  1. Anyone travelling to Brittany from Ireland all the year round? Summer is fine (if expensive) plenty of routes from Dublin, Rosslare and Cork to Cherbourg and Roscoff. Rest of the year what are the choices? Via UK..... lots of driving from Holyhead to the ports. Fly-drive.... Dublin-Stanstead-Dinard then hire a car Any other suggestions from fellow islanders?
  2. Been exploring route from Dublin to Brittany. Not a great number of options especially for weekend trips. What about ferry from to St Malo. Anyone know how long that takes? Their website gives lots of information except length of journey!!!
  3. ANyone been on one of thes programmes? We have been asked to consider getting involved and in return for a few euro let a film crew follow us around looking at houses, talking about them etc They'd bring an architect along to check out the property for us. We'd make our own appointments with local agents. Just wondering if it's worth the hassel.
  4. Thanks for all the info folks, I can't seem to reply on my home computer for some reason. Really looking forward to house hunting and hopefully after easter we'll be on looking for more infor about particular towns and villages we've fallen for. Hope we can at least narrow the search down a bit. Also any more info about how to get from Ireland to France will be very welcome. Anne
  5. Hi Irish eyes Don't get me started on ferry prices. I've booked a trip at Easter , from Cork, we live in Dublin! And for the summer too we're sailing from Rosslare. Both are so expesive. We are planning to buy a house in Brittany this year but getting there in the future gives me the shivers. The ferries are so expensive but flying seems to be out unless you like spending days at Luton, not much use for a long weekend really. At some time in teh future we hope to be able to decamp to Franc for the summer but for the moment I'll certainly be staying here although hubby and kids may be able to go for longer trips So far we've tried Dublin-Cherbourg and that's fine but expensive (1,800 return this summer). It's not a great boat either. How have you guys found it so far?
  6. So I can pick up a pre paid sim card in a supermarket and use that? I'm relucatant to use my Irish one as the roaming charges will cost me a fortune, as well as any agents having to make international calls. I have an old phone, hopefully I'll fit one into that. The only problem is that we won't be contactable on that number once we leave France (or will we, I've no idea) so we may lose contacts. OH well hopefully any estate agents will be keen enough to call us at home.
  7. Hi Planning to visit Brittany to do some house hunting at Easter. We've found in the past that religious celebrations result in everywhere being closed. This likely to be the case the week after Easter? I am assuming that Easter Monday will be a public holiday, any other days in the week?
