension 3100c. The problem is the new computer won't let us install the connexion kit. as does not mention the Sagem F@st  modem . It says " The installshield engine (internel.exe) could not be launched. No suchinterface supported." We have in the meantime connected the old computer and we have a connection. Uncertain what to do. Will try the Dell support helpline on Monday here in France, but not sure if they can give advice about the server. Thank you for trying to help. Ann 33
  6. Hi, We live in France and have had an English Dell computer connected to Wanadoo as a server for the last 2 years, with a Sagem F@st 800 USB modem. Yesterday we took delivery of a new English Dell computer (as we wanted the programs in English), but it says the modem is not compatible with the new computer and we don't know why. We have tried the Wanadoo. assistance phone line and we keep having long waits for someone to speak and then get cut off! Would like to know if there is anyone in the Dol de Bretagne, Combourg area who has knowledge of sorting out the server here in France and helping us get connected to the server with the new computer? Or if anyone knows of somebody in this area who could help. We are using our old computer in the meanwhile! If anyone has any ideas we would be very grateful. Thanks Ann 33
  7. Thanks Saddie and Sunday Driver for your help. Will pay quickly with fingers crossed!!!!!!!!! Ann33
  8. Hi, My husband has just received notification of a speeding fine. The first form notifies us of the fine and details of speeding. ( Avis de Contravention au Code de la Route)  The second form is titled "Formulaire de Requete en Exconeration".Can anyone tell us if we need to do anything with this second form, as we think it means you only fill it in if you are appealing against the fine? In which case we believe we only go to our local Tresor and pay the fine. We have a French Registered vehicle and have EU british driving liscenses. Do we just have to pay the fine and then see what happens?  Would be grateful for some advice. Thanking you Ann
  9. Hi, I am myself a British Nurse, who worked in the UK in a specialist field. I had to get my qualifications translated by an official translator. They have to show an official stamp on them when they are complete. It is likely you will find the information you need on-line, if you type in "Traductions" in the departmente where you want to practice. You  also need to apply to the Council of Nursing and Midwifery in the UK, for a form, which once completed you  send  back to the NMC with a fee  in order for you to receive from them verification of your UK qualifications ( which you need to show when you try and register in France) once again this information can be found on-line if you go on to  the NMC website Once you are armed with all this paperwork, you need to go to your local DDASS headquaters ( French equivalent to the Dept of Health), usually found in the the yellow pages of the department you intend to work in, and take everything . They then issue you with an ADELI number, which is equivalent to your UK Pin registration number, then you will be entitled to look for work as a registered nurse here. It is quite difficult to find work in some areas, mainly due to high unemployment here, and also if you are not fluent in French they will be reluctant to employ you until your French improves. You need to persevere with writing to everyone. I wrote to many places over many months to get myself known. Have you CV translated as well, and get some advice on the way the French write theirs , as it is slightly different than in the UK. If you apply for a particular job, your letter of application needs to be hand written, they do not want printed letters, as you will be judged on your hand writing. Hope this waffle all makes sense, but it will be worth it in the end. I found all this out by trial and error! Good Luck Ann33
  10. Haven't got a job yet, but have written to a local "clinique" in my area, and will probably approach one or two of the larger hospitals taking my CV and letter with me by hand. Hopefully something will turn up!
  11. Hi, Iam an English specialist nurse who moved to France earlier on this year. The information I have is firstly I don't think you will get a chance to be employed in France as a qualified nurse until your French is quite fluent. In the meantime they may employ you as a "soignant" ( or carer) You need to have an "attestation" from the NMC approximate cost £34 to verify your qualifications are in line with EEC regulations. When you get this you need to find out where your nearest DDASS (French Health dept) is and takethe "attestation" together with your qualifications maybe passport etc. They will then give you a registration number which will allow you to practice as a nurse here.  You may need your qualifications translated into French by a "sworn translator" for any prospective empoyer. When you apply for a job you will need your CV translated into French, along with a handwritten letter of application. Hope this helps. I have been through all of this process now and got my number today!!!! It does take time and patience, but it took me so long because i could not find anyone to show me where to start!!!!! Bon Chance Ann
  12. Hi, I am a Haemodialysis Nurse living in Brittany. At the moment I am going through the process of trying to register as a general nurse in France in order to work. Firstly I got my qualifications translated by a "sworn translator" (necessary for showing to prospective employers) Now I am waiting for a form I need from the NMC  (in England) which is an "attestation" to confirm my qualifications, training and education conform with the EU nursing directives. Then with all these documents to hand I should be able to go to DDASS (French equivalent to Ministry of Health ) to register. Following registration you need to have your CV in French, and if you apply for an actual job, a letter of application hand written. In the beginning I wrote to 4 hospitals which did Haemo, in my area and only received one reply. Apparently they will not be interested in you until all these  formalities are sorted. Not sure if you have already done all the paperwork! Good Luck!!!!!!!! Ann33
  13. Hi, I am a registered nurse from England, with qualifications in the specialised area of Renal Dialysis. I am aware there are dialysis centres nearby. I have been told by an English nurse who has lived and worked in France for the past 14years, that some emplyers won't touch you unless: 1. You ahve a sound knowledge of the French language otherwise you are seen as a risk! 2. You need to have your qualifications translated into French (which I have already done) 3. You have to visit DDASS to get youself on the qualified nurses register here in France. There seems to be some contradictions in what  you need to do. It may be different in other departments. I live in Brittany. Anyway good Luck!!!!!!!!
  14. Hi, Due to take my car for a service. The car needs to have a new "Cam Belt" this year. Does anyone know the word for this in French? Thank You Ann
  15. Hi, I am a registered General nurse, whose specialist field is Renal Dialysis. I moved to France in January of this year, and speak and understand basic French. I have had my professional qualifications translated by a sworn translator. Does anyone know the next step for finding work? Or does anyone know where someone may need nurses in the area? I live between St Malo, Dinan, and Rennes. I am interested in any hospital work at the moment, but later on work in my specialist field. Is it a good idea to present yourself in person at hospitals in the area? Even if I can only work as a support worker to begin with I would be happy to do that, also I don't necessarily have to work in full time employment. Help!! merci beaucoup Ann 33
