1. An accumulator is a large body of water - say 1000L+. Of course, this water can be used for all sorts of things (like washing the cows....)
2.
Nick Your professional input if you can. There are two of us in the house. We each shower once a day. Neither of us stand under a running shower so at a guess we use say, 40 litres of hot water. How many months/years/decades do you estimate it might take to break even? Posed against the environmental impact of heating that water from electricity what would you guess would be the environmental impact of manufacturing the equipment  in the first place. Just another comment not requiring an answer but aren't the jury still out on the cost/benefit of wind farms?
I don't know. Quite a long time. (and that is the best you are going to get without a) giving lots more info and b) paying me!). As I say above, I can't justify the installation of any "eco" energy source on cost alone - it can't be done. There are many other reasons (all of them unselfish) for using them. I really don't want to/won't get into the minutiae of the justification of green systems, I'm afraid - I don't have the time.   Are regards wind farms - what Jury are you referring to? They are a fact of life the world over. I don't think their green credentials are up for debate but, FWIW, I think they are a superb blend of form and function - the ultimate blend, perhaps.
3.
Thanks Nick Trollope, So from Poolguys original post he rekons that the tube array is around 6KW so to work effectively you would need 2 of the tube arrays?
I can't know that. Every installation needs to be specified for the individual circumstances. Couple of other salient points; 14Kw is the amount of energy needed to do what I calculated it needed to do. The occasions when you need to do this will vary, as will the rate of capture of energy. Which is why solar systems are always backed up with electrical. Right or wrong (green or not, etc etc). The only way to get a solar system that works for you, is to have it designed by someone who understands this particular black art. The technology is just too new to be bought "off the shelf".
4.
This is a completely different question. If one has a residence secondaire and a solar system, what happens to the excess heat ? I am not arguing about the economics (which probably don't work out) but practicalities of what happens when the sun is out and nobody is at home for a few weeks. Polite answers please and no squabbling ....
One needs somewhere to dump the heat - an accumulator (or a swimming pool) is usually the best bet. Otherwise the pressure circuit risks "blowing its top" (in basic terms). I wouldn't recommend an undumpable solar system in an MS.
5. I was just in the process of posting a comment about a very small "message" box when posting new messages, when I hit the "compatability" button and the problem was fixed! I also had problems with quotes appearing as raw HTML and not displaying correctly - I'd bet this is fixed, too. So, the forum has a problem with IE8. I'd guess.
6. Having dug through the recesses of my memory, I can tell you this; The energy required to heat 300L of water by 40 degrees is; 4.2Joules / Kg /degree C Which works out to 50,4MJ/300L/40deg or 14KwH I reckon that I can speak as an expert on the subject I am trained in and I don't hide behind psueds... I have long maintaind that you can't justify "eco" systems on price alone. However, we are all responsible for you-know-what, so we must all try to do something "green". Given that water heating is the single largest consumer of energy (during the summer) then solar energy is an appropriate thing to be punting.
7. No, you don't need a pump. 3 Bar is more than enough. What you need checking is the pipe sizing. The French system uses varying pipes sizes, to eliminate these problems.
8. Then forget it - aerothermal heating (even for 35K) is marginal. Consider what Poolguy suggests, or an alternative renewable fuel.
9. I'm reluctant to get embroiled in this (having added my 1.2 new pee to another thread), however; A devis is very much a fixed-price quotation. It cannot be varied, except with the (written, technically) agreement of both parties. A Tribunal would only expect an Artisan to do what was listed on the devis. Dissatisfaction is never seen as a reason to withhold substantial amounts. Unless the Expert was appointed by the Tribunal, his evidence is going to be regarded with suspicion. As I have said before, there are set procedures for all things in France. Fail to follow them at your peril! (And the civil legal system has little to do with EU law, so don't expect a "UK" approach to work).
10. Your renovation is costing about 1000€ per square meter. Not bad. You could get another devis perhaps?
11.

My FS1E could do 80...
Kilometers per hour or miles an hour falling off a cliff? [:D]
They didn't have Km when I had an FS1E. FS1E off cliif has terminal velocity of 'bout 120 (MPH).
12. You have had some replies to this on another thread, but, I'll have a go, too; More useful than photos or threats of Court axction is his devis. How does the work vary from what is listed from that? It is obvious that your system works (after a fashion) and he is entitked to some payment. What that payment is is down to you and him. I'd negotiate. He no more wants to take you to Court than you want him to - no winners there..
13. I bought a couple of pre-hung 63cm doors (used them for loos, although it didn't say that on the box). So, 63cm is OK.
14. Surely, an isolating valve performs a particular function (it isolates) and a gate valve is a particular type of valve, as teapot describes? You could (and indeed, would if the need arose) use a gate valve as an isolation valve, no? You don't need a plumber, you needs a linguist...
15. But they ain't. Been through this several times before, but I have changed quite a few at the behest of the house sale diagnostic people.
16. All heating wiring must be 4 core - you can buy 4 core gaine PF. You must run a cooker circuit (it can be 20A) and a washing machine circuit as a minimum to each property. I believe. I can't find any specific rules on the regs about bedsits, but, if you have a kitchen (rather than it just being a bedroom), then that must conform. Jan 07 .. errr.. RJ45s rather than T telephone connectors?
17.
<What's this about ceiling roses? I have fitted 4 in our place without problems and they are a darned sight more acceptable than the French equivalent of a bit of chocolate block.
Ceiling roses (UK style) are unusable (as in non authorised) because all junction boxes(which is what a ceiling rose is) must only be openable with a "tool" such as a screwdriver. Remember that it is the householders responsibility to ensure that their property conforms to all the regs... IMHO, French "ceiling roses" (DCLs) are much nicer looking/easier to use than the UK style.
18. You can't do a DA until you are 21, can you? So, he must be riding that bike illegally. Then again, my R6 (an early one) didn't produce anything like 133BHP.. Do modern ones? My FS1E could do 80...
19. That is an old Uk law, that doesn't apply any more. In France (like the UK), you must have (a minimum of) 1 door between a loo and a kitchen or none between a loo and a living area. If you wanna do a poo in the middle of your salon, it is fine with me (and the DTUs)...
20. The fact that your experience was not in France, and a "few years ago" should not be a problem (if you can prove it). But, the obvious people to ask are the appropriate "chambre" (agriculture?).
21.
Nick, I willneed an inspection as it will be a new connection. Regarding the GTL and water, the water supply to the washing machine should not compromise the GTL as it would be adjacent to it and separate.
Well, no you can't then. For the reasons I gave above, amongst others. Put it somewhere else. I don't know why the quote doesn't work (it works in preview). I'm sure you understand.
22. Thanks all. Eventually found my copy of FP. Doesn't make me a Web designer, though.
23. In theory, no you can't (no water within a GTL). If you don't need a CONSUEL, who is going to argue?
24. I promised 'er indoors and our Son (9) that I would take them to Paris next Month (and it's been 20 years since I was there). Can anyone recommend a nice (read cheap) hotel or booking website? Looking for something "convenient". TIA! Nick
